Schein: Freeman “Sucking” Life From Bucs

Popular sports radio and television personality Adam Schein seems like a regular Bucs fans in the Tampa Bay area. He likes Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik and seems to believe in Bucs commander Greg Schiano.
But that belief is being tested.
First, Schein grew to distrust Freeman and last year said he trusted Christian Ponder more. And look who guided his team to the playoffs last year with big wins over playoff teams, one of which was on the road (a task records show Freeman is terrible at accomplishing).
Before the season, Schein hinted that the hero of the mob that bears his name, Mike Glennon, would eventually call the signals for the Bucs.
Now, three weeks into the season, with Freeman holding the best percentage of inaccuracy in the NFL at a galling 45 percent, Schein now seems to be turning on Schiano because Schiano banking on Freeman to turn the Bucs’ fortunes around. Schein explained Monday on SiriusXM Radio’s “Mad Dog Radio” channel.
“Who thought the Bucs were going to compete in that [Patriots] game?” Schein said with disgust dripping all over his words. “I mean, Earth to Greg Schiano: You might want to pull Josh Freeman. He is sucking the life out of your team! It’s just hard to watch him play right now.”
Well, Joe agrees with Schein in a couple of ways. It is painful to watch Freeman now. It has largely been through this 1-8 stretch for the Bucs. He huffs and puffs and has his house falls down upon him.
Joe really, really doesn’t think Schiano will bench Freeman. Schiano has to know his job is in hot water and the temperature rises with each loss. He’s not going to go down with the ship with a rookie quarterback.

I mean Josh Freeman is the worst starting QB in the NFL at the moment (ending once/if Brandon Weeden or Blaine Gabbert return). You say he won’t go down with a rookie, but is it much better going down with a veteran who, at the moment, is the worst starting QB in the league?

Gotta agree with Schein at this point. We’ve all had four plus seasons to see what Freeman can do. I just don’t think he has the killer instinct (or the consistency) a top QB should have. So the question is, do any of see Josh as the long term answer at QB? I sure don’t. That being said we have a decision to make…Glennon, a first round QB in the draft or a free agent in the off season? At this point (or maybe after the bye) I’d say give Glennon a try and let’s see if he could be the guy. There are a lot of good young QB’s in the league now (RGIII, Luck, Kapernick, Wilson, Tannehill) why not see if we have one already on our roster…if Glennon is not the answer, we need to know quickly so we can move forward with drafting or acquiring one next year. Time for the Bucs to move on from Freeman…another case of great potential, but not enough production.

The “Toes on the line” mentality is not working on game day situations. Coach can talk all he wants, but tight practices for the Bucs are not making its way to Sunday. Stupid penalties, wrong pass routes, missed blocks and not lining up properly say that “toes on the line” is simply not working. Freeman on the other hand, simply is “sucking the life from the Buccaneers” Time for change at quarterback and time for coach to take a long look in the mirror and realize he is part of the problem, not the solution.

You would think Schiano would want to buy some more time with a project QB.
Maybe he got the memo from the Bros. that they want to see how Freeman responds through this adversity.. And maybe see how Schiano responds through this adversity… Just a thought.

What a depressing season this is shaping up to be. Even a win against a mediocre Arizona won’t get the smell out of the air. Hopefully we can get a win before the bye and get our act together. Schedule isn’t getting any easier after that. I don’t care who our QB is. I dont have faith in either of them at this point.

Joe, Josh is just the worst QB in the NFL right now. His passer rating is ranked #33 (yes, there are 2 Cleveland QBs ahead of him on the list).
Unless we get improved QB play, this ship is going down — regardless of whether Freeman or the rookie is at the helm. I doubt that Schiano is willing to give Josh more than one more performance like his last three before he decides to make a change.
Long term, though, I think Schiano is gone. He’s out of step with the NFL in just about every way — his players don’t respect him, he focuses on the wrong thing (fundamentals rather than schemes), and his pound the ball/stop the run philosophies are no good in the current NFL. The rules are so heavily weighted to benefit passing that that’s where you have to put your time and effort (on offense and defense) if you want to compete.

I don’t think Schiano wants to tie himself to Freeman any longer than he has to. No one would blame Schiano for making a QB change at this point. And fans and media alike know that rookie QBs struggle, so everyone will be much more patient if we lose with Glennon than they will if we continue to lose while foolishly sticking with Freeman.
I can’t believe they’re even going to give Freeman one more start. But, I have a feeling Schiano/Dom/Glazers must have made a solemn pact to stick with Freeman until at least the bye week. That’s the only explanation I can see for not yanking Freeman’s ticket right now.
Glennon may not be entirely ready, but how can he be any worse, really, than Freeman? Glennon could stink it up a little and throw picks here and there, but he could also do just enough things right to spark the offense and win games in spite of his mistakes.

Playing Glennon in that NE game would have been a horrible move, and I don’t think him not playing has any effect on how long Freeman plays going forward. Putting a rookie into a game on the road when the team is behind and up against a Belichick team could have been disastrous. Starting him at home, whether before or after the bye, sets Glennon up for his best chance at success. Barring a lights-out performance by Free this weekend, Glennon will be starting against the Eagles.

