Next Three Opponents Are A Combined 4-10
October 8th, 2013If the Bucs can’t win two of the next four games, then Joe believes that could seal doom for the New Schiano Order.
Tampa Bay’s schedule was, on paper, brutal to open the season; those Bucs opponents are a stunning 15-5 combined.
But now the Bucs take on three NFL bottom-feeders in three consecutive weeks — home for Philadephia (2-3), at Atlanta (1-4), and back home for the Panthers (1-3), before heading to Seattle. The Bucs absolutely have to find a couple of victories. There are no excuses.
The second half of the season isn’t exactly filled with juggernauts, either, with St. Louis, Buffalo, Carolina, Miami and Atlanta on the docket.
One victory feels miles away, unfortunately, the way the Bucs’ offense has sputtered. That written, Greg Schiano needs to find a way to play .500 ball the rest of the season. That’s not too much to ask of a team that has all the winning “components” in place.
October 8th, 2013 at 10:07 am
except nothing less!!
October 8th, 2013 at 10:11 am
Joe, I can’t wrap my head around how you keep saying that a losing season will be acceptable. This is a “win now” team that “has all the pieces in place”. there’s no excuse for anything less than at least improvement over last season. How can they go out and shore up the weak spots from last year, get the quarterback that he wants and do worse than they did last year and call it anything other than a flaw in the program that the coach has put in place? If we get to 8 losses, at any point, the coach has to go
October 8th, 2013 at 10:22 am
I think the Eagles game is the most crucial. With two weeks to prepare for them, offensively for us against their defense, there is no excuse.
October 8th, 2013 at 10:28 am
Bottom feeders?? Well if those teams that are “bottom feeders” have a better record than the Bucs, what does that make them? as far as the rest of the scheduale… Miami should beat us, Atlanta will beat us, Buffalo’s defense is playing descent and should give Mikey some trouble, etc. etc. etc… Sorry I’m not as optimistic as you Joe. The rest of the season is going to be very painful to watch.
October 8th, 2013 at 10:35 am
Then dont watch it since your so convinced that we are awful. In fact, dont comment anymore either. Just pretend the season never started and go stick your head in a hole until next season. See you then.
October 8th, 2013 at 10:35 am
If the coach cannot produce wins with the team he has assembled, he should be fired. Period. If the Bucs lose the next two ballgames, adios mafia guys and bring in Mike Zimmer or Pep… Ya know, someone with some success in the NFL
October 8th, 2013 at 10:36 am
Come on Glennon you got this!
October 8th, 2013 at 10:37 am
@pewterpirate99 – Agreed. We’ve given up our right to assume that any victories are foregone conclusions. If we had Jacksonville coming up I would be biting my nails til the last buzzer. We’re a bad team right now because our coach would be outdone by Rick Moranis from the Little Giants right now. Regardless of our talent on the roster, if we’ve got them placed poorly and the game is mismanaged none of it matters and we are always on the cusp of giving away another game because of a botched play, no matter who we’re playing.
October 8th, 2013 at 10:38 am
Wonder if Atlanta is packing it in as well since they are also 4 games under .500. I wonder if there fan base shares the same loser mentality are fanbase apparently does.
October 8th, 2013 at 10:40 am
Well Schiano has his guy in there now so…Lets hope it works out and while the playoffs are all but out of the question now lets see what Glennon/the coaching staff can produce.
October 8th, 2013 at 10:41 am
The wining streak starts this Sunday. I can feel it.
October 8th, 2013 at 10:41 am
If I made it through Raheems 0-10 stretch I think I’ll be able to ride this one out.
October 8th, 2013 at 10:43 am

How the hell did Atlanta get to 1-4?!?!! That’s a team that expected to be in the Superbowl.
October 8th, 2013 at 10:48 am
“Joe, I can’t wrap my head around how you keep saying that a losing season will be acceptable. This is a “win now” team that “has all the pieces in place”. there’s no excuse for anything less than at least improvement over last season. ”
Except that the Bucs don’t have a quarterback, and the one they thought they had crapped the bed for three weeks before getting himself cut. Now you’re rolling out a third round rookie and that generally doesn’t work out the way it did for Seattle.
Fact is, until the Bucs find solid QB play, they’re not going far. That’s how the league works these days. The teams with the best QB play win the most games.
October 8th, 2013 at 10:49 am
Not even sure what the Bucs’ players are playing for at this moment. Have they given up yet? Their starting QB for 4 seasons was run out of town, replaced by a rookie QB, their coach is now on the hot seat as a big portion of the fanbase are calling for Schiano’s head, the Bucs’ second Hall of Famer Warren Sapp even called out Schiano for not coaching well, and the Bucs are 0-4, a record they haven’t held since 2009 and they finished that season 3-13.
