Chest-Clearings Cleanse Bucs
October 8th, 2013It’s a new day in Tampa Bay. The Bucs dumped Josh Freeman, installed Mike Glennon, and had a bye week to help right the sinking ship.
Da’Quan Bowers was among the many Bucs talking about staying focused in the face of adversity yesterday at One Buc Palace. Per Lakeland Ledger beat writer Rick Brown, Bowers described a Festivus-like airing of grievances between players and Greg Schiano, and now the team is ready celebrate its rejuvenation.
“There were a lot of things going on around here; a lot of stuff starting to be a distraction to the team,” said defensive end Da’Quan Bowers. “But I think it’s handled. Coach (Greg Schiano) spoke to us this morning. He got some things off his chest, we got some things off our chests. We’re both looking forward to sticking this thing out together and getting on a roll.”
Joe’s glad to hear there’s player-coach bonding happening. Joe needed some good news. Joe hopes this cleansing will lead to victories.
October 8th, 2013 at 12:14 pm
I’ll take this as a positive too, but I wish Adrian Clayborn had said it. Bowers is coming up out of two weeks in solitary confinement. A man will say anything to keep from being put back in the hole!
October 8th, 2013 at 12:21 pm
Lol. How is this possible, I thought everything that was going on was Freeman’s camp creation…
Can’t wait until we get a real HC here.
October 8th, 2013 at 12:33 pm
thats great news! great news. not a psychiatrist or anything but I think you got to clear the air before we can come together and move past all of this. glad to see we did that. now, if we can just get a win soon that will really help out as well. get r done bucs!
October 8th, 2013 at 12:34 pm
Yeah, since it came from Bowers, I am not sure what to think of it. After all, Bowers is only 10 sacks away from his stated goal of 10 sacks for the season.
October 8th, 2013 at 12:36 pm
Is this Schiano’s attempt at getting the locker room back that he lost?
October 8th, 2013 at 12:40 pm
What a shift in the balance of power in the NFC-South. Without the Saints, it is 2-11. Last year this time, the Saints were 0-4. Today they are 5-0. Sean Payton has returned. Don’t you see how a competent NFL coach has a positive effect on wins and losses. Want more proof? Look at the 2-14 KC Chiefs that is also now 5-0. We’ve got the team to win now. What’s missing?
October 8th, 2013 at 12:40 pm
I think this is a very positive thing for the team and the fans. Of course there will be those who will suppress the positivity to promote their own baseless hate for Coach. It would be nice to see this story make it to the national media. As far as I’m concerned its a new day in Buc nation.
GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!

Anthony Davis rips former Rutgers coach Greg Schiano
04-06-2013, 04:41 PM
Anthony Davis won’t stop bashing Greg Schiano, it seems. He got a new contract yesterday and promptly took a swipe at his old college head coach on Twitter. And now, he took another swipe, claiming that Greg Schiano didn’t do anything to help him in college, and instead praising then offensive line coach and current Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood.
Here’s what he told Rick Serritella of the NFL Draft Bible: “Schiano didn’t do shit, but make that the longest three years of my life. Schiano breaks your confidence down … That’s his idea of molding the guys. breaking the confidence down. But really, without confidence you’ve got shitty players. I feel like what he’s doing I thought it was cuz I was young and I just didn’t appreciate what he was doing. But now that I’m older, I’m realizing his plan is not working. And I think he’s going to start finding that out soon enough.”
October 8th, 2013 at 12:57 pm
@Splengo…
Let me explain it to you. Rob Ryan and Alex Smith. All the Saints needed was defense and KC was missing a QB. We were missing a QB too. Hopefully we have one now.
October 8th, 2013 at 12:59 pm
I don’t even have to click Play to start laughing.
October 8th, 2013 at 1:01 pm
After watching the Jets-Falcons game last night I feel good about our two games upcoming with the Falcons. They look beatable. As do the Rams and Eagles. I think this team could very well get on a roll. GO BUCS!!!
October 8th, 2013 at 1:05 pm
Doesn’t matter who the coach is when the QB play is mediocre or worse. Belichick’s record without Tom Brady is 52-60. So yeah, even the genius himself is under .500 without a great QB.
October 8th, 2013 at 1:08 pm
Sorry, I know my take will upset people, but here goes. These sort of things are said associated with every team that’s skidding out of control. Teams in this condition get back on track 10-20 percent of the time, at best. If Schiano rights this ship, I will firmly be back in his camp. It would be an impressive feat!
