Darrelle Revis Still Not 100 Percent
November 2nd, 2013Bucs fans seemed to have rejoiced this week when they learned All World cornerback Darrelle Revis was going to play more man-to-man defense.
In what Joe believes was the most manufactured story in recent times, fans were all aghast that Bucs commander Greg Schiano was using Revis too much in zone defense. Weeks ago Revis admitted he wasn’t quite fully recovered from his knee surgery last year, so Joe thought this was a no-brainer why he wouldn’t play man defense. Yet Bucs fans fumed hysterically.
Well, word came Thursday from the locker room at One Buc Palace from the very lips of Revis himself; he still isn’t 100 percent, but well enough to play more man defense.
“It’s a process; it’s a process that you’ve got to go through. Sometimes it takes a while, but it’s a process. I’m not all the way there yet, but you’ve got to change your game up and that’s what I had to do,” Revis said. “I’m getting back to myself. The last game I pressed [Panthers wide receiver] Steve Smith every chance I got, so I’m getting there. It’s a process. I just have to keep on strengthening my leg and getting stronger.”
Revis admitted rust more than a lack of stamina kept him from his Revis Island press coverage. Revis felt he needed a specific number of reps playing man-press where he felt comfortable increasing his workload in such a defense.
So now Bucs fans can rest easy at night. Revis, getting healthier, having enough reps to shake off the early-season rust, will play more man-press as the season grows older.

It’s amazing with all the hoopla of the other issues such as the MRSA outbreak, possible HPPA violations, the Schiano-Josh thing etc. that the Revis trade became almost an non issue.

Who cares anymore? Revis will collect 9M$
In meaningless games

Good point, P’c:
All of that negative noise has kept this issue to a dull roar. I like Revis’ game and what he brings when healthy, but as far and away the highest paid Buc…he’s a luxury on team swirling the drain with more holes in the dike than fingers. It is the eqivalent of a 30 year still living at home with Mom ( potentially a large demographic of JBF devotees 🙂 ) buying a new BMW yet not being able to afford rent, utilities, etc. A half a season into the trade…advantage: Jets.

I am sticking with what was said in preseason, That Revis is a good player, But he cannot cover everyone on the field. And then add to that the Bucs has one of the weakest D-line in the NFL.

Something to look forward to….a 100% Revis…

No cornerback is worth what we’re paying this guy. In today’s NFL, teams can spread you out and just pick on the Leonard Johnson’s.

For sure. TBBF. Always figured he just wasnt healthy yet but good to hear it confirmed. Everyone should remember we didnt grab this guy for this season, we did it to lock down 1 side of the field for the next 5 years. This is good news fans, take a break from crying.

Revis not at a100%,The josh thing,The Nicks and Joseph and Crabtree thing. That is why Schiano got a lifeline and is not on the street.
Should he be ? Joes says yes but at seasons end.I think more then injury, piss poor player evaluation and game plan management should jettison this staff after next loss.Evaluate who who got, figure who is a dead weight and who is a keeper and lets hits ground running with a new coach day after season.

I seriously hardly doubt you start playing more press man after 3 days of rest as opposed to a week he would have had the week of the Falcons game… Dude is covering up for his coach… The ENTIRE National Media got on them for it and goes out and does it on a Thursday then defends his coach nearly a week later AFTER the National Media was like SEE Schiano is a dumbass.. Its common sense Joe

@Sir P…..of course…no way he could just be telling the truth. Funny how people with no common sense seem to think they have the market cornered when it comes to reading between the lines.

It’s not just Revis, Banks is playing zone while Revis was on man. Just play press coverage and rush the QB. Hopefully we have a good offensive minded coach next season and our defense will be ready to rock. Without a good offensive coach a team will never score enough points to win in this league. Figure that part out and our defense will be ready to stand it’s ground next season. Gruden would be a sight for sore eyes right now.

@Bobby
So you are saying its more likely they were like “hey I know I’m only on 3 days of rest this week but I should try doing more press man”.. Ya YOU have no common sense… It’s called hes being a leader by sticking by his coach after hes getting slammed by the media dumbass
