Revis Unhappy?

September 16th, 2013

Mike Garafolo, a FOX Sports NFL analyst, makes a load of bold claims in this FOX Sports video, including that Darrelle Revis is unhappy with the Bucs defensive calls and assignments.

Garafolo also talks about how much he’s hearing that the Bucs are high on Mike Glennon.

Joe’s no fan of the wild rumor mill, but Joe can’t ignore this coming from FOX, the network that just had all kinds of access to the Bucs in broadcasting their past two games, as well as Ronde Barber working on the network’s NFL coverage.

I’m sure his source is the same person that leaked the story on Freeman missing the team picture so it should be no surprise that Greg Schiano is high on Mike Glennon.

As for Revis, the guy should be lined up on the other team’s beat receiver and inexplicably he has not been. I guess the “system” trumps everything even if it means under utilizing one of the greatest CBs in NFL history.

  2. Buc1987 Says:

Glennon was warming up on the sidelines in the 3rd. I don’t know about you, but I have rarely seen a backup warming up in the middle of the game.

  3. buc4lyfe Says:

wow finally the million dollar man says schiano is to strick….the guy is more slow to learn than josh freeman is, you actually play man coverage all last year with players that didnt know that getting your hands on the receiver is part of it, you upgrade the defense and get revis but you go to this heavy zone. No one cares about freeman being unhappy but revis…this guys on a year to year contract and if he decides to leave after the season is over because of this coach it’ll be too late to make a change….do it now before this gets worse

  4. buc4lyfe Says:

revis was guarding jimmy graham that guy that almost had 200 yards in the first half alone. he cant guard everyone but hey still i would have trusted jonathan banks more than leonard johnson but this coach is actually endorsing johnson like he’s a top cornerback in the league what a joke. colston is like 6’5 isnt he, why would someone barely 6 feet be guarding him. he’s the one that said that the tight ends in our division is the reason we drafted mark barron. the offense is bad but the defensive play calling is worse. a great defense like 49niners doesnt lose a game like that on a last drive

  5. McBuc Says:

They played more man in game one. It appeared they changed up to defend the Saints, which I thought was crazy until it almost worked.

  6. BirdDoggers Says:

The rumors, claims, predictions and reports keep flying. How could there be such disarray after 2 games? Schiano isn’t handling the Freeman situation well and the team hasn’t been prepared. If he loses the respect of the players, it could be a short stay in Tampa for him. I want the team to win and I hope he succeeds, but he’s off the very rocky start to the season.

  7. MadMax Says:

@buc4lyfe….man, nobody was guarding Graham in the 1st half, maybe a few plays, but when he was open for catches, he was OPEN. Finally they started to double team him in the 2nd half.

  8. Ricardo Esteban Says:

    @87

I did not notice Glennon warming up, thanks for the heads up. interesting.

as for Revis…doubt there is any substance to it. he may prefer man, but that does not mean he is unhappy.

as for Schiano…dude needs to bring the refs an apple next week. he can’t yell @ them and expect them to be impartial. they are clearly targeting us. and WTF with the jets player shoving zuttah AFTER the play. shoved him to the ground 20 seonds after the play and no flag. WTF. F you refs!

seriously schiano. apple next week, er the whole bag!

  9. lightningbuc Says:

Schiano’s too strict for Revis, huh? Trade him to Washington – he’ll love their Dbacks coach!

Who would have thunk it – an issue already with the alleged “rock star’s” premier offseason acquisition!

  10. Couch Fan Says:

I cant remember another 2 week period in Buc history where so many rumors were swirling around about the team. They all can’t be false. This one though I just can’t see being possible unless Schiano is exactly the opposite of everything he preaches… if that were the case, you would think one of the players would say something.

  11. BucsfaninChina Says:

Ugh more unsubstantiated rumors from the looks of it. Bucs already shaping up to be team the media picks on every week. Cant say Schiano didnt set em up for it.