October 8th, 2013 at 1:16 pm
Oh look there goes Seargent Winslow crying and complaining Geno has better chemistry with the tight end he gets to practice with (Cumberland) over the one who just shows up on Sunday (himself). Not that this is news to Buc fans but worth having a chuckle over.
October 8th, 2013 at 1:20 pm
Fritz50
Why don’t you post some actual numbers to substantiate this claim?
October 8th, 2013 at 1:42 pm
PFT just put out an article talking about the Vikings decision to sign Free and what they hope to accomplish. It is exactly what the Bucs are doing in going with Glennon and precisely how I view it as well. In a nut-shell…
“Through it all, they’ll (the Vikings) be assessing the other quarterbacks in order to decide which one should be the quarterback for the rest of this year, and next year. And the next.
There’s a chance none will step up. Which at least will tell the Vikings they need to step in a different direction come 2014.”
For those of you who think we should have stuck with Free, maybe this will give you some clarity.
October 8th, 2013 at 1:44 pm
I’m trying to imagine having a similar discussion with any boss I’ve worked for and it makes me laugh. These players must think they are God’s gift to creation. The quicker Schiano cuts loose every last remnant of the Raheem regime the better. Lots of bad eggs in there.
Joe hasn’t posted it, but Ian Beckles said some pretty scathing things about Freeman and a bunch of young guys on the team getting trashed every Friday night, even with Freeman now gone. And that those guys are not playing well at all.
October 8th, 2013 at 1:48 pm
” no offense. But this holiday is …out there!!!! ” Kramer.
My feelings exactly!
October 8th, 2013 at 1:55 pm
on to the feats of strength?
October 8th, 2013 at 2:00 pm
If Ronde belives in Schiano then so do I. Did Schiano ever lose the locker room or just Freeman. The great John Madden said ” A coach never loses a locker room, a locker room loses its self “.Just think about that.
October 8th, 2013 at 2:22 pm
Winless teams generally have more than one issue. One major problem now resides elsewhere where he just may catch up on sleep, another one needs to stop fussing over the process and get some results, another needs to figure out 8 in the box, some fat men up front need to start pushing people out of the way, others need to actually get open and catch the pointy thing with laces, some little guy needs to split the uprights when called upon too.
And everyone wearing a number needs to stop committing stupid penalties.
Let’s be fair and mention the guy up front with the nice office watched at least a dozen quality players go elsewhere while our own cupboards were bare.
Yeah, easy to point fingers but that’s not our current reality.
Team fail, everybody owns a part of the fix.
October 8th, 2013 at 2:26 pm
Yay- just in time for the family holiday season!!
Harry- why can’t you glennonites leave Freeman out of our post.
Besides- the commitment is in the size of the Check.almost twice as much as Ponder and the other Fellss.
Zam- so you’re saying, that a bunch of twenty something multimillionaires are out Partying on a Friday night???? Unbelievable!!!
Next thing, you’ll tell me that they are out pursuing attractive young women- and trying to FORNICATE with them!!
Oh! The Humanity!!!
Funny thing I’ve noticed. The young men who actually play the game, don’t view the game with the obsessive fanaticism as the aging, middle aged men that watch it. For those guys, it is the sole outlet for both their competitive nature- and their aggressions!!
For the guys playing?
It’s a living!
October 8th, 2013 at 2:31 pm
Cap’n Tim, agree some can only focus on one turd while staring into a cesspool.
October 8th, 2013 at 2:47 pm
Freeman can party 24/7/365 if he wants, as long as the results are there on the field. See Johnny Football who can get away with whatever he wants because he plays at an extremely high level.
October 8th, 2013 at 2:48 pm
The Great John Madden also said Schiano is to blame for the problems going on because he is the, He also said if freeman isnt your guy then make him your guy until you get a replacement…Ronde said he believes in schiano but warren sapp came out and ripped him for his style of coaching so ill believe the first ballot hall of famer first, ronde is talking about feelings but warren sapp looks at tape
and the quarterback doesnt matter if the coach sucks and all this time schiano’s been here no one has said anything about a great job of coaching he did on game day that lead to a win…if you look at the way doug martin ran all over oakland raiders and how bad we beat them, the final score says we let them back into the game…we need a closer and whether you want to believe it or not josh freeman sucked and so does greg schiano but atleast freeman was more clutch at the end of games
October 8th, 2013 at 2:49 pm
I thought Daquan Bowers was cut???? He’s still on the team? Did he switch positions? Maybe he should try tight end.
