“Impossible To Go Back”

September 28th, 2013

Let Joe offer a riddle: Say Bucs quarterback Mike Glennon gets hurt because he is such a stationary target. What then? What does Schiano do when the Bucs face the Eagles after the bye?

Yeah, it looks like the immortal Dan Orlovsky is the answer, as expected thanks to Bucs commander Greg Schiano’s non-denial yesterday that Bucs franchise quarterback Josh Freeman is the No. 3 quarterback. Unfortunately, Orlovsky is beyond abysmal.

Former Super Bowl quarterback Rich Gannon believes the Bucs cannot return to Freeman. So he told his partner of “The Blitz,” Bruce Murray, heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

“I was a little surprised [Freeman’s benching] happened so soon,” Gannon said. “It sounds like they have pushed the panic button. You look at how poorly he has played you get the sense he is holding back the rest of the offense. I think they are looking for a spark. Problem is when you make this change so soon, it is almost impossible to go back.”

So what if Glennon is hurt and Orlovsky is atrocious? What then?

It sure seems as if, by going against the team’s (and Schiano’s) direct orders not to go to BSPN, that Freeman has burned whatever goodwill may be left between himself and Schiano.

It sure smells like Freeman will never take another snap with the Bucs.

Lol of course it’s over, we weren’t scoring.

  2. SteveK (MGM) Says:

Trade or cut bait with this pansy ex QB BUST!

Traded up for your 1st pick ever Dom, thank god you pulled the plug and didn’t make the fans stomach one more Freeman sh!t show.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This is all on Freeman….he should have said.
“I stunk and was hurting the offense….if I were coach I would have benched me….I wish Mike nothing but success and I will do everything to see that happens. If by some chance I get another opportunity, I will do my best to get us a win”

Instead he acted like a rich spoiled brat who feel entitled to the job. I don’t think he left his coaches with much of a choice.

  4. Eric Says:

He was never going back before his interview.

  5. Bobby Says:

What if’s….what a waste of speculation. What if V-Jax and Mike W break their legs??? I mean come on. We deal with it and move on. Why even go there? We all know that very few NFL teams have any hope with a backup QB. What if Manning goes down? What if Cam Newton or Matt Ryan goes down? It’s the same for nearly all 32 teams. You can’t afford to pay two starting caliber QB’s.
There is nearly always going to be significant dropoff in production when the starter goes down.

  6. Tony Two Cents Says:

If Glennon get hurt, Schiano starts Sully, then blames the loss on him…

  7. RBellBuc Says:

Another local self-induced, and self-inflicted season down the drain. This all fell apart before the combines. The local media sabotaged the season by assisting the national media on creating a QB controversy. This team was never left alone to see if Schiano and Freeman and Sully could work it out. They were antagonized daily, and the media tore away at the remaining threads of fabric that Schiano may have had in Freeman. Now that the media successfully got what they wanted all along, they now are questioning the same move that they advocated. That’s right, there is only two QB’s on the roster now. One that has proved he’s not a starting QB anymore and the other a 3rd round QB out of a weak draft class. You reap what you sow.

  8. Splengo Says:

    Stevek,

You’re a storm trooper in the MGM and you are being served. As High Sherriff of the Mobber Patrol, I have a sworn duty to drive your kind from the legions of true Buc fans.

Your lord and master, Couch Fan, has tasted the sword of truth and has sent you out to continue the mobber onslaught on Freeman.

Cease and desist. Freeman is gone, never to take a Buc snap again. You are looking up a dead dog’s a$$. You are dry humping a cadaver.

If you continue, I will follow your every post and fire salvos at your insipid idiocy until you change your name or get under the porch. I pity the mobber that does not heed my warning.

  9. Couch Fan Says:

Dont pay Splengo, my #1 fan much attention. Get back in your cage buddy. Let the big boys talk.

Why are we still talking about the 3rd string QB? Can’t wait to see Winnin Glennon!! GO BUCS!!

  10. Splengo Says:

    SteveK

Listen to your master. He is intelligent. That is why he is the King of all Mobbers. Stop talking about the 3rd string QB that is never going to take another snap here.

Disobedience to your master will surely get you demoted or a bite on your neck. Wise man, that Couch!

  11. Couch Fan Says:

See he called me King. From now on i will be known as King Couch Fan.

  12. King Couch Fan Says:

    Fits me nicely

  13. Tony Two Cents Says:

    @Splengo,

If you ignore them, they don’t exist. 😉

  14. passthebuc Says:

Don’t start with the Boo’s, but if Glennon gets hurt and cannot play for a month, do not be surprised if the Bucs contact a former Florida QB. They will not go back to Freeman unless Freeman does a national mea culpa. Dan O. will never start so they will need to go outside the box to find a QB in a hurry.

  15. Illuminati Says:

I think Glennon’s perceived lack of mobility is overplayed. Both he and Freeman ran 4.9 40s at the combine. Glennon can escape pressure, and also throws well on the run. He’s certainly not a complete statue. I think a lot of the perception of his immobility stems from the way he plays. He simply chooses to hang tough in the pocket, and step right into pressure to make throws. I don’t see this as a bad thing.