  12. mvermulm Says:

Sheridan calls the defense, not Schiano. Those two had issues last year when Sheridan found out he was going to be calling plays for Schiano’s defense, but they have seemingly worked well together since then. The Bucs will adjust as Revis proves more that he’s healthy and back to the Revis of old, and the defense will continue to get better. That being said, if the defense fails at the end of games much longer, Schiano may take over and show Sheridan the door.

  13. Otto Says:

While everybody is so upset, I’m actually excited about our defense. These first two games remind me of Dungy’s Bucs, who played great defense and poor offense….most games coming down to a field goal. If we can eliminate the penalties, we will have a late 90’s Bucs team. Let the media hate Schiano for being a hardnose college coach. We just held Drew Brees to one TD and have 8(?) sacks in two games!!

  14. buc4lyfe Says:

Nobody was guarding graham because LJ was on him buddy, doesnt really matter the scheme sucks if anything that was the time to go man but anyway revis just got on the field and he’s already unhappy….wake up people because you can say IF the offense did this or that but bottom line is as good as the defense played they were on the field when the game was lost….AGAIN we for the simple fact that we gave up and 1st round pick for revis to let him leave after one season means that entire front office is gone starting with schiano and dominick….we have 3 other head coaches on the team, we dont need this guy trying to coach offense, defense and special teams he wont let the coaches do their jobs…the delay of games after a timeout happened two weeks in a row because this time you could see that idiot talking into the headset when the play is trying to come in…mr room temperature is taking the game out to the players hands

  15. buc4lyfe Says:

ok fine lol if the defense reminds you of the dungy days then why did we lose the same way two weeks in a row people, if it was josh freeman that made the exact same mistake two weeks in a row he would have been on the bench. im not saying he isnt a problem, im ready to see mike glennon just to see if he provides a spark BUT they should have gone for the throat instead of running 3 times and trying to kick a field goal at midfield, should have punted and gave the defense a better chance

  16. BucNasty Says:

I’ve stopped listening to most non-Tampa media outlets after the Mickey Mouse coverage last week. Either these “sources” they claim to have are utter nonsense or they’re “exaggerating” the actual facts to have a story people will read (it is the Bucs after all). The media is going to hear what they want to hear so they have something that will draw hits. This smells of baloney.

  17. Couch Fan Says:

Dom’s disappearance grows odder by the day to me. All these rumors and Dom doesn’t take 5 minutes to squash not even 1 of them.

  18. lightningbuc Says:

Guess the “rock star” is out on tour

  19. buc4life24 Says:

Schiano is the root to all these problems. We ARE obviously targeted by the refs. All theae reports each week and so early in the season…there is too much turmoil to overcome.

If this keeps up, look for a glennon start, followed by and interim coach by week 7. Sully better be taking notes on what not to do.

Joe- im sure your traffic here is at an all time high!! We may exceed the circus of Jets 2012. Get ready for the wild ride.

  20. Otto Says:

Automatica would have made that FG, Bucs win.

  21. cmurda Says:

I love the way the majority act like these media outlets are automatically correct. Im not buying any of this crap for a minute. For those of you criticizing the defense. Have you noticed them playing lights out defense?

  22. Buc1987 Says:

I say Glennon will start by week 4 against Arizona. I say the Bucs don’t make it to the bye week with Freeman. At home against Arizona a possible beatable team. being at home will make Glennon more comfortable in the pocket. Less crowd noise and all. That’s my prediction. I also think Schiano stays on as HC and the Bucs go 8-8 or no worse than 7-9. I know that sucks and all because of draft position and no playoffs, but if that record is achieved, all the staff including Dom will put the blame on Freeman.

  23. Curmudgeon Says:

Besides losing 2 games in the closing seconds, where is the evidence, outside of media speculation, that the Bucs are “in disarray” as this blowhard says… There is no substantiation of the claim. None. No evidence whatsoever. Just assertions and unnamed sources. Could it be that the media dislikes Schiano enough to make all this stuff up?