Glennon isn’t the answer. He was a reach in the third round. Most had him as a late 4th, early 5th round pick for a reason. Don’t give me the Russell Wilson Colin Kapernick comparison, it doesn’t fly. They have different skill sets. Josh looks lost and it’s tough to watch but watch Glennon would be tougher. Freeman haters can take solace in the fact that he won’t be here next year.

Brewmaster, I’m not sure what Wilson and Kapernick could ever have in common with Glennon besides Wilson being the guy the NCSt coaching staff decided wasn’t worth keeping around when they got Glennon. I’m not saying Glennon is the second-coming of Andrew Luck, but if we’re not going to keep Freeman next year, then we need to see if Glennon is worth keeping around next year as well. The offensive scheme is fit for a guy with Glennon’s skillset; a guy who is a pure pocket passer, who can read defenses, and make a quick decision. Freeman simply isn’t suited for this scheme. Either the scheme needs to go or the QB needs to go… or both.

He is a Qb on the Browns roster who until recently was the 3rd string QB… He started their last game and played good enough to move the chains and get the win… A 3rd string QB, helped the BROWNS win… Out played JF with lesser talent around him… 31 points, with the BROWNS!

I’m sorry but if you go to glennon and he Does not show promise schiano will be gone. Can’t have high priced players like revis/goldson/nicks/vjax and say well we are going with the 4t round rookie. He will lose his job fast. His best choice is to let freeman play. If freeman and the offense do better then yay for the bucs. If he continues to play bad then the blame will go on Dominik. If he switches Qbs in the next couple weeks schiano will lose a lot of the fanbase me included unless glennon is some kind of star (which he didn’t look like at all) I understand the hate for freeman is strong but come on. He’s a solid qb and if we let him go I feel we will regret it. I think sullivan needs to start calling better plays because we have not had one drive where I was impressed with the play calls

Freeman hasn’t been good, obviously. But Christian Ponder is dreadful. And speaking of road wins, the Bucs scored a big one over Ponder and his play-off bound Vikes. Say what you want about Freeman, but he is clearly better than Ponder.

Yeah, I dont expect him to be much better. Just going by Schiano’s decision to keep Orlo on the 53.
But if/when Glennon starts, I’ll still back him up. Cause I root for the 22 we put on the field.
I wont stoop down to the MGMs level and root for him to fail.

So, both of the Brown’s QB options are better than Freeman, along with all other 31 starters, but Freeman is our best chance to win.
The truth is sticking out this year. Sadly, Josh Freeman can’t take this team to another level.
Schiano has turned around the D, and we no longer loaf on game days. We may lose, but it is more a byproduct of subpar QB play that makes everyone else’s jobs harder: other 10 offensive starters, the D gets tired, the HC has less wiggle room with a weak QB and the GM is more scrutinized for having poor QB play.
QB play makes the world go round. Freeman should be better by now, and by golly he has this week to right the wrongs. The offense is offensive.

The numbers do not say he is better than Ponder, but they are losing with AP on the team…that must hurt too.
I used to defend Freeman all the time on here, but I cannot do it anymore. I disagree that it would be worse with Glennon. Somehow I am sure we can continue to score the low numbers we have with any QB. Good god, how can Glennon be worse than the pile of crap Freeman is leaving on the field? So you guys are saying, “hey, we do not think the team can score 10 points with Glennon”, well under Freeman last week they scored 3…and who cares about the missed FG and drops…like Joe keeps saying “all QBs have drops”. The problem is Freeman is not inspiring the team to play better, maybe Glennon will. That is not hoping Freeman fails, he is taking care of that on his own.

Freeman can throw a deep ball where receivers adjust. It’s the “short easy” throws that Freeman can’t begin to master. He’s terrible at that.

You know what it is? The team has finally adopted the persona of their QUARTERBACK.
Think about it. Freeman is a sluggish, boring guy. He barely talks. He doesn’t come off as particularly funny or bright. He’s like wallpaper – no one really notices him. And now the team has adopted his persona and they’re just limping through the season.
He has no fire.
He has no spark.
He has no leadership.
He’s just taking snaps, throwing the ball, and going back to the bench with a grimace after 3-and-out.

If Schiano really wanted to create competition for freeman he could have brought in any veteran…anyone even vince young played better in the preseason than josh…kinda ignorant to blame josh for us having the 31st rank offense this year when he got no credit for us having the #9 offense last year. It’s schiano’s fault for not bringing in real competition that were 0-3, it’s his fault wasting a draft pick on a glennon project when we desperately needed help at tight end and slot. Whats the point of having vjack to stretch the field if teams dont respect what we have underneath

There are plenty of other quarterbacks in the same situation, just look at Tom Brady for an example. They still seem to be more accurate with the receivers they have then Freeman is. You guys fooling yourselves blaming the roster for his falts. He had less to work with in 2010. He has not improved since coming into the league, partly because of the coaching changes but we have to cut bait at some point.

Christian Ponder is a far better field general than Freeman. Anyone that thinks otherwise doesn’t know squat about football.
