Glennon Says He Knows The Offense

Mike Glennon’s confidence is growing. Joe can hear it in his voice.
Of course, that’s all part of the plan — for the Bucs to develop Glennon into the best No. 2 quarterback in football and the best he can be.
For months, Joe has been asked frequently whether Glennon is executing the entire Bucs offense or just what he can handle.
Before the Bucs’ preseason opener, Glennon told Joe he was still in a learning curve with the offense and he expected Mike Sullivan to call a game tailoired to his comfort level. Today, Glennon was far more confident and very upbeat about his advancement.
“Are there any plays that you’re not running?” Joe asked.
“No, I think it’s pretty open. I’ve been able to pick up everything pretty well,” Glennon said. “I think that’s more a question for the offensive coordinator, though.”
Glennon’s apparent development is great news for Bucs fans, whether you’re a member of the Mike Glennon Mob or a Josh Freeman fantatic, or just a non-lunatic Bucs fan.

Don’t if we’ll see Glennon with the 1’s against Miami. I think Schiano said the starters will play the first half at least. It’s possible he might play Freeman the first half only, and let Glennon get one or two series with the starters in the third quarter.

I’d like for Freeman to atleast play the 1st qrtr. Pull him and then put Glennon in with the 1’s in the 2nd and 3rd. Eh I guess it’s wait and see.

I remember perusing the Baltimore gameday thread on the Ravens board last week, and a couple of people actually stated that he reminded them of Matt Ryan. I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself knowing that he, Ryan, and Wilson received the same QB coaching at NC State.
Let’s get him started…

It will be interesting how much time JFro-6pak does get. It Seems like 2 series and they are seeing if he sinks or swims while giving a good work load to Glennon. I think they give Jfro until the bye-week to prove it before getting benched. And it is not about what Glennon is doing, but more of what JFro cannot do.

I’ve been beating around this theory the last few days, I’d like some opinions on, especially Joe if you’re interested. All this talk we’ve had all summer about Freeman’s late season flop. I hope we can agree pretty much the whole team kind of quit last year. I’m thinking, is it possible Schiano had himself a rookie wall that he hit? Last year he changed about as much as is possible for a person to change in one season. That’s a lot of work in itself. Late in the year I noticed he just looked tired. Beat down, whooped. I also remember a play by play fella mentioning how tired he was. My theory is coming in and a putting his finger prints on every single detail for months on end just burnt him out. Then coming from college to the NFL just like a player.
Now this year comes and he says he’s going to be a little lenient with the players, which in turn makes his job a little less demanding than last year allowing him to run the “marathon” of the NFL season.
I’m not trying to get into a “it’s not Freeman’s fault debate.” I’ll probably get a response like “ya Joe wrote about that 4 months ago” but I may have missed that

I wonder how long before Joe realizes the writing on the wall. The plan isn’t exactly to make Glennon the best #2 in the league. Its to get him up to speed as fast as possible with as many reps in practice, and preseason as he can get in case #5 pulls his patented Free-fall this season. We need to know what Glennon has for 2013. Possibly sooner depending on how Coach Schiano handles the inevitable media QB controversy blitz if Freeman under performs.

that is the one thing I cannot understand. a lot of the teams are already playing their starters through the first half, and yet our starters are only getting 2 or 3 series. I know people are saying its because players like Remmers are in there, but at the same time they need those reps. find a way to play them the entire first half.

It’s a quarterback driven league so all I want is a great quarterback behind center and I have my doubts about Freeman long term, so does the coach and gm.

Here is what NFL philosophy had to say about Glennon: “I have a feeling QB Glennon will be as maddening as Freeman. Comes up with some remarkable throws and then unleashes a wild throw that leaves me asking, ‘What was that?”

for our coaching staff to not get an extended look at our starters, that must mean they feel confident that our starters will produce come week 1 of the regular season. it either that or injury prevention outweighs everything.

There was no patented freefall for Freeman until last season. 1 season of freefall. 2011 he and the whole team sucked completely. Using the term “patented”. Makes it seem like he does it from season to season.

Not sure why people act like they want to see Freeman fail. Like a few have posted, whatever is best for the team. I personally want to see Freeman do well, get extended and have Glennon be ready to come in when the time comes (injury or a few yrs down the road).
I am just glad to see us molding a young QB that has potential versus the journeyman back qb we have had (minus the Josh Johnson experiment).
I’m pulling for Freeman for our teams sake and Glennon getting his shot when the time comes!

