“You Cannot Give Up The Ass”

September 9th, 2013

It’s an extremely emotional day for Bucs fans. The wound of the historically ugly loss to the Jets is fresh. And Joe can’t imagine there’s a more passionate fan out there than “Todd in Tampa,” who called the Ron and Ian show on WDAE-AM 620 this morning to express his thorough contempt for Bucs defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan.

Todd is livid that the Bucs didn’t come after Jets QB Geno Smith with the game on the line, and Todd is bitter that Greg Schiano and/or Mike Sullivan continues to take the ball out of Josh Freeman’s hands when they have a shot to go for the jugular.

Here’s the audio of Todd’s call. It’s an entertaining 40 seconds. Enjoy. And keep calm.

I have never publicly bashed Josh Freeman, so this is a first for me. But when his headset was malfunctioning yesterday he should have been leader and taken the game over by himself. A true leader would have said coach I got this do not waste a TO. He could have called his own plays! It was an opportunity for him to take control of his own destiny. But no he showed he has no leadership role on this team. Umm, I might be wrong but QB is a leadership role guys!

  2. HouseOfBacon Says:

Todd is totally right, too. Shortest leash I’ve ever seen on a QB. The Jets entire defensive gameplan was daring Freeman to beat them through the air. Other than one early deep ball attempt to Williams, it looked pretty clear that Sullivan didn’t have the balls to take that dare.

It looked like Greg Olsen got re-hired for most of the game. Run up the middle, run up the middle, penalty, 3rd and 13 = a pass behind the line of scrimmage expected to magically get tons of yards.

This happened last year until the bye week. After the bye, they let Freeman go nuts and we were the best offense in the NFL for 5-6 weeks. Defenses caught up, but it’s not fair to leave the kid in a contract year and then completely refuse to let him actually play.

  3. Derick Says:

    Completely agree with the caller.

  4. Raphael Says:

Lol , it’s funny that the caller was talking defense and all the morons want to blame is Freeman . Defense lost the game .. GROW A PAIR and admit it .

Btw I was listening to the ” can’t give up the ass” call .. We only rushed 3 ?? Lol@ the prevent defense ..

THAT’S WHAT todd wS referring to .,

People are blinded by the hate …sad

  5. Nick2 Says:

Its interesting the Freeman supporters constantly talk about the last quarter of the games when Josh seems to excell. What they forget about is the first 3 quarters of the game when he puts us in a hole we would not have to crawl out of if he had any decent completion percentage. A quarterback who cannot hit a dump off pass consistently should not have made it to the pro level but Josh Freeman defies logic.

  6. Name Required Says:

Totally agree with the caller. The defense is still sketchy.

    And that call was hilarious!

  7. Chef Paul Says:

after all day of run run pass on 3rd and long, run run pass on third and long. We run to set up the pass. If Nicks and Lorig is out and Stoker is in, we need to pass to set up the run. It’s time to sink or swim with Josh, and quit pussyfooting around with run run pass on 3rd and long. Just take the reigns off and see what happens. I like conservative coaches but damn man, theres a limit to how conservative you should be.

“continues to take the ball out of Josh Freeman’s hands when they have a shot to go for the jugular.”

What is so hard to understand about this… JF has proven again and again that he is more of a liability in game winning situations BECAUSE he cannot control his throws…. Obviously this caller is still under the impression the JF is a good QB…. IF that were true then the Bucs should have put the game away early even with all the penalties…. Geno hit receiver after receiver down field for good yardage and JF still hit and misses!

I don’t blame Sullivan because he has shown what he can do in this league with a good Qb {Eli Manning}… I see him as being handcuffed and extremely limited by JF inadequacies!

  9. Couch Fan Says:

It’s mind blowing that anyone could watch that game yesterday and sit here wanting to blame the defense…. It’s almost sickening. I understand Raph, afterall he has a lot of invested time in Josh’s crotch so his stupidity doesn’t surprise me…. but the rest of you? Seriously?

  10. Raphael Says:

So that touchdown pass to Mike Williams didn’t really happen ? That was a great pass btw … Lol

  11. Chef Paul Says:

It’s not a either or thing. It’s a both thing. The got 5 sacks and a pick on a rookie QB and a terrible offensive team and coach. Whoopy freaking whoo. They are both to blame along with a lot of others. I am also now convinced Josh is not the answer. But don’t give this D a pass. At the end of the day, they still let a rookie QB get into scoring position with less than a minute left to play and no time outs. Same as last year! Ridiculous!!

  12. Walter Says:

    @Raphael

Apparently putting us in the lead isn’t a good thing, weird huh?

  13. Sneedy16 Says:

They tend to forget about the drops Kevin “Micheal Clayton II” Ogletree that killed the drives and a few drops on the dump off passes also. I do not exonerate Freeman from this mess, but the blame lays squarely on the coaches.

They say they QB should take over if he headset don’t work. You really think the control freak of a head coach would allow that. If he was Drew Brees or Tom Brady.

The team as a whole stunk, Revis Island was the only good thing yesterday. You can tell from Donald Penn flipping out that the coaches were lost. How do you as a TE completely miss a LB on a blitz, and this isn’t the only time it has happen. They don’t practice pass protection?

They were shutting down Doug, but they still were running him into the blitz. Are you kidding me? No screens, short routes, and the TE was non-existent the whole game. We only have 2 pass catchers and it’s so obvious who we are going to.

    I’m done. Go! Bucs!

  14. Chef Paul Says:

Todd is right. Can Sheridan. Can that slouch

  15. Bucnjim Says:

Play calling was a huge disappointment yesterday. Offensively; even as fans we knew the Jets were going to blitz on almost every play. In these cases you need at least one safety valve. Watching yesterday there we’re very few places to check down which surprised me. Then on defense why rush three? They had success ALL day with pressure why change?

  16. gg720 Says:

Bucnjim, because the coaches are idiots and can’t compete on the NFL level. And I hate to tell everyone, but it all starts with the head coach and his style of football is going to make him call Rutgers soon looking for his old job. He is in over his head and what good does it do to get 500 coaches when you don’t let them do anything but what you want.

  17. Couch Fan Says:

So that touchdown pass to Mike Williams didn’t really happen ? That was a great pass btw … Lol

    ——————————–

Woohhooo Josh managed a good pass in between all that other slop… WOOHOOO Franchise material he is!! LMAO, pathetic

  18. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Ogletree should not even be on our team, he sucked in Dallas, and he sucks here.
Owusu can’t always catch either, but at least he had blinding speed to stretch the defenses.
Ogletree is only here, because of his past relationship in Dallas, with a current receivers coach of ours.
Too much of that back scratching shit going on in Tampa these days.