Also, I think too many people question Glennon’s durability simply because he has a lanky build. But he’s not fragile. He took plenty of hits in college and never got injured.

  16. Couch Fan Says:

    @Illuminati

Agreed, I watched a little bit of his game tape and I see a guy who is mobile enough to move around in the pocket or tuck the ball in and run. He isn’t going to win any racing contest but he can get the job done when needed to.

  17. Rahb Says:

Bravo Josh! Freeman may not have a starting gig, but he still has FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!!!!

Tuh H3ll with Tampa’s Mediocre Sports Team………Ya already got paid $Millions, you’re 25, single, and there are a bunch of hoes that are out there for you to drill.

There is more to life than Greg Schiano and Football
I was Hoping Josh Whooped Schiano’s ARSE Before the Benching!!! Yeah Buddy, Now that would have been a Story.

  18. Splengo Says:

    Tony Two Cents,

Thanks for the advice, but this is a different mind. Some like Couch are hybrids. They are resistant to sunlight. The only way you can stop them is to symbolically drive the stake of truth through their hearts.

The knuckle draggers like SteveK are easy, but Couch has superior powers. Only wins and losses will seal his fate. The drama begins on Sunday at 1pm. Stay tuned.

  19. Couch Fan Says:

I also have defeated death on several occasions, and took her out on a date once. The force is strong in this one.

  20. MR.T Says:

Hopefully Demps can be ready after the bye week to actually do something with the offense. It will interesting to see how they use him, he could be a big plus in the passing game.

  21. Illuminati Says:

    @ MR.T

Perhaps with Glennon, we can take advantage of Demps’ pure speed. Glennon can actually hit a streaking open receiver in stride, whereas with Josh, the receiver usually had to come to a complete stop and turn around to make the catch.

  22. Sharon Says:

Free is a lip bia&@h. He’ll get another shot and might even do well until teams figure out his new scheme. Then it will be back tolling because he has no football iq or ability to read a defense and call an audible. He’s a weak person and I would guess his followers are as well.

  23. Sharon Says:

    Losing …. Damn cell phones

Furniture Fan has superior powers??? You give him wayyyy to much credit. The more you reference or acknowledge him, the more “power” you give him. And everytime you respond to him, he ejjaculates. …just sayin.

  25. Splengo Says:

    MR.T,

If we’re depending on a rookie that has never taken a NFL snap and a track star that has had two weeks practice, what does that tell you? Like Couch Fan you’re hoping for a miracle. Good luck with that!

  26. Couch Fan Says:

Yes Tony Tootoo because you ignore us so well that you feel compelled to curse and name call in 99% of the posts you grace us with.

The power of couch compels you to post and continue to post.

  27. Bucfever40 Says:

Illuminatti, you are right about Glennon, people look at his body build and see that he’s a classic “pocket passer” and assume he’s statue back there, that he’s gonna get killed because he’s not able to outrun or sidestep anyone, I too have seen him not only run, but throw on the run with pinpoint accuracy, these so-called experts are going to see that Glennon is no pushover, he’s a strong competitor with mad skills, now he’s not going to sprint and out juke defenders, that’s not his game, but he’s also not going to just stand in the pocket and wait to get creamed, he knows he can hit whatever target is open, and having a quick release will bode well for times a DE is closing in, he doesn’t telegraph his throws and the ball arrives quick! I honestly think Glennon might indirectly exploit what Freeman lacked, and moxie is one of them!

  28. MR.T Says:

    Splengo,

I’d rather hope for a miracle than have no hope at all.

  29. Splengo Says:

    MR.T,

    Can’t argue with that!

  30. zam Says:

then it’s Tebow time and they run 60 times a game

Tim Tebow doesn’t do what Tim Tebow does for Tim Tebow. Tim Tebow does what Tim Tebow does because Tim Tebow *is* Tim Tebow.

  31. OviedoBucsFan Says:

    TEBOW + BUCS = VICTORY

  32. Capt. Tim Says:

Glennon is an immobile statue. He is a pocket passer- in a league where pocket passers are extinct. And he is fragile

Plus, he has only two targets. Both of whom are double covered.

And he’s starting against 2nd ranked pass defense in the league

Beaker will be extremely lucky to make it thru the Philly game- if he can make it thru the Cardinals

Tebow is the only QB in the league that would take this job.
The ultimate irony if that happens

  34. Capt. Tim Says:

Splengo and couch- that’s funny stuff!!
And God knows we need some comic relief. This team is in panic mode, like someone just shot a Torpedo down their central ventalator shaft!

Think Emperor Schiano’s Deathstar is a starting to rumble!

    Where’s Gabe??

  35. Illuminati Says:

    @ Capt. Tim

And he’s starting against 2nd ranked pass defense in the league

If by 2nd you mean 26th, then yes.
