About Joe
Joe is no typical fan blogger. In the real world, the guys writing as “Joe” are career sportswriters. They’ve won writing and reporting awards from the Associated Press Sports Editors, the Florida Press Club and the Florida Press Association, among others.
So big deal; Joe can write. What’s important is Joe’s a crazed Buccaneers fan who lives, breathes and craps football. Joe also has Bucs and NFL media credentials and fantastic sources, and knows more about the team than most.
JoeBucsFan.com delivers daily commentary that makes you laugh, think or throw stuff at your computer. But Joe also breaks news, keeps you informed and provides must-read stuff you won’t find anywhere else. Call it a hybrid blog for the 21st century.
Joe routinely attends Bucs road games, Super Bowl events, the NFL Scouting Combine, the NFL Owners Meetings, the Pro Bowl and more.
The Launch
Since its first post on August 7, 2008, JoeBucsFan.com has enjoyed 70 million+ actual visits to the site and 55,000-plus posts about the Bucs have been published, eclipsing formerly major Bucs media outlets combined in that time period.
The Tampa Bay Business Journal took notice in 2010 and then again in 2011, as JoeBucsFan.com and its family of websites and affiliations emerged as a major force in local sports media. Business Insider even questioned the head of ESPN.com about the popularity of JoeBucsFan.com.
Joe was the heralded weekly of the wildly popular “JoeBucsFan.com Hour” on the top-rated Steve Duemig Show from 2013 through 2017 on WDAE radio, which was the Buccaneers’ flagship station. (May “The Big Dog” rest in peace).
In 2009, CBS-TV sought Joe for reaction to Jon Gruden’s firing. Joe also was a host on the former CBS sports radio property 98.7 FM after its launch in August 2012. And Joe appeared many times with The Fabulous Sports Babe on the former Tampa ESPN Radio affiliate. Joe also shared time with Ozzie the Sports Junkie when he was heard on WTMY-AM 1280 in Sarasota.
JoeBucsFan.com stories were so significant that Joe was interviewed for a news update on “The Howard Stern Show” on SiriusXM radio. Also, Joe’s writings were featured for discussion on the nationally syndicated Jim Rome Show, as well as ESPN’s Rome is Burning. Even the print world has called upon Joe; ESPN The Magazine used Joe as a source for a feature story on former Bucs tight end Kellen Winslow.
In 2010, JoeBucsFan.com created the popular Blackout Tour with a local limo company. The Blackout Tour was featured in the St. Petersburg Times, The Tampa Tribune and on many Tampa Bay and Fort Myers television stations, as well as on NBCSports.com.
Stories on JoeBucsFan.com have been picked up by most national sports sites and quotes from JoeBucsFan.com have appeared in major newspapers around the country and at NFL.com, as well. Joe is proud of breaking many news stories every football season.
Premier Partnerships
In 2010, Joe expanded his partnership with ClearChannel Radio (now iHeart Media) and WDAE-AM 620. Joe also crafted and ran the wildly successful “No Excuses Tour” to Tropicana Field. The No Excuses Tour transported 2,000+ Tampa-area baseball fans to Rays games from 2011-2013, and it was featured on Bay News 9 television. Joe also launched a cross-promotional partnership with WTSP-TV (CBS) in August 2011.
In 2012, JoeBucsFan.com nearly doubled its traffic and emerged as the No. 1 source for Bucs news and commentary. Another record year followed in 2013, and new monthly Internet traffic levels were achieved on JoeBucsFan.com in March 2014. Growth continued and 22 million pages were viewed in 2019 alone.
In October 2015, Joe teamed with Todd Wright, a longtime ESPN Radio voice and well known for his years on Tampa Bay radio, to launch The Todd Wright Tour, a series of unique, fun and affordable golf tournaments in the Tampa Bay area (JoeBucsFan.com/golf). The series has been a stunning success through 30+ events.
Adding “The Sage”
In July of 2016, JoeBucsFan.com added renowned writer Ira Kaufman. He is the only Pro Football Hall of Fame voter representing the Tampa Bay market, and he’s a member of the Hall’s prestigious senior selection committee.
Kaufman pumps out columns and podcasts and all his work is presented by Bill Currie Ford (home of the nationwide lifetime warranty on new and used vehicles). Kaufman is heard on numerous local and national radio shows, and he’s also the Bay area’s only voter for the Associated Press All-Pro teams and their prestigious NFL-wide honors.
The Ira Kaufman Podcast spent more than 400 days on the Google Play Podcast “top charts,” which covered all genres of podcasts nationwide. No other Tampa Bay area podcast has been spotted on the national charts.
Wright Moves
Also in July 2016, JoeBucsFan.com joined forces again with Todd Wright for a twice-weekly fantasy football podcast targeting daily and league players. The fantasy podcast is a huge success and is in its fifth season. Joe also launched and has sold out the Training Camp Express, which transported fans to Bucs practices from Abe’s Place in Clearwater, Fla.
In October 2016, the inaugural “Jason Light Ale,” brewed by Big Top Brewing Company, was launched by JoeBucsFan.com. The beer was named for Bucs general manager Jason Licht, who approved his likeness to be used in marketing the product. Served exclusively at Abe’s Place in Clearwater, the beer sold out during its limited run.
Video Style
Multimedia expansion led to more exclusive JoeBucsFan.com video in 2015, including dispatching a video crew to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii for exclusive interviews.
In April 2017, veteran Tampa Bay sports television broadcaster and sports radio personality Rock Riley joined the JoeBucsFan family. The Lunch With Real Rock Riley was a popular, thrice-weekly feature through the year, and Riley now hosts the Bucs Kickoff podcast.
TAMPA TWO with Buccaneers legend Derrick Brooks and Ira Kaufman launched in 2018. It’s a twice-weekly production by The Identity Tampa Bay and Joe. Its great success brought renewal announcements in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Breaking Records
In 2021, JoeBucsFan.com finally savored the fruit from a proven winner on the field. More than 23 million pages were viewed on the site during the calendar year.
