Dashon Goldson Appeals; Fast Decision Expected

Bucs safety Dashon Goldson’s helmet-hitting ways caught up with him this week when NFL warden commissioner Roger Goodell’s minions decided to suspend (and fine) Goldson after yet another illegal hit.
With the Bucs traveling to New England to face Tom Brady and Bill Belicheat, this suspension couldn’t have come at a worse time. If the Bucs fall to 0-3, there is no logical reason to believe the Bucs have any prayer of a playoff berth.
But hold up! Goldson is doing a smart thing. He is appealing his suspension, Twittered Woody Cumming of the Tampa Tribune.

This is a glimmer of good news in a sea of ugly. By appealing, Goldson could be able to play Sunday at New England.
The Bucs are going to need all the help in the world. Joe could just imagine Brady exposing Ahmad Black all afternoon.
This BSPN video explains that the Bucs and Goldson have requested an expedited appeal so they can make a roster move to replace Goldson on Sunday.

Still nothing on Brandon Merriweather. Pissed off might be putting it lightly if he skates and Dashon gets suspended.

I am a huge Goldson fan….but I think he deserves the suspension. You can’t commit two UR and then the next week repeat. Also he didn’t show any regret.
I only hope his suspension is delayed because we need him more here than later in the year.
This will cost him $500K (lost salary)…so it shoud affect his target zone…because if he does this again anytimr soon he may be facing a 4 game suspension.

The only real cause for concern is if Gronk and Amendola are back on the field. Even if Gronk is back, he hasn’t played a game of football in forever. I watched the Pats barely squeak by the Jets on Thursday. Their receivers can’t seem to catch the ball. We have a very real chance of coming home with a W if our defense plays like it did on Sunday. We’re going to have to score some damn points though.

the NFL will probably admit they erred in suspending Goldson for one game, and now give him two instead

No one should be getting their hopes up. Unless Goldson has some sort of evidence that negates what the league wrote in their letter about him being able to avoid that hit, the suspension will stand. The league is trying to make an example.

I agree entirely…Bucs are marked and Goldson has a big target on his back….I wouldn’t be surprised for him to take out a knee on a legal hit…that would make a huge point that the NFL rules have unintended consequences.

If Goldson doesnt win his appeal, I think a good game plan is to put revis as safety due to NE doesnt have a true number one receiver to keep an eye on. that way Ahmad Black can be use for special packages or nickle. Revis can help us as a FS and barron work as a SS and stop the run. any thoughts?.

These helmet to helmet penalties should be privy to an instant replay review as all touchdowns are. The speed of the game is too fast for a fair shake on those calls. It appears that a flag flies anytime a receiver gets baptized.

These rules certainly put the defense at a disadvantage. The receiver is ‘defenseless’ until after he catches the ball and begins to run and by that time he truly is ‘defenseless’. If knocking the ball loose is part of defending a receiver then hard hits that are initiated with the shoulder should be allowed, even if incidental helmet to helmet contact occurs afterward. For instance, on the Clayborn hit on Brees, Adrian hit Brees in the shoulders and then as Brees was ducking the helmet glanced off the shoulder pads and and contacted the helmet. The bulk of the hit was absorbed by the shoulder pads and Brees was obviously fine as he got up with no injury. He wasn’t even shaken up. If that hit would have been straight helmet to helmet, Brees would have been out for a play. they should have to review these hits or make them subject to challenge. They are just way too many knee jerk flags thrown by refs.

I loved our “dime” package.
Did you guys notice?
We had Mark Barron and LaVonte David as our two LB’s.
And Dashon as our SS, then, regrettably, we had Ahmad Black in center field.
Imagine a real FS with sick range? With that lineup?
We need one more GREAT CB and another young, fast, LONG, FS, then we would have a complete D. That can compete against ANY passing team in the league.
Anybody notice how GREAT Brent Grimes is playing?
Why we didnt sign is totally beyond me.