October 8th, 2013 at 10:53 am
Atlanta was 30 seconds from the Superbowl last year. It would not be illogical for their fans to believe that they can go on some sort of 9-2 type stretch, especially considering they have..you know…a QUARTERBACK. You can still cheer for your team but have reasonable expectations. Be real to yourself, and ask if we belong on the same field as team like Denver? No. Therefore, are the Bucs capable of winning the Superbowl? No. Are they going to the playoffs? No. Although if you do believe that, I kind of envy the blind optimism.
October 8th, 2013 at 10:56 am
tampa2 take yer spill cheker and bloe it out ure azz wetod
October 8th, 2013 at 10:57 am
This is so disappointing. If our defense played like this last year we would’ve most likely been in the playoffs. It irritates me to see our offense take such a big step back in such a pivotal year.
October 8th, 2013 at 10:58 am
Oh and btw all the excuses you just gave for your loser mentality are just that. Excuses. Keep em comiing!! Were gonna be winnin with Glennon!!
October 8th, 2013 at 11:04 am
Couch I don’t know if were going to be winning with Glennon but I hope. We have til week 17 to see what Glennon can do.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:05 am
The Bucs were 1-3 going into the bye last season. That’s 1 more win than they have now. Yes last season is last season, but that’s how I’m looking at it.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:05 am
I dont think this team is mismanaged from a coaching view point. I do think there has been some questionable calls, but thats life. We all make decisions on moments notice some times they are right some times wrong. That does not make you a bad person or a failure. Some times the ball just doesn’t bounce your way.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:06 am
Rob,
I can’t tell you why Atlanta is not playing better, but I can tell you why they lost last night. The stupid coach pulled a Greg Schiano and tried to run with 8 men in the box against a strong run defense, when he should have kicked a FG at the goal line with time running out. They would have won 31-28.
Coaching is usually the difference between winning and losing! Schiano is proof positive.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:06 am
I dont know either JT but im gonna believe in the guy until he proves that he isn’t capable. Unbelieveable to me that people are writing him off after 1 game. And are so willing to start a new rebuild which will do nothing but assure at least 2 more seasons of mediocrity.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:07 am
Bottom dwellers ? They all have better records than the Bucs. One should not throw stones in a glass house. You might get cut. Just ask Talib,Blount and Freeman.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:07 am
Feel bad for me…I have to listen to that dumb-ass Eagles chant over and over and over again on Sunday. Makes me want to show up 10 minutes before kick-off.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:08 am
The Bucs have all the pieces to a good team. They have two excellent WR’s, a superstar RB, a healthy Darrelle Revis with a stud rookie CB, two smash-mouth, hard hitting safeties, a MLB playing his best ball with Mason Foster along with Lavonte David, and an O-Line that may not be 100% but still not a bad O-Line. The only things we are missing are a QB, a TE, and oh yeah, good coaching.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:13 am
Couch I think as a rookie Glennon has to prove it. He has to earn it. But by no means would I consider him a bust after 1 game against a formidable defense. For the record I think He picks up his first career “W” against Philly.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:15 am
I have to admit as much as 0-4 sucks, some of those losses aren’t looking as bad as they did at the time. Especially the Jets.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:16 am
1987 yea having to deal with Eagle AND Red Sox fans in the same week is pretty brutal.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:17 am
Without question he has to earn it. I completely agree. I just wasn’t under any impression that he was going to light it up his first start. Not saying you are either but from most of the comments I’ve read, it seems like people were expecting single game franchise records to be set.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:18 am
Couch,
Why are arguing so strongly about 4-12? Your bar for allowing Schiano to be fired is 7-9. I know because I saved it Word for later retrieval. What gives?
October 8th, 2013 at 11:21 am
With the media circus and the way September played out for us, It’s going to be really hard for Schiano to not be unemployed come January.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:22 am
Splengo do you really want me to make you look foolish again with you comments that are flat out lies….
Where did I say 4-12 was acceptable? Lol C’mon now. I say a lot of stupid stuff on purpose for you to bash me for, no need to make stuff up.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:26 am
Not sure how much patience the Glazers have with Schiano. After the fans were calling them penny pinchers for not spending all that money for good talent, they finally open the checkbook to sign VJax, Carl Nicks, and Dashon Goldson, as well as sign Mike Williams to a hefty new contract. And for what? A 7-9 season and an 0-4 start the next season with a media circus?
October 8th, 2013 at 11:27 am
In hindsight the Bucs played some good teams in route to the 0-4 start. Carolina got handled at Arizona after the shutout vs Giants and a bye. Jets beat Atlanta at their place. NO undefeated. The Bucs will win some upcoming games.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:30 am
Sorry Couch,
My bad for not being clear. I never said you said 4-12, someone else did and to be fair I was coming from another thread where it was said. But I did quote you correctly on the 7-9 though. I got proof!
