Darrelle Revis, Richard Sherman Fued Reignited
August 29th, 2013One cool thing about having celebrity players is the fun that surrounds them. There was always drama with the old Bucs when Warren Sapp, Keyshawn Johnson, Simeon Rice and Chucky, among others, roamed the Bucs locker room.
It seems some of that is returning with acquisition of Bucs cornerback Darrelle Revis.
Joe has had a chance to talk to Revis a couple of times and he really is an interesting, highly intelligent dude. Very thoughtful. Very dapper. Cool guy. (Last week Joe talked to Revis not about the Bucs, but how his Pitt Panthers had a chance to beat Florida State next week in Pitt’s inaugural ACC game.)
Last year, loudmouth Richard Sherman of the Seahawks claimed that since Revis was sidelineed with his bum knee Sherman had now overtaken him as the game’s premier cornerback.
Well, Revis responded recently, telling Jarrett Bell of USA Today that Sherman needs to quit riding his coattails and keep Revis’ name out of his mouth.
“He needs to quit attaching his career to my career,” Revis said. “A lot of people need to have respect for this game. I’m not just talking about him. Respect what people have done to pave the way. Deion (Sanders) paved the way. Rod Woodson paved the way. Darrell Green. Mel Blount. Champ Bailey. Charles Woodson. Yeah, we’re the next group, but you don’t need to be getting into it with me.
“At the end of the day, this is a fraternity. We’re all in this together, competing. But you don’t have to shoot nobody else down. You can’t crown yourself as anything in this league,” Revis said. “You’ve got to earn it.”
If Sherman is still mouthing off about Revis, then that tells Joe that Sherman is worried about Revis being better, and that Sherman is aiming to land endorsements by getting Revis riled up.
Of course, next week, Revis could regain the upper hand if Steve Smith of the Panthers lights up Sherman and Revis is able to get a pick or two — or better, a pick-six — in Revis’ return to the New Jersey Swamplands.

Lol. I liked Sherman when we didn’t have any dbs. Now he can suck an egg. If revis brings some swagger and confidence to this team he’s already done half of his job.
tampabaybucfan, I’m already loving what your preaching about revis.

Revis is right you can’t crown yourself. Sherman is good for sure, but not island good. He needs his defensive partners bad.

I agree Joe, it is nice to have a national know star on the team, Its a shame though that the pop-star could not find one in the draft.

@ chef paul
Thanks for noticing my posts…..what has been really lost so far is that Revis has not stepped onto the field in a game as a Buccaneer….reading this, I am impressed with his attitude even more.
This guy is a champion in every sense of the word and now he is a Buccaneer Champion!!!
I only wish he could also play on offense…

@ buc realist
I am amazed that you found some way to slam Dominick with this article.
First of all….you usually don’t find “national know stars” in the draft. They become stars after they show their talent in the NFL.
You could now say he did find one in Doug Martin & perhaps Lavonte David.
You are stretching to criticize Dominick here…

As good as McCoy is, if he was a cocky prick like Sapp I think he’d be a national known star by now too.
August 29th, 2013 at 8:34 am
@realist because Dom didn’t draft Doug Martin who is a nationally know house hold name…….
August 29th, 2013 at 8:36 am
It’s nationally Known not know

Thanks Jacko. Typing on my cell phone makes me feel real stupid when I go back and read what I wrote

@ Touchdown Gus
I got the “fat phone fingers” myself….no problem, typos are OK on JBF

Gotta love Sherman for inspiring Revis. He’s too intelligent to be baited into mouthing off.
But you just know he’s dying to let his pads do some talking.
BTW, it was a thoughtful and classy response on his part.

@ realist,
Grab a C note and head to Dale Mabry. You need some form of relief dood!
Go Bucs!

I guess realist wanted us to draft Manti Te’O.
August 29th, 2013 at 9:43 am
Handled like a BOSS!!! Cant wait to see you on the field Revis.
August 29th, 2013 at 9:44 am
@The_buc_realist your an idiot, your level of hatred just turns you to a stupid kid that cannot make any logical arguments. I feel sorry for your sister.
And OT I do feel like the media is starting to instigate another round of arguments, however Revis does not take any cheap shots during this interview.

So, week 9, Freeman bomb to V-Jax over Sherman for a touchdown? I say yes.
August 29th, 2013 at 10:24 am
Has Sherman said anything about Revis since last year? If not, this is a dead issue. Revis’s statement brought Sherman back to earth. Why is it necessary to rehash old news? That’s the type of national attention this team doesn’t need. Call me a prude but I find it unnecessary. Move along..

[…] Darrelle Revis and Richard Sherman are feuding. [JoeBucsFan] […]

not my comment but thought this guy nailed it.
The difference with how Revis plays CB and how everybody else plays CB is Revis is a mercenary. His job every week is to shut the #1 receiver, anywhere on the field. If he runs to the slot to get away from him, Revis Island appears before him. If he’s wide left, he’s looking at Revis Island. Wide right? Revis Island. Revis will even sit directly across from the #1 receiver when they’re on the bench, showing him psychologically that he can’t get off Revis Island until the game is over. That’s his level of commitment to being a shutdown corner. Every other CB takes their side, left or right, and plays that position. Whoever is in front of them, scrub or #1, they take them for that play. Revis Island takes only the #1.
Deion Sanders didn’t hunt down the #1 WR all over the field. Revis Island can appear anywhere, wherever, whenever. That’s the critical difference.
now that should end this debate. Buc it im out!!!!!

Touchdown Gus…what you need to realize about JBF’s site is that it is FULL of negative Buc fans. I’ve already tried that your not a real fan approach with many of them, it doesn’t work. They say they are entitled to their opinions, and that does not make them less of a fan. Even though their opinions are typically always negative.