  24. Buc1987 Says:

“Have you noticed them playing lights out defense”

cmurda ..yes I have Schiano is the reason why. He’s a defensive minded coach. I’ll admit though Revis should have been covering Colston on that last play and not LJ.

  25. ben Says:

i hate to say it but i think domick is the reason for the defense, i think this d could actually be much better than what we have seen thus far but they like to stunt too much

  26. buc4life24 Says:

1987- That is a logical prediction. Change has to come. Crazy is refered to as doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result. I believe our HC and staff is CRAZY!

The overwhelming talent on this team deserves better than this crap!

  27. Oahubuc Says:

The defense is something to be very optimistic about. I don’t want to be redundant, but I really felt like I was seeing a defense like I haven’t seen since the early 2000’s- not that they are on that level yet, but the fire is there and the real potential, with multiple guys waking up.

The discipline needs to get there, though, and quick.

On the offensive side, we need to explore new coordinators for next season, and there is no harm at this point in giving Glennon snaps. We have seen literally everything Freeman has.

  28. 76buc76 Says:

Well it could be worse. Freeman could of skated by this season. Having one of his better year’s 30TD 17 int 4000 yard’s. Got hinself a 15M per contract. Then start next year like this year with 45% passing. Na na na na,na na na na hey hey goodbye gosh freeman

  29. Buc1987 Says:

The Bucs missed a FG and they lost. Simple as that. Lavonte David shoved Geno and the Bucs lost. Simple as that. 0-2.

  30. BucFan20 Says:

Well it’s starting sooner than I figured. By tomorrow they will have the lid ready to blow off at OBP.

  31. BUCSLEGENDS Says:

I still LIVE AND BREATHE BUCCANEER FOOTBALL !!!!!!! GO BUCS !!!!!!! Hoping for any change that leads to WINS !

  32. Eric Says:

They aren’t playing lights out defense unless that is defined as allowing your opponent to drive for the winning score with no time outs.

We have the most delusional fan base in the league.

    Embarrassing really.

  33. Bobby Says:

Don’t you talk about that Eric! Freeman caused that too…

  34. Patrick Says:

    Take your pick guys!

Who would you rather have? Schiano or Revis?

  35. Raphael Says:

Wonder if they had athletes getting paid millions of dollars at Rutgers…

Schiano is in waaay over his head

  36. St.louis Bucs fan Says:

after sunday I gotta agree with Revis (if the reports are true) Shiano or Sheridan it doesn’t matter. if your the Glazer family do you stick with the college coach or the $96 mil CB? it kinda sux being a Bucs fan right now. how did we go from a team with such promise to the Tampa Bay JETS??? BUC IT IM OUT!!!!!

  37. Joke Says:

buc4lyfe, what are you talking about with Revis being on a “year to year contract”. He’s signed to a 6-year contract. He’s not going anywhere unless the Bucs cut him or trade him.

  38. 187 Bucs Says:

Let me hip you to the game of football and your Bucs. They are who I have been saying they are. The head coach knows he’s in over his head. He wants you to think he is the second coming of Belick. There is a reason he’s the back up. Coach Schiano has sabotaged Freeman from the start. Freeman is still a young quarterback. He has never had a great offensive line and receivers that a defense had to worry about. Williams is a good number 2. Jackson in on the down side of his career. Everyone saying Glennon is the future. There is a reason he’s the back up. Martin is a good running back, but you know what happen to the Cadillac, Gruden ran him into the ground. You can blame Freeman or any other player. I think freeman may be the smartest of all the Bucs. I wouldn’t want a long term contact here either. The fans, the coach, the GM and the owners don’t want me. This is another Gruden situation. Let’s see where the Bucs will be after Freeman and at the end of Schiano contract. 2-14 season with or without Freeman.
