Celebrate: Revis To Play More Man
October 29th, 2013To Joe, one of the greatest manufactured controversies in recent times was the constant chirping about whether Bucs stud cornerback Darrelle Revis is playing man-defense or zone defense.
Bucs fans demanded Revis play man defense. Why, that’s what he plays on PlayStation! Well, Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune brings news that will make Bucs fans run into the streets in jubilation. No, Schiano is still coaching. But Schiano has suggested perhaps Revis could be playing more man-to-man defense.
Bucs coach Greg Schiano spent the weekend contemplating personnel and schematic changes on both sides of the ball, and one of the changes he plans to make on defense suggests more man and press coverage work for Revis.
“We need to make sure we’re accentuating our best players, putting them in the best position to make plays better than we have,’’ Schiano said. “That’s something I’ve looked at hard, and I know our coaches have looked at it as well.’’
Now Joe always thought this was a made-up story because Revis wasn’t 100 percent recovered from his knee surgery last offseason. Thus, with Revis not 100 percent, the Bucs used him in zone to protect him. Even Revis himself had hinted he wasn’t fully back to his former self.
The last thing the Bucs needed was to force Revis to play man-to-man just because fans wanted him to play man-to-man, and pop his knee again. What exactly would be the point of doing that?
If Revis is going to play more man coverage, it tells Joe that Revis is closer to being his old self.

Wow, you just now thought about putting our best players in positions to make plays?

Everyone and their brother knew Revis was playing zone most of the time. Schiano and Sheridan denied it on several occasions. The only logical answer is the coaches were protecting him. That would count as one of the only good decisions the coaching staff has made all year.

Closing the barn door after all the horses have escaped.
Nice move, Coach.

Boy oh boy, how in the world this clown made it through after they interviewed him for the HC position is a true mistery…

Yay the obvious way to use Revis will be in effect, hallelujah!!
Now if they work on the D-line we should have something in effect, also giving Johnson and Banks safety help since they get torched every game.
So what another 8 weeks for the next adjustments??

This is why Schiano can’t coach in the NFL. Everyone in the nation has been telling him to do this for weeks and now that our season is over he is “making changes”.

***BREAKING NEWS ON TWITTER***
Greg Schiano says the offense will aim to score touchdowns instead of field goals because they’re worth more points.

What you need to do is play the way the Rams did against Seattle. Except run the ball on the 2 yard line

Well this is exciting!
I wonder if the Glazer meeting had a say in this?

On Thursday, Mike Mayock said Revis told him he wasn’t even close to being 100%. He even said he was surprised by his honesty

Nowhere in those quotes does Schiano say he’s going to play Revis in man more.
And honestly, this is one thing I might agree w Greg on. Revis is NOT the player he was in his prime with the Jets, he’s just compensated like that from our tardbilly GM.
Fire Domenik. On Xmas day while he is opening his Captain Scrappy #1 draft pick action figure, complete with side kick Sabby Barronelli, bad safety extraordinaire.

I love my Bucs….but it pains me to see Revis on a losing team. He is a classy guy and deserves better. Hopefully he is back next year with our new coach.

Revis said his leg was not 100%.
He was talking about regained strength and explosiveness. That takes a couple seasons.
He has made it clear that the leg is fully healed.
I did not play CB. But I called a couple friends who did.
They said press man coverage isn’t any more stressful than Zone. Possibly less, as you are required to make sharper cuts, and drive forward more, in Zone. In man- you just shadow your Reciever. I think the ” zone to protect his hurt leg” myth was started here- by the Shianonites. Who are now probably extinct.
Revis had an early meeting with Schiano- reported on several networks, this meeting was to complain about how he was being used.
Players protecting injuries don’t complain about being protected.
Revis is back to his extraordinary self. When in man coverage- he is the best defensive player in the league. Yes, STILL!
He has played Zone- because Schianos defense is Zone.
He will now play Man- because every intelligent person in the world has pointed out how incredibly Stupid it is, to play Revis in Zone.
And what huge liars Schiano and Sheridan are.
Only because of tremendous public outcry will this change. Not because pasta Nazi got smarter