Andrew 1 – Ive been suspecting its more about a fear of injuries than anything else. We got hit pretty good before the regular season last year and I feel Schiano is going above and beyond to lessen the likelihood of it happening again. Im fine with it really. But the fact that 28 other starting QB’s have played more snaps then Free seems a bit extreme. Manning is old and has dealt with recent injury yet he’s played way more snaps than Free? Seems odd seeing as though Manning is way more valuable to his team and more susceptible to injury than Freeman is.

I think everyone needs to stop and think. This start Glennon chant is way too risky, besides Coach Schiano has committed and has already said Freeman will start the season as his QB. I don’t know where that secretly says he wants Glennon. I think if he wanted Glennon this Coach would have said he may start Glennon. Like Rex Ryan
Here’s a question for you who are willing to take a chance with our season. What if we give Glennon the starting job and we lose our ass in NY because he plays poorly and makes a bunch of rookie mistakes and we couldn’t overcome them.
Then what, start Freeman at home against the Saints, and smash Glennon confidence, or start Glennon and hope that he doesn’t repeat his first performance. It would destroy this guy if we went 0-3 or 0-5 under him. Especially when we have a journeyman QB who set new Buc records the year before.

There’s only 1 analyst that I listen to. His name is Greg Schiano. Hmmm I seem to remember how many analysts predicted the Bucs could not go up to Philly and beat the Eagles in the NFC Champ game. There was only 1 analyst I listened to back then. His name was Jon Gruden.

Buc1987 – It happens just as often as he plays well. If people can tout his games of excellent performance then you have to point out the just as numerous completely awful games. He had a meltdown last season, and the season before. It’s a pattern.

His late season flop can attributed to opposing teams getting enough tape on how to scheme their defense. In other words the long bomb stopped working but the Bucs didn’t adapt quickly enough to take advantage of what the defense was giving them.
I think that was because they were still opening up their playbook. Last year was a learning curve for the coaches and players. That’s why the Bucs feel comfortable going into their second season.

Even if there is an analyst out there that says Freeman can become a great QB. I won’t care about what he has to say either.
Schiano, McNulty, Sully, and Dom have all said Freeman looks like he’s improving. That’s good enough for me. Maybe not for you. Like I said I don’t care what’s good enough for you.

More telling than what a coach thinks is when a former teammate, i.e. Ronde Barber, becomes an analyst and doesn’t exactly have rave reviews about one JFro. Coaches and players will always toe the company line, but Barber doesn’t have to do that anymore.

So now you can read into what Barber has never said, because I listened to him and he said nothing different than everyone else. He needs to be consistent. He can’t carry the team on his back. As far as I’ve always known teams has always meant the offense and defense.
What did you hear that I didn’t?. I mean, I have a HD TV, and I could see his lips moving but maybe he mouthed something when I turned back. Please enlighten me since evidently you have the expert ability to read body language, or have super bionic hearing.

Ok, that as well and the lack of playbook knowledge. I think that’s why you saw so many INT’s. late in the year. Teams were keeping a safety to help over the top. Hopefully when teams do that this year, if our defense is stout, we’ll run it down their throats. We have a stable this year.

I guess if I had on the rose colored glasses that you watch the Bucs with and had an infatuation with JFro like you do, I wouldn’t have thought that much of Barber’s comments either. Barber said he’s prone to mistakes. Yes, I realize all QB’s make mistakes, but when one is said to be prone to them, that means they make more than normal – like calling a running play on 3rd and long when your headset goes out and your team is trailing towards the end of the game. If you want to dismiss Barber’s comments, that’s fine. But to some of us they were very telling.

To be up front with you, 2010 wasn’t as great as many throw in there. Josh had his worst games against good teams. He played awful vs pittsburh, Baltimore, Atlanta, New Orleans. 5 of their 6 losses.
A lot of the plays were broken plays that extended drives. Josh did well but in the nfl you can’t continue to play like josh did in 2010. Need to develop as a pocket passer.

^^^ um you mean freeman wasted draft pick? Sorry but josh looks good in practice but I think it’s bc there is no pressure and to run around the qb. He throws from a clean pocket. Idk freeman just looks scared and not confident back there.
