John Lynch: “I Sense Frustration”

Yesterday, it was ESPN dropping a nasty hatchet job on Greg Schiano.
Today it’s the New York Post. Longtime columnist Mark Cannizzaro is on a mission to call the Bucs idiots for using Darrelle Revis too much in zone. Cannizzaro compares it to scoring a date with Kate Upton and taking her to Wendy’s, among other analogies. (What? Joe would love watching her down a Frosty.)
Cannizzaro calls on Bucs icon John Lynch to help him.
Lynch, who has called four of Tampa Bay’s games this season for FOX, is as perplexed as many other analysts about the way Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano and his staff have been using Revis.
“ ‘Revis Island’ is a caricature, a nickname, but he earned it because that’s what he did under Rex [Ryan, Jets coach], and he did it as well as anyone,” Lynch said. “You go and pay 96 million bucks for Darrelle Revis. When the game is on the line they have to utilize this guy’s skills. After they gave him all that money, use him.
“I would think it would behoove the Buccaneers to say, ‘OK, Darrelle’s got that guy. We’re taking him out of the equation, let’s focus on everybody else.’ ”
That is the way Ryan used Revis with the Jets, turning the cornerback loose on the opposition’s best receiver and making it a 10-on-10 game.
Lynch said he has spoken to Revis.
“I sense frustration,” Lynch said, “but he’s a pro, and he’s not going to cause a stink.”
Interestingly, Cannizzaro goes on to speculate that Revis’ recent detailed explanation of why his knee health prevented him from playing press-man, aka Revis Island, smells fishy. So he thinks Revis is lying? Joe finds zero reason to doubt Revis’ credibility.
These are tough times for the New Schiano Order. Daggers are flying from everywhere. But it will get much worse if the Bucs lose today, and ESPN has a week to promote/batter a winless Bucs team approaching their lone Monday Night Football appearance Nov. 11.

Maybe this is just what the team needs. For Chris Berman to call them the Yucs on national T.V. Then GMC would say to Lovonte and Revis, “This shit stops today!” Just like when Warren said that to Brooks and Lynch. The turn around starts next week. Well one can wish right?

Unfortunately, with a crummy pass rush and very suspect remaining members of the cast, even if Revis plays Island football it may not help much.
Revis is a great player, but its a very open question as to whether he will be worth the trade. A move like that is for a run not to go 0-16. Short shelf life for him and Jackson, which is what makes this disaster even more sickening.
In other contexts Joe might refer to the Revis trade and Jackson pick up as “going all Danny Snyder”. Or “fools gold” by the Glazers.
Cant build through the draft, cant build through free agency. Just can’t build period, not with this group running the show. That is painfully obvious.

No reason for Revis to BS anyone…that’s just not in his nature…but it is in the nature of the press to promote controversy….and yes…Lynch is now part of the press….”it’s in their nature”…..

I actually emailed Sander of Bucs Nation the exact same thing that Darrelle said re health & coverage scheme about 6-7 weeks ago.It makes perfect sense to me. I think Schiano deserves some credit for taking the heat in this matter & deflecting criticism from Revis.
The issue may be moot today as Seattle doesn’t have a true #1 WR.

“I sense” means Revis didn’t express frustration and John is making his own assumptions. John should be careful. He’s starting to develop the same habits as his peers.

It’s not likely and perhaps even unfair to fire a coach that has enough games remaining to turn his season around. If we lose to the Seahawks as I expect we will, then my best guess is that we will get some kind of an announcement following the Monday Night Football game should we lose against the Dolphins. The record would then be 0-9 with no possibility of a winning season.
Just like the Thursday night Carolina game, another day long constant regurgitation of everything that has gone wrong during the Schiano era on all of the major sports networks followed by the nationally-televised embarrassment of another Buc loss will probably be too much humiliation for the Glazers to bear.
However, following the Carolina loss, Rick Stroud reported that after a meeting with the Glazers Schiano appeared to be in unusually good spirits suggesting that the Glazers had given him assurance that he would not be released in mid-season.

Put all the he said she said stuff aside just for a minute. I’ve watched the games and yeah they haven’t been fun, but if you have been watching Revis at all then you would notice that his movements haven’t been as fluid as years before. I said that yesterday when joe posted on Revis. I’m a Tampa fan by nature growing up in south Florida, but have been a Revis fan for awhile. He still didn’t look 100% against Carolina, but getting damn close. So with that said, I don’t buy into “The coach had him say that” category. We all know Revis has never had an issue saying what he felt in the past so why would that change now?

Lynch probably did “sense” frustration….but from what?…..Revis already basically said he was frustrated being 0-7 and he probably is frustrated by not being 100%….
I would be very surprised if you couldn’t sense frustration from every player at this point.

