May Be A Long Night For Mike Glennon

Joe knows the rest of the season is nothing more than a casting call for Bucs quarterback Mike Glennon. At the end of the season, the Bucs will monitor all of his tape and determine if they should go out and get a veteran quarterback, or take a flyer one of the many good quarterbacks available in the 2014 draft.
(Sadly, Joe asked readers and draftniks recently to do some research on Jimmy Garoppolo, yet no reader apparently has. Joe is surprised.)
Tonight could be a big test for Glennon, writes Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com, if Glennon harbors any thoughts of starting for the Bucs next season.
Pick your antidote: In Glennon’s first three starts, opposing defenses loaded the box to try to stop running back Doug Martin. But Martin is dealing with a shoulder injury now, so the Bucs will also have a rookie at running back: Mike James, who is likely to pick up most of Martin’s workload. That could prompt Carolina to go to a different tactic than Glennon’s previous opponents and focus on stopping the passing game.
Prediction: It’s not hard to envision trouble on the horizon. Glennon is not noted for his mobility, and his offensive line hasn’t been playing very well. Throw in the fact that Carolina has two good defensive ends in Greg Hardy and Charles Johnson, and Glennon could be in for a long night.
It doesn’t look good for Glennon and the Bucs offense tonight. Rookie quarterback and rookie backup running back going against an incredibly strong front-seven from the Stinking Panthers. Yikes.
Joe wonders, since the Bucs will be starting Mike James, whether the Panthers will pass on loading the box like teams have against Doug Martin and, instead, try to confuse, jostle, mock and rob Glennon?

And Btw, the rest of the season is enough of a big test for Glennon! Give the kid a chance! Even though he’s been thrown into the firey pits of schiano hell, he’s looking a whole lot better than that other waste of space we got rid of. If he ends up looking no better than a backup at season’s end, then we’ll know what to do.

I know one thing, its definitely going to be a long night for Bucs fans. Especially the few in the stands that have to deal with the crowds of Panthers fans.

I’m not sure who Mr. Garoppolo is and I really don’t think that we’re in a place now where we can afford to take a flyer on a lower round quarterback and hope it works out. We need a highly touted, highly drafted quarterback who has legitimate skills and can be the boost we need. We’ve tried to strike gold in the lower rounds and it’s never worked. We need to draft a leader with real skills and real potential

this game reminds me of the cowboys saturday nite game on nfl network in the final month of the rah morris. This game like that game will show the world the total faliure and what a joke this staff is. James will run into a brick wall 20 times tonight bc there will be 8 in the box, glennon will be under presure and look bad, and finally revis will play a soft zone and steve smith will get over 100 yds and a few tds.
Should be the final nail in the schiano and sheradin coffin.

I think they can win tonight. All I need to bring to the game is a four leaf clover, a lucky horseshoe, a ladybug and a rabbits foot.
On another note. Just because first round QB’s have panned out from the 2012 draft does not mean the next crop will too. The NFL has seen more first round QB busts then successes. Now that’s not actually a statistical fact that’s just my gut talking. Just saying a first rounder is not a guarantee star.

@Buc1987, exactly…..but what hasnt been busts are O line Tackles, a few over the last 5 or so years, but usually they pan out!

I don’t see the logic and striving for Garoppolo because we are on pace to draft a far higher prospect at QB (Bridgewater et al.) Scheme and coaching can have a big influence on an offense line in my opinion, look at the bears, zone blocking scheme and suddenly they are giving up less sacks, albeit Cutler still got injured, but even McCown was able to step in and play competently. Late round picks are money picks, I’m sure scouting can find guys to plug in.

I’ll reiterate what I have been saying for a couple weeks now, if we lose to the Panthers tonight, the Glazers will fire Schiano tomorrow.

Season ticket holder since day one, been through much misery over the years but I am not giving up on this season just yet….the haters, many of them driven by local media hype of gloom and doom want to pack it in, fire the coach, fire he janitor just fire somebody……….which accomplishes what?
Freeman was a problem, glad he is gone, now lets get behind the team and support them instead of ripping them apart. Like him or not our QB is improving, he needs some help from the “O” line and his receiving corps.

I honestly hope if we do win this game, its the last one. The season is a bust and the priorities should be:
– putting the NFLPA investigation to bed
– settling things with Tynes
– getting rid of MRSA in the facility/players
– healing our star players
– finding a new coach and GM
– maintaining draft position
anything else is futile

You can’t talk sense to some people. To some 1st round picks are the end all be alls of a team. Lol, it’s actually laughable that people wont even give the guy a chance simply because he was a 3rd round pick. How quickly we forgot how our last 1st round pick turned out…. Glennon disserves a shot to prove he sucks atleast, which is something he has NOT done yet. Quite the opposite really. With any help from the offensive line and receivers he would be even better.

Glennon may not suck but he lacks big play ability of some first rounders coming out next year, if they are in a position to take one, how is it logical to pass on him? Best case they trade away the #1 this year and hold out for Winston in 2015, but that’s a hugeeeeee gamble/investment for one guy. I say if Bridgewater or someone falls to us, it would be stupid not to take them.

And you know this how through 3 games? Big play potential comes with time and experience. Dont know about you but I havent seen very many QBs at all that come out from the start with big plays. You can’t expect any rookie to light it up after just 3 games. If thats how you feel then you are going to be disappointed with ANY Qb we draft in the 1st round next year.

Glennon should be evaluated on what he does the rest of this season, especially by a new head coach that knows the difference between poor decision making vs. poor blocking. Glennon is a smart kid, he holds his own destiny in his hands. He is also as mobile as he wants or needs to be. While Glennon is working on his resume, the Glazers should be working on finding a new head coach/GM combination. Let’s pour at least a third of our resources into that as we have into players. We can even offer up a choice of new quarterback as bait. Then we won’t ruin next season too.