October 8th, 2013 at 3:23 pm
Capt. Tim, please know what you are talking about before you speak: I am no glennonite. In fact, I think, and I have said, that was a wasted 3rd rd pick. But seeing we used the pick on him, lets see what he has because after the past 10 games it should be abundantly clear that Free was never going to get to the level of a franchise QB.
Regarding Sapp’s comments, please… They are a waste of internet space. He was a great DT, one of the best ever, and if you don’t believe that, just ask him. But he has ALWAYS had the biggest mouth ever. If Ronde said it, to me it would be gospel. Sapp is just “piling on” like everyone else.
October 8th, 2013 at 3:46 pm
Harry,
If we all waited til we knew what we were talking about, JoeBuc would be a wasteland
October 8th, 2013 at 3:48 pm
This is good news… With the Falcons at only 1 win and may be losing Julio Jones for the season, the panthers at only 1 win and grumblings going on there, the Bucs are in a position to climb over those 2 teams in the division to take 2nd place…
If they can pull it off then it is just them and the Saints and as I posted before, how well would the Saints do the rest of the year if Brees gets hurt and has to miss some games or even the season…. Just a thought!
October 8th, 2013 at 4:17 pm
The fact that there was an airing of grievances, so to speak, suggests there is/was some truth to the reports of problems between Schiano and the players. It’s a good move by Schiano to address the team and have communication. It’s much better than the “it’s my way or the highway” perception we get from the coach. It’s important for him, the players and for the sake of winning to get things out in the open and move forward.
October 8th, 2013 at 4:42 pm
Capt. Tim – Shoot first and ask questions later? LOL I like it
October 8th, 2013 at 5:07 pm
Lol- why not! Keeps things lively. Nobody’s under oath here!
October 8th, 2013 at 5:15 pm
Man what a change from the beginning of the season to now for my Bucs and my Gamecocks. Hyped up both could win or at least get close to the big one. Now look at us…..and look at Clowney….smdh.
Well, I have a theory on Clowney’s clowning around….he wants to drop some spots in the draft so he can play for a decent team. Although I can understand some self preservation could also be occurring.
October 8th, 2013 at 5:33 pm
It seems to me, last year during the bye week, they had an intervention and the Little General toned down the Nazi crap and started to pay attention to the actual game. Then they won a few.
When they first started, he had that little note pad and pen, and he was jotting down numbers and fines for hands on hips and talking to the other team’s players and such.
During the off season, he refined the Nazi BS, and now he’s using surveillance cameras, hidden microphones and such. He probably puts in Gruden type hours scouring the tapes for infractions.
As far as the Eagles and Chip Kelly, I have been guilty of having a man crush on him at Oregon. When I saw his 1st pro game, I saw the fast paced offense was not going to work. He saw it too. The players simply did not buy in. The players love him but they refused to play at his speed.
I watched the Eagles-Giants game Sunday and saw that Chip had made massive adjustments. It’s more of a conventional offense now but hybrid. The Bucs will not be able to keep up or out think Chip. He is a freaking genius and a leader of men. Chip has never sat on a 2 point lead in his life.
The Buc players hate the Little General and will refuse to play for him. That’s the Buc problem right now. The players loved Brian Price, K2, Preston Parker, Tanard Jackson, Talib and Freeman. They despise Greg.
October 8th, 2013 at 5:49 pm
@MadMax….
“Well, I have a theory on Clowney’s clowning around….he wants to drop some spots in the draft so he can play for a decent team. Although I can understand some self preservation could also be occurring.”

Or offenses could be figuring him out. No athlete in his right mind is going to lose millions by falling in the draft.
October 8th, 2013 at 5:49 pm
Maybe he should try Daquan Bowers at Quarterback.
October 8th, 2013 at 6:27 pm
@Bobby, well he just did an interview and its injuries. Understandable. Hard to play through pain, especially in the ribs.
So how much of a drop off in pay is it, going from top 3 to say #7?
October 8th, 2013 at 6:34 pm
Nevermind, I just looked it up and they say its just a little less each position. so Id guess about 3-4 mill from 1st to 7th. He’ll still get paid a lot though. I just hope he heals up well. If he stays healthy and does well in the combine and interviews well, he’ll still probably be top 3 to 5.
October 8th, 2013 at 7:03 pm
Always some kind of excuse as to why nothing is ever good enough lol.
