Chip Kelly Raves About Gerald McCoy
October 9th, 2013Chip Kelly took to the podium in Philly moments ago and was gushing over Gerald McCoy. The cool thing was he wasn’t asked about McCoy directly.
“Gerald McCoy may be the best 3-techinique in the league. He’s explosive. He’s fast. He’s dynamic. He can run,” Kelly said.
Kelly, who talks at least as fast as Raheem Morris, is very intrigued by the speed of Buccaneers defenders. He says they have no weaknesses in that area. “Their overall team speed’s outstanding.”
In the running game, “you may increase a gap because they’re not as big as some teams,” Kelly said of the Bucs. But he explained that gap closes quickly.
The Bucs will need to revive their 2012 NFL-best run defense. It’s been good this season but not great. Bucs fans can hope that the Bucs’ speed will neutralize Philly’s offense. Given the stalled Bucs offense, that may be Tampa Bay’s best hope for their first victory.

I actually like our D’s chances against the Eagles, especially against Nick Foles, but then again, I said that last year too.

it’s ironic because some want to oust schiano but it could have been worse. we could have had kelly who will not survive his first year and he’ll run back to oregon

Not bad for the bust many hypocrites here called him 2 years ago.

@Walter last year then your the only person who believed that then. We played the Eagles in December a time where we already saw our weakness, which was our CBs. This year however it has improved and our D-line is…good not great, LBs are awesome and the rest of our team putting in their part. So our D will then play a part of increasing our chances. Just the offense needs to put in their part.

He’s going to command a big contract this offseason, which it looks like he deserves. He’s never had a Pro Bowl caliber player next to him, if he did he would get even more praise. We have a lot of positions on defense that are secure, no we need to do so on offense as well.

Only Geno Atkins is better than McCoy. Suh is a walking 15-yard penalty waiting to happen so I’m glad we didn’t get him. McCoy is another example of how stats don’t tell the whole story.

The D needs to be ready to play fast as the up-tempo is something the Eagles will push. That tempo takes away chances for subsitution so the guys are going to get tired. My heart was ripped out last year against the Eagles, I don’t want a repeat.

Bozai,
Because GMC was so dominant his first two years?
Until last year, GMC was a “bust” by injury.
I will gladly eat crow on this one.
I just wish Freeman never was a Buc. What a waste of 5 years on that mental-midget.

GMC is a good example of a player that if we have just a little patience….he becomes what we hope….a good lesson learned for players like Gorrer, Johnson, Glennon….we are starting to see it with Foster.
You can only wait so long….we waited too long with Myron & Luke!!!

@steveK. U are an idiot. Freeman is gonna show the NFL that he is a good QB when he has a good coach to coach him. The QB coach did nothing for him last year and this. And the play calling is brutal this season again. Trying to make a pocket passer of him when that’s not his strength. He is a scrambler.

Talks as fast as Raheem but a little more…uhh..lucid.

Honestly I think going to the Eagles would have worked for Freeman as well.
Normally I understand giving up on a player AFTER 4 SEASONS (not 5 seasons as some claim; count the games), but Freeman is still rookie age. A LOT of improving coming for the guy.
I predict his success will be used as ammo against Schiano by the end of this year…by the very same people who said GMC, Foster and Freeman were busts. Probably some of them said Steve Young was a bust as well.

I was always praising McCoy. I said Foster was showing flashes last year. I was in Freeman’s corner too but he lost me after the third game. It wasn’t as much his talent as much as it was his leadership. I watched Tom Brady get in the faces of his receivers and fire them up. I watched Drew Brees take command of his team. Freeman just lacks something as a leader. He’s talented. He is brilliant for short periods of time. He’s more like a sparkler than a fire cracker. He sparks for awhile but he’s not dangerous and there’s no fire underneath it all. What kind of competitor says they wanted to go to Minnesota because they already had their guy and he could just chill for awhile???? I want a QB that despises losing and loves to play.

Bonzai
Josh is rookie age?
You are kidding right! The guy is 25. If the guy started college at 18 and played 4 years he would only be 22. Wow, the excuses for the failure that is named Freeman are getting ridiculous.

Some of you commenters make me sick, why I don’t hardly comment…How can someone call another person an idiot for having there own opinion? How can a human being be possibly that ignorant?? Good god, ppl like ‘jarret’ need friends.

In the Little General’s 1st year the Bucs were dead last at this juncture. This year the Bucs have regressed yet maintain the position of dead last.
In Kelly’s 1st year his team is in 1st place in the division. How could our decision have been worse?
If you compare Kelly’s Eagles 1st game with his last game, there is a world of difference. He has been forced to make major adjustments. He is now running a conventional but hybrid NFL offense. Schiano has never made an adjustment in his life. He is still running his 1990’s Rutger’s offense and defense.
The only great thing about this Buc’s team is Bryan Cox.

enh, let them run. It’s not like leading the league in rushing has led to them winning. This is passing league, something Schiano learned the hard way last year on defense, and is learning the hard way on offense this year.
