What are the Glazers thinking?
At the moment, they have to be thinking they made a mistake sliding Todd Bowles into the head coach position instead of pursuing other options. There’s plenty of time for Bowles to restore the confidence of ownership, but four losses in five games has eroded his credibility with the fan base — and perhaps with his players.
It’s hard to imagine a worse two weeks in Buc history, considering the expectations for this team and the quality of the opponents. Tampa Bay just lost to a pair of floundering franchises armed with backup quarterbacks.
The Bucs never led in either game — and Sunday’s effort was particularly alarming. Carolina owner David Tepper is probably stewing about his team’s 21-3 victory because the Panthers are angling for a top draft pick. (more…)

The frustration kept building inside Rich McKay during the elevator ride down from the owner’s suite.
By the time McKay reached the Atlanta locker room, his anger boiled over as he slammed the door with his game program. Arthur Blank had a look of disbelief after the Bucs held on for a 21-15 triumph against the gritty Falcons.
With a 21-0 advantage after three periods, the Bucs were on their way to a laugher — before things turned serious. Two touchdown drives and a 2-point conversion pass triggered anxiety for Buc Nation — and there was plenty of time left for another Atlanta possession.

The Bucs never stopped ’em. Not really.
The NFL’s No. 1 scoring defense was overwhelmed at the line of scrimmage Sunday evening as the Chiefs gained a small measure of revenge for their lopsided Super Bowl loss in Tampa.
This was not a game to moan about Tampa Bay’s lack of offensive balance. Tampa Bay fell behind early and it soon became evident that Patrick Mahomes and his band of brothers were not to be denied.
The Chiefs came in averaging only 93 yards on the ground, but they passed that total by halftime. Clyde Edwards-Helaire and rookie Isiah Pacheco capitalized on enormous holes as Tampa Bay’s front 7 got their butts kicked from Dale Mabry to Bayshore Boulevard. (more…)

Two pissed-off football teams clash at Raymond James Stadium tonight, each seeking redemption.
The Bucs and the Chiefs have spent the past week lamenting self-inflicted wounds that contributed to setbacks. Tampa Bay lost two fumbles, committed several key penalties and botched a 2-point conversion attempt that could have sent the Green Bay game into overtime.

They played hard, they played physical, but in the end, they didn’t play smart.
Despite a suffocating defensive effort in the final 42 minutes, the Bucs dropped a 14-12 decision to Green Bay. They unleashed a storm of miscues just days before the storm that threatens Tampa Bay.
On the surface, six penalties for 40 yards doesn’t look too bad, particularly when the Packers were flagged eight times for 65 yards. But dig a little deeper and you realize the timing of some of those Buc penalties couldn’t have been much worse.
For instance, how about a too many men on the field flag that nullified a Jamel Dean interception?
How about a holding call against Brandon Walton that wiped out Tom Brady’s 18-yard scramble? And worst of all, how about a delay of the game flag just as Tampa Bay was attempting a potential 2-point conversion that could have sent the game into overtime? (more…)
