Rondé Barber’s former Buc teammates and coaches came out in force during his unforgettable weekend at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Fellow Hall of Famers Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp and John Lynch celebrated with Barber at the Gold Jacket dinner, the enshrinement ceremony and the subsequent party at a posh vineyard. They posed together for pictures and reminisced about an iconic defense now featuring four members honored in Canton.

Mike Tomlin attended the Gold Jacket dinner, along with Raheem Morris, another one of Barber’s position coaches in Tampa. Tony Dungy was everywhere and even 83-year-old Monte Kiffin turned out, despite taking a fall last week. (more…)

Rondé Barber’s enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame brought back vivid memories of a Buc defense that ranks among the best in the NFL’s 103-year history. The last time James Wilder carried the ball for the Buccaneers, the original Batman movie ruled at the box office.

The year was 1989 and Tampa Bay slogged its way to a 5-11 record under Ray Perkins, who would be fired toward the end of the following season. That was a long, long time ago.

How long? Lavonte David was a newborn.

Yet all these years later, Wilder still rules as the franchise’s career rushing leader with 5,957 yards. Wilder was a workhorse in 1984 and 1985, but those were the only two seasons he ran for more than 704 yards. (more…)