October 8th, 2013 at 11:36 am
This weeks game against the eagles should tell us a lot. It’s a winnable game considering they barely beat a struggling Giants team. The Panthers game should be a win as well. The Bucs defense should be able to contain Newton and their offense. The Falcons are a tuff call. R. White isn’t 100% and they’re banged up at running back. They’re capable of scoring points if everyone is healthy when they play the Bucs.
The matchups might look good at this point, but the glaring issue is the Bucs offense and I they can find a way to score points.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:40 am
How can you say Smith pulled a Schiano when Schiano would have kicked the field goal? Smith pulled a Smith because it seems every Falcons game I tune into they have a 4th and 1 and blow it trying to run. They did it like 4 times against the Giants in that 24-2 humiliation a few years ago. They did it freaking last week.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:41 am
Well in fairness to Schiano, he did have the clueless wonder at qb for all the losses in his 1-9 record. I love all the sites, including this one, where fans blame aSchiano for Freeman’s regression. Guess the 10 -22 td to int ratio under Rah doesn’t count. Don’t know where Schiano said Glennons his guy. He was picked in the third rd, not exactly a reach , like Freeman in the first, considering some draft gurus had Glennon as second rd talent.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:41 am
Sorry all but one.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:42 am
Ok that makes more sense Lol. And yes I did say 7-9 and I stick by that.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:44 am
I liked Glennon coming out of college. cant wait to see what the kids got. if he doesnt show much though, theres plenty of good QBs in the draft this year.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:45 am
Yah Chris it makes me smh when people say Glennon is Schiano’s guy.
October 8th, 2013 at 11:49 am
Bucrightoff,
I’m using the comparison of the two coaches as a euphemism to show what happens when a coach calls a bonehead play that costs his team a game. Where were you at the conclusion of the Jets and Saints games? Yeah, I know it could have gone either way. Yeah, but it didn’t and we’re 0-4.

October 8th, 2013 at 12:09 pm
yea couch fan you do say alot of stupid things
your comparing the falcons to us? the team thats been on top of this division the last few years, the same team that won 13 games last year?
we have more talent then everyone we’ve played this year but for some reason greg schiano is 0-life in the nfl against rookie quarterbacks and he simply cant coach. are you saying that hall of famer warren sapp is wrong about what he see’s are we to trust your football knowledge more than his?
he’s simply not a good coach, good is too strong a word, he’s an awful coach and everyone talks about how good the scheme is but if there was any other experienced coach here we would be top defense not a great defense. he’s basically doing the same thing that go dungy fired only he’s TOO active into the offensive play book
which is pathetic because rutgers was never known for having some kind of prolific offense
October 8th, 2013 at 12:18 pm
the fact that fans are expecting us to be a top 3 pick in next year’s draft alone is enough to fire schiano. it takes a bad coach to go 0-4 with a roster like this
If anyone can imagine schiano actually outcoaching someone please he’s a second year coach going against a rookie coach this week….a team we know will score points, how will he game plan for chip kelly? something stupid like expect to completely shut them out of the endzone and control the clock but that should be really hard to do considering how awful their defense is….abandon ship its clear when raheem morris went from 10-6 to 4-12 that he was gone and that was with a lockout when depending heavily on rookie players…this guys gone no way he keeps his job
October 8th, 2013 at 12:31 pm
Hey guys, go easy… Lets not be talking of firing Shiano until we get are draft position squared away, ok? lol Tank it for Teddy!!
October 8th, 2013 at 12:33 pm
Our opponents are a combined 4 and 10.
We are a combined 0-4
Eagles are our best chance.
If we don’t win 8 games- it should be game over for this regime. Dom and Schiano both. Glennon should be demoted to being one if the goal post.
October 8th, 2013 at 12:43 pm
.500 ball? Are you freaking kidding me? What a low, low bar. What an embarrasing and disgusting goal.
October 8th, 2013 at 12:45 pm
If Schiano wants a third season he should win 10 games like Morris.
October 8th, 2013 at 1:03 pm
Fans like Harry make me sick. I hate quitters.
October 8th, 2013 at 1:06 pm
Atlanta was picked by many to be in the Superbowl this year. They looked inept at times. I think this team can beat the Falcons-Eagles-Rams-Bills-Panthers and quite possibly San Francisco in December. Before you scoff at that the 49ers play at Atlanta the Sunday before they play us – jet lag?
Say we split with the falcons-Panthers, thats 5 wins, beat 49ers thats 6 wins. Not sure how they will do against Miami-Seattle and Detroit but you never know. GO BUCS!
October 8th, 2013 at 1:33 pm
Gee Bobby, I am genuinely wounded. First to point out, I have been a Bucs fan since 1989.