TBBF- I agree with your last post.
If you watch the defense, numerous times we have seen CBs get beat- and looking around for the safety that never took the route deep. I believe Revis plays Zone to protect his knee. But he can still be frustrated that the defensive scheme doesn’t work. I think a lot of the defensive guys are frustrated. You see so many plays, where there seems to confusion about zone responsibilities. Just like the line often seems to miss gap responsibilities.
That shouldn’t happen 8 weeks into the season, unless the scheme is inherently flawed. Which it is. The majority of this team has played together several years. They should be more co-ordinated in their second year with a system. They are actually less co-ordinated than last year.
Because “someone” is injecting new, unsuccessful elements into the defense.
And when Revis has played Man- he looks as good as ever! He is as close as a stitched on shadow!! It’s one of the only joys I have, watching defensive plays.
That, and Glennons pocket composure. The kid has a really patient demeanor in the pocket. He didn’t have that in college.

what a load of crap. Very disappointed in Lynch to join the fracas. Sapp on the other hand, he loves piling on and has no loyalty.
I want Schiano gone next year as much as anyone. But Revis got burned twice with the game on the line. First Fitzgerald with the Bucs up 10-3 and 3 minutes left and, who was it, DeSean Jackson (?). I remember both clearly, and he got burned like Myron Lewis. Obviously he was not himself at that point. And like Joe said, Revis appears to be very forthcoming, I think he is being honest about his knee.

There is too much heat on Schiano, but not enough on Dom and the supporting staff.
-Dom made the move of a 1st and 3rd round pick and 96 million for an unhealthy Revis. I said, he was not going to be 100% and the Bucs should not make this move unless it was 100% clear he was back to his old self. We could have drafted Kenny Vacarro or Star loutelli.
– Dom OVERPAID for Dashon Goldson, whos not even remotely close to being the best Safety in the game.
– Dom drafted S Mark Barron 7th overall who is nothing more than an in the box SS. You could get those in rounds 2-3.
– Dom drafted the likes of Myron Lewis over Alteraun Verner in 2010. Someone who I had very highly and was screaming for. Benn over Tate.
– Failure to move up for the likes of Kerrigan, Quinn, or Watt in 2011 and clearly settled for a 2nd round graded Adrian Clayborn, who is not a pass rusher. More of the greg Spires type, who doesn’t belong in round 1.
– Bowers? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
– Hanging on to lost causes too long. (Freeman, Lewis, Stocker). This made looking at QBs in the likes of Ryan Tanehill and Russell Wilson in 2012 non existant when we had a chance at both. Even TE, with cash strapped and options on the market, we settled for Luke Stocker and Tom Crabtree. Several 3rd WR options available and we settled for Ogeltree who had 1 good game in his 4 year career.
– Hiring Schiano late in the ball game. Ownership was involved but you cannot default Dom either, he was heavily involved in the interview and selection process. No assistants were available and Dom has full control over personal and roster cuts/decisions.
– 2009 FA and draft was a flop.
– Dom overpaid for Koenen, a Punter, who isn’t even the best at his position. Yet, gave him 6 years 20.5 mil.
– Overpaid Black and Joseph. Joseph was always an injury risk, yet gave him top 5 G money.
– Eric Wright? LOLOLOLOLOL. Everyone gave him credit for putting in the suspension clause. Like no other GM does that? haha
– Nicks, regardless of the injury problems, is a bust. Top paid G in the game has yet to even play what, 10 games in 2 years.????
– Failed to build depth on the line both offensively and defensively.
– 24-47?

– David and Martin
– Mike Williams in the 4th round
– Mason Foster in 2011, probably the only good pick that gets resigned from that class.
– McCoy has been good, but I would not say he has lived up to the elite pass rushing threat inside like he was drafted to be. I wouldn’t pay him Geno Atkins money.
– Vincent Jackson

I agree that Schiano is taking all of the heat….not much heat is on Dominick….above him….or Sully….below him….that doesn’t mean that Schiano doesn’t deserve some heat…but he’s taking more than his fair share.
I think most of the real Schiano hate comes from the perception as to how he outed & ousted Freeman.

Looks like Schiano proved right in the Freeman debacle. Many have said that MNF performacne was one of the worst performances by a QB in NFL history.
Also, not saying Schiano doesn’t have his faults, but a lot of the things being blown out of proportion, happens in every single lockerroom in the NFL. People forget, Brady has had multiple blowouts. One with Bill Obrien and one this year. To me, I don’t think it’s fair to pinpoint all blame on Schiano. He was hired way late in the ball game. The media perceives him as this moron. He is far from it. He didn’t leak Freeman’s medical records. The man is not that stupid.

They have tested the waters and it appears MONEY is heavily involved. JOEBUCS could you provide any insight.

Say you move to London and you win home field advantage throughout the playoffs. No one is gonna wanna take that 12 hr flight. Dumbest thing to move a team there. Goodell has no priorities the affects it would have on the nfl players and their families. But yet he claims the players are in his best interests.

Schiano got BLASTED in the media for how Revis was used then comes out a week after the game and THEN says his knee wasn’t good… SUCK IT

Well, I can understand why the Bucs did not use Revis in man to man coverages more because he was not 100%. In fact, I am glad they used him more in zone situations.
