Safety Lessons For Bucs
September 15th, 2013Five-time Pro Bowl safety Darren Woodson delivers an excellent video (linked here) breaking down Dashon Goldson’s hit that attracted a $30,000 fine from the NFL, and Woodson dives into leaguewide changes at the safety position. Well done, BSPN.
Woodson makes you wonder whether the Bucs have the right philosophy at safety in the modern NFL. And Joe also wonders whether NFL officials, prodded by Roger Goodell, will be extra quick to give receivers the benefit of the doubt against the Bucs’ ferocious hitters, Goldson and Mark Barron.
The video is all Bucs and worth the few minutes.

Those penalties don’t hurt too much cause the other team best receivers gets taken out of the game, but our HC doesn’t know how to take advantage of that anyway…

Heck no, dont change the way they play. I love those hits even if they draw ridiculous fines. It will def stop them from coming over the middle or at least cause some hesitation by hearing foot steps that arent there.

We need to save our big hits for Division games….we have to play each team twice.
All we have to do is hit a bit lower…..too bad if we end up taking out some hips, balls, knees in the process.

This is exactly what I sai dearlier this week and I think it’s maybe the one questionable move of Dominick and Schiano: drafting a hardhitting safety that high and paying tons of money to Goldson.
I love both of these players and I hate how the NFL is morphing nowaday but it doesn’t change the fact that if the NFL remove the hitting part of the job, then these player aren’t worthy of their draft rank or contract

I guarantee that the Saints receiving core are aware of the brutal hits levied upon the Jets last week, courtesy of the Bucs defense. Paying 0.4% of one’s salary for a fine is nothing, especially when you consider that they already pay 39.6% of their salary to the tax man.

Barron & Goldson don’t pay state income taxes…..& I think the fines may be deductible…..money isn’t the issue….it is suspension.
They simply need to aim for the scrotum!!!

unlike the old days when a guy took a hit to the head they would go back in the game, now they have concussion tests they have to pass. the hits are harder and players are stronger but the testing is there and better. let them play. look at the top WR’s in the league, rarely do they get hit like that, careless rookies get plastered or rookie QB’s throwing hospital passes is just as much to blame. BUC IT IM OUT!!!!!!

Just saw a Falcs DB grab a WR & throw him down hard, all 2-5 feet o/o/b, & no flag. But, the foul against David would not have been called against a Pats, Niners, Cowboys, Jints, player either. I have been watching this sort of thing forever.

Seems to me someone here pointed out Baron hitting along the sidelines the way he was in his rookie year was a concern. Turns out that person was right.
Although Baron has been better of late. Goldson needs to play tough, but a little adjustment to his methods would not hurt him a bit and would be a team thing to do.