Let me get this straight, lets assume Glennon is NOT a franchise QB; if he is, then we BOTH got what we want (all I want is a good QB and the draft seems like our best bet to get one). It is too early to tell, but my money says NO! So you want the Bucs to go 6-10 (that is .500 the rest of the way), up to 8-8 (that is almost .700 – Shiano should get a medal). And we get No playoffs, No franchise QB.
I want us to get a top 3-5 draft pick and have a franchise QB for the next 10+ years. Please explain to me what is wrong with that?
October 8th, 2013 at 2:40 pm
Honestly- I’m with you Harry.
I’ve seen enough of the Pasta Nazi. Enough of Dom
Enough.
Let’s get some experienced NFL men in here!
Amateur hour needs to end- no need to build for a future, that most of these guys won’t be a part of
October 8th, 2013 at 2:40 pm
Late round picks that have had success in the NFL….. You ready? 1. Marc Bulger rnd6, Mark Brunell rnd5, Rich Gannon rnd4, Brad Johnson rnd9, Matt Hasselbeck rnd6, Marc Rypien rnd6, Joe Theismann rnd4, Bart Starr rnd17, Tom Brady rnd6, Russell Wilson rnd3. It’s not impossible that Glennon could be good. There’s even more qb’s that have made a good career in the NFL being drafted late. I just don’t see the point in naming all. I hope Glennon can be one of those stars!
October 8th, 2013 at 3:00 pm
Harry, here’s what’s wrong with that: Rick Mirer, Heath Shuler, Jason Campbell, Matt Leinhart, Jeff George, Vince Young, David Carr, Joey Harrington, Tim Couch, and don’t forget the illustrious Ryan leaf and JaMarcus Russell!!!
There is no guarantee that a top 5 pick will turn into the next Peyton Manning. Maybe Glennon is not the guy. Do you really want to watch the Bucs go 4-12 to get a top 5 pick?! I don’t.
If we do have to draft a QB though, I’ll take McCarron over Bridgewater. One word-SEC!!! And forget about Clowney, the one-play wonder boy! What has he done this year? Nada. He asked coach to sit out last game. Not the guy I want on my football team. Lovie? I give the guy credit for what he did with the Bears but, come on man!
Forget .500 football, 12 dash 0!
October 8th, 2013 at 3:32 pm
Capt. Tim – right on brother.
Bucsfanman – Yes, there is no guarantee on anything. But our chance improve greatly with a high draft pick. Really, how many 7th rd pics are there like Tom Brady? Or even 3rd rd picks like Seattle’s Wilson (lets also keep in mind the talent around him to take the pressure off).
I would also hate to watch the Bucs go 4-12, but if it ‘likely’ means that for the next 10 years I get to watch a QB on the level of Payton, or Rodgers on the Bucs, OMG how sweet that would be!! I watched Payton the other night vs the Cowgirls, what a treat he is to watch. I WANT THAT for the Bucs.
October 8th, 2013 at 3:59 pm
Hell no I don’t wanna go 4-12!!!
I wanna go 0-16
Lose steady for Teddy!!
We have already seen enough of the Rock star, Pasta Nazi, and statue, to know that we can’t become a “lasting contender” with any of them on the Team!!
Clean sweep- get that Franchise QB, and give him “The Chin”, to coach him up!!
October 8th, 2013 at 5:10 pm
There’s Joe the censor at it again. Read it first and post it if it meets his criteria.
October 8th, 2013 at 5:12 pm
Nothing pisses me off more than spending time on a post only to see it disappear when I hit the submit button. You running a blog or a gulag?
October 8th, 2013 at 5:25 pm
If our team doesn’t continue to play to win the rest of the season, how in the world will the coaches evaluate the players? If they give up then chances are they will be gone and another rebuild of the roster. No thanks..
October 8th, 2013 at 5:53 pm

October 8th, 2013 at 6:08 pm
I gave up on Glennon before his 1 start, actually the moment he was drafted. I hope the team does well despite our QB, OC, HC, and over-rated O line.
October 8th, 2013 at 6:47 pm
Capt. Tim
Right on again, last in the league, first/second where it counts – in the draft!!!
“Lose steady for Teddy”!! I love it
October 8th, 2013 at 7:26 pm
How about “Mutiny for Murray”? You know, cause of the Bucs being pirates and all? Haha, these are all cheesy.
October 9th, 2013 at 3:18 am
Quick, tell me what our last opponents record was when we played them…
If Herr SSchiano intends to play Revis 11 yards off of a Chip Kelly coached offense…he might not make it back to Tampa.
While you guys are daydreaming – maybe you can tell yourself that Nick Foles didn’t beat us like a DRUM the last time he started against our Bucs…or that Philly will be EASY…
Son’t go counting your potential before it’s hatched. Funny thing about distractions….when they’re removed ALL the focus is refocused on main thing.
…or – in this case – person.
Some say “fool” but, not me, I’m stayin’ classy.