Sad really..
Good thing they weren’t ever asking for our approval huh?
I’m lovin our own little group of conspiracy theorists by the way lol
October 8th, 2013 at 7:13 pm
I think Mr. Barber knew about Freeman’s habits on and off of the field. I’m sue the voting teammates also knew it as well. How could you blame the HC for taking a chance on Freeman. I’m sure he was told to get his act together by the coach and MD.
October 8th, 2013 at 7:25 pm
Schiano’s job is on the line.
October 8th, 2013 at 7:31 pm
Schiano’s safe until week 17.
October 8th, 2013 at 7:36 pm
“Or offenses could be figuring him out. No athlete in his right mind is going to lose millions by falling in the draft.”
What is there to figure out? – he bigger, faster and stronger than any other DE in college. You can stop anyone by triple teaming them, look at the production of the rest of line at USC.
I’m not saying I want the guy, with this sitting out nonsense I get the feeling he has people around him giving him bad advice. That’s not going to stop when he goes pro.
October 8th, 2013 at 7:54 pm
@Gatorbuc77
What is there to figure out? – he bigger, faster and stronger than any other DE in college.

It’s kind of like Suh falling off once they had a year of film on him.
October 8th, 2013 at 8:12 pm
“Why don’t you post some actual numbers to substantiate this claim?”
Don’t want to. As I said, it’s MY take on the matter. You have stats on the matter, fine, post ’em up. Not sure they’ll change MY take., but who knows, maybe it will. At any rate, I did state, & remain convinced that, it would be an impressive accomplishment for Schiano to right this ship. Really. anything wrong with that ? Seems like that would be the best thing for the team we love, right? The fact that I’m sceptical he can do it really has no bearing on the matter. After all he will, or he won’t, regardless of what I think, and rightfully so.
October 8th, 2013 at 8:16 pm
Exactly, just as I remained skeptical Free Free would do blow the doors off it’s hinges during this contract year.
Wanted him to, just didn’t believe he would.
October 9th, 2013 at 12:06 am
@zam: Link please. I’ve gotta hear THAT! Love him or hate him, he believes that what he says is the absolute truth.
@Capt. Dim: You’re STILL among the worst posters on JBF, and we ALL know that there are some serious dolts that reside here.
How could you POSSIBLY know ANYTHING about what the players think? What a *blanking* joke your posts are! Clearly, you are aware of this, as you’ve already admitted that you don’t know what you’re talking about.
bucrightoff Says:
“Freeman can party 24/7/365 if he wants, as long as the results are there on the field.”–Exactly. If you’re good enough, you’ll produce. Period.
@buc4lyfe: Your myopia is clearly interfering with your objectivity. #99 was the better player, but #20 is universally known as the more cogent of the two. Your agenda, though, is crystal clear.
@BirdDoggers: +1

Pirrah, pirratty, Pms-sy, whatever!!
Midol is on aisle 9, top shelf!
Nice of you to stop by, and put you critique on everyone’s post.
The only problem is,- you are an idiot. An angry idiot, but an idiot none the less.
Sapp is a commentator on NFL network. He is a league color analyst. He can call it like he sees it.
Ronde is training to be an in game color analyst. He is looking to do the John Lynch thing, and be the color Anaylst for the Bucs.
You aspiring to be a teams color Anaylst?? Good idea to NOT alienate the current coach. Good business move.
Both were great players. Both are all time legendary BUC players.
Neither are players now. Both are broadcasters. If you don’t think that has great impact on what they say, then you are an Idio . . Oh, we already established that!
But don’t worry. Nobody would ever expect you to think before you babble on!!
Good luck with those cramps and bloating.
October 9th, 2013 at 2:07 am
Pariah,
Couldn’t quite puzzle out which comment you were babbling about, during you lil tirade. Was it the comment about how active players aren’t as fanatical as aging men like yourself?
Odd to get frenzied over that!
But he’s a lil proof for you!
Do you see any active players on JoeBuc- arguing every lil minute detail about the team?
No. You don’t. A few “tweet” but you don’t see any players obsessing the way fans do here.
Got better things to do
October 9th, 2013 at 4:24 pm
Capt. Dim continues to embarrass himself by vomiting forth unsubstantiated, child-like drivel. Par for the course. Why don’t you start your OWN blog, so you can further perpetuate your baseless, asolescent garbage? I’ll even help: “Capt. Dim’s Corner, your home for the dumb & useless.”
