Penn Just Trying To Be A Leader
September 10th, 2013“This Joe” just got back from New York and Sopranosland and he will have a non-football report of his eventful time in the Big Apple and Garden State.
Sunday and Monday, Joe was inundated with questions about an alleged shouting match Bucs left tackle Donald Penn had on the sidelines during the ugly loss Sunday to the Jets. This is why Joe loves his readers (and why many believe the TV at-home experience is better than the in-stadium experience), who tipped Joe off to this incident.
Joe did not see it, as he was actually watching the game from the press area at the New Jersey Swamplands. But Joe asked Penn about this. Not to worry, Penn said, he was just trying to fire up his teammates in a critical time of the game.
“I was telling them if we get one more opportunity, we better make the most of it,” Penn said. “Put the rest of the game behind us and go fresh from there. I’m an angry vet. I consider myself a leader. So I was out there trying to lead.”
Penn had told the Buccaneers Radio network about the same time he spoke with Joe that the loss “devastated” him.

he gave up at least one sack without even touching the guy.

He was upset with Jackson for not putting out more of an effort to catch Freeman’s overthrown ball. Jackson possibly could have gotten a hand on it, but no way would he have been able to hold on, and he would have been crushed. More than likely, the ball would have been tipped, it would have been intercepted, and Jackson would have had his bell rung.

Penn was certainly fired up about something.

That appeared to be a tantrum and not a pep talk. He was walking away throwing his drink cup to the ground. I think he is full of it….lol. They need to come together and nit go after each other during difficult times in the game.

*I should say that is what I THINK was going on. I obviously have no idea, but there was definitely a disagreement of some type. That wasn’t a pep talk.

Hawaiian,
Starting to trust you a lot more now. Your second post was an honest opinion. See, we can be friends. Lol

Lol. I feel like Penn got destroyed in this game. I am very worried about him from what I have seen in preseason and now. He just seems a step late.

Hawaiian Buc…it’s sucks fighting with fellow Buc fans doesn’t it? That’s why I’m trying to stay out of the fray for now. I’ll drop down a comment here and there during the daytime hrs and that’s it. I drop it and click off. I don’t want to read the replies back, because I don’t care anymore to fight with fellow fans. I’ll save my fight for Saints fans the way it should be.

Penn and Joseph could be cap casualities if they keep this kind of play up…

@Splengo,
Of course we can, lol. I like arguing on this site, it’s what it’s all about. It’s great to converse with other passionate fans. If we all agreed, it would be very boring.
September 11th, 2013 at 1:43 am
Joe – no need to go through the trouble of asking Penn about it when the folks in the comments section can tell you what it was about. /rolls-eyes

Joe kind of likes to hear an explanation straight from the man himself.

He was yelling at Gabe Carimi. Gabe also had a dreadful game. He missed several assignments that caused Penn to try to over compensate, he had to slide protection over to help Carimi, which left Penn unable to concentrate solely on his job. The jets over loaded that side to cause the mayhem. They knew Carimi was playing out of position and they took advantage of it.

^^^ of course I’m just speculating also but it sounded logical.
September 11th, 2013 at 1:58 am
@kh,
Before getting all upset, why don’t you go back and read what I wrote after my first post. I said it is my opinion, and that I obviously have no idea what it was about. Believe it or not, we are allowed to speculate on this site.

Penn needs to worry about the problems on creating holes for the running game and pass protection. God knows there’s enough there to keep him busy.

Who knows what riled up the big guy? It’s an emotional game, they were all probably more frustrated than us fans. I don’t need to know. What happens on the sidelines stays on the sidelines. Maybe they forgot the mustard on his hot dog.

I don’t believe Penn’s explanation. Doesn’t seem to be following the truth, belief, accountability mantra, is he?
September 11th, 2013 at 7:38 am
I thought when one posted on here, it’s evident that it is a person’s opinion. But to appease some, i guess we now have to put the disclaimer “it’s my opinion”.
It’s my opinion Penn is full of crap. He was pissed at someone and isn’t going to tell Joe or any other media what it was about.
September 11th, 2013 at 7:42 am
He gave a good answer, but I don’t buy it. I think he got talked to about his and his buddies poor play and flipped out. Some guys cant take constructive criticism. I wouldn’t blame him though. They had a rough day and his stress was probably at a max. Again speculation. But I feel he wasn’t honest and we are still left to just guess

Hawaiian Buc Says

I believe what Penn said, because he was yelling at the other offensive linemen. I saw him getting in ther faces. I think he was trying to fire them and himself up. The protection did slight improve after that.
Not much improved but enough that Freeman was at least able to get the ball out.
They need to stop using Stocker to block entirely. He practically waves and yells “open lane thru here!”

“It’s my opinion Penn is full of crap. He was pissed at someone…”
From what I witnessed he is being honest AND you are right. He was yelling at fello oline men and even slapped his own chest a couple times. I imagined him yelling something like
“They’re killing him out there and it’s our fault! We’re better than this! Let’s stop being a bunch of #%$$%$#* and do our #&#&#*@*@% jobs!!!”
Clearly that’s not a quote, but I had a decent view and that is the impression I got.

Well He was talking to VJAX when it happened. VJAX is captain. It sure looked like VJAX was telling him his line needed to get its stuff together and Penn freaked. I rewatched the feed a couple of time. VJAX was calmly saying something to him then Penn stormed away yelling and throwing his water bottle. Its all good as I’d rather see Penn fired up but his story is not likely. whatever though. His blocking needs to be better moving forward, period.
