“He Certainly Is Trying”
September 16th, 2013Greg Schiano fielded plenty of questions today about Dashon Goldson’s personal foul penalties for illegal hits.
Schiano repeated that it doesn’t matter what he or the Bucs think of the calls; the team just needs to fix it.
The head coach went out of his way to explain that Goldson is diligently attempt to play hard and within the rules.
“He certainly is trying,” Schiano said of Goldson. “It’s not one of those, ‘Oh, I don’t care. I’m just going to do that.’ I mean he’s very aware and trying.”
Joe’s not sure Goldson can reach his stated goal — to avoid fines without changing his style of play. Something has to give. And unless Schiano issues a serious order to Goldson to back off, then it’s going to take a lot of time and hard work for Goldson to alter the split-second decision making that got him to the last two Pro Bowls.

Hopefully he can convince Roger Goodell of that before he has to sit next week.

Anytime you hold Brees to less than 4 TD’s you’ve had a good day on defense. The Bucs gave up 1 TD to Brees. They almost got in again but defense stopped 4 plays when it was 1’st and goal at the 1 yd line.
If the Bucs can continue to only give up 16 points or less each game on defense they will make the playoffs, even at 0-2.

Sproles was going down and he is only 5′-6″ or so to begin with. Does Dashon have to get a Backhoe to go low enough to tackle him. Short players have a distinct advantage with these helmet hit penalties.
Blacks play on Graham was late and I can see that call for sure, but he too hit him in the head about 4′ off the ground. It is becoming a strike zone of the knees to the waste. At what point does coomen sense take over?
I saw Saint’s RB’s lower their heads to hit Buc defenders right before contact which is a penalty. Ingram did it twice I think, not sure it was him, but watch the replays if you don’t believe me. You can’t have it both ways, targeting defense all of the time or one team as was the case yesterday.
This is total BS and if anything makes me stop going to games it will be screwing by refs and not our players. Quite frankly, I’m sick of it.
I played Basketball but quit watching it over 20 years ago because betting cheating refs totally ruined for me. I still won’t watch til this day.

And at what point do these refs figure it’s an easy 15. You can look at the Graham play but also know if he catches it with his size and the way he is he can get away. He is tall So Black would be low. But Graham missed came down low by the time Black got there. This is spilt second stuff. Hits as shoulder pad slip to head. FLAG. I thought this was a leading or launching rule.

Methinks Goldson is under the microscope & will be flagged for any hard hit; it is a lot easier for the striped shirts to do here than in San Fran, & he got hit with flags quite a bit there, I hear.
