Gotta “Keep That Checkbook Heavy”
September 19th, 2013Ahmad Black, earning $555,000 this season per RotoWorld.com, is no fan of being a little lighter in the wallet after the NFL slapped him with a $21,000 fine for his clearly dirty hit on Jimmy Graham on Sunday. That’s much harder on Black than the $100,000 Dashon Goldson, an $8 million-a-year man, was penalized by Roger Goodell. (Frankly, Joe can’t relate to all those zeros.)
Black said what he had to say about playing within the rules and much more in the Bucs’ locker room today, including referencing his checkbook. (Audio via Joe’s partners at 620wdae.com.)

By my math its 1.2% for Goldson & 3.6% for Black….so they aren’t in the same league in more ways than one.
This could actually end up helping Black…he joins the Bucaneer “thump club”….if this helps him to elevate his game, then it will be worth it.
My only problem is that Graham is still strutting his stuff!!!

These fines should be based on a percentage of your game check. It’s not fair to guys who make far less to be punished more heavily for the same infractions.

@ Rob
Sort of a “fair share”..fine. I like the idea…but don’t think they will do that…..the rich stay richer…..but think how much Goldson saved….$100k vs $5OOk…(I/16TH of 8mll)
Can you imagine Revis with a 4 game suspension…..$4mil
OUCH!!!

Well, I’m saying Black should have been fined more like $8k to put him more in line with Goldson, or possibly even less since he’s not a repeat offender. I think the league is hitting Bucs hard with fines though because they see the team as a problem. In two weeks David, Clayborn, Goldson, and Black have all been flagged and paid hefty fines. Tampa is definitely on the league’s radar.

Black’s hit was not the cleanest. Gholston gets a pass because the tape shows the runner lowered his head at the time of impact.

Black’s hit was clearly late and a very poor decision. He was trying to mimic Goldson and Barron but failed. Hopefully a good learning lesson for him, as I think he has enough talent to contribute in the dime defense.
Go Bucs!

Ouch. He’ll only make 534K this year. Pitiful.
