Nicks Nixed At Last Minute
August 17th, 2013All-Pro guard Carl Nicks was supposed to play last night against the Patriots.
He didn’t.
Bucs fans were told that Nicks playing last night was all part of his step-by-step rehabilitation/readiness plan. But minds changed, so documented Woody Cummings of The Tampa Tribune.
About 90 minutes before kickoff, the Bucs announced they decided to scratch Nicks from the lineup, saying he had put in enough good work during joint practices against the Pats to warrant sitting out.
The Bucs stressed the decision was not the result of any kind of setback for Nicks, who is still recovering from the plantar tissue tear in his left big toe that ended his 2012 season after seven games.
“It’s no big setback or anything,’’ Bucs coach Greg Schiano said. “We just feel like it’s better that we get him better for next week to play a considerable amount of time.
“He got some really good work up here during the week, so we feel like he’s gotten enough already for this time in his recovery and return. We feel good about that.’’
Joe’s not encouraged. Nicks was going to play around 10 plays or so last night. That’s peanuts, yet the Bucs held him out.
Like every other Bucs fans, Joe hopes the health fairy visits the Bucs and has Davin Joseph, Carl Nicks, Darrelle Revis and Adrian Clayborn ready to play a full game — at full strength — when the season kicks off in 22 days.

I think the Bucs are playing it right for these injured players. I do not think Nicks is having troubles, but I do think he needs a little more time. Better overly cautious than taking unnecessary chances.
I wouldn’t mind if they didn’t play him until game 1.

Don’t worry Joe, all these pro bowlers will just step in as soon as the regular season starts, that always ends up well. Any takers on who will pull a hamstring first????

A side note on Martin…he needs a lot of work at pass blocking. He was horrible last night. That first sack? All on him.
And on the play he got knocked out of the game on he was diving at the knees…a dirty move. I don’t believe his intent was to play dirty, but he needs work on his technique.
I don’t think they would have pulled him if it was regular season. It was pretty clear he was fine afterward. I can understand why they played it safe in a preseason game.
Yet anothercexample that preseason is nothing more than a tryout for depth and practice for young starters.

Hopefully Tampa fans will get lucky and all 16 games will be blacked out on TV. Not a team I would enjoy watching, about as exciting as watching paint dry.

Cut that darn toe off Carl and you’ll be happier with 9 good one!

@ the_buc_realist
That is a risk…but these guys are getting plenty of work in practice so there chances are lowered at least.

Jeez, Joe… give me a bright spot here and there.
Sorry, but heaping weird affectations toward Gabe Carimi isn’t exactly filling me with hope for the season.
But I guess that’s just it. All of our hopes for the season rest on players that we hope get better and those riding the injury train.
Anything on the Muscle Hamster’s head injury, yet?

Maybe Schiano just didn’t want to tip his hand on any of these players to an opponent that we will be seeing very soon when it really does count.
I think Schiano is much smarter than you all are giving him credit for. All these moves have a purpose I believe.

I have a feeling they didn’t want to test that toe for the first time against Vince Wilfork…can’t say I blame them.
August 17th, 2013 at 11:47 am
Wilfork the human forklift is the perfect person to test any olinemen with..the best right!
We paid a massive contract for 4 healthy games from Nicks. Now it looks like we get a 80% player for the rest of the contract. Lol
You fans are so smart! Now run that out of town!

Couch Fan…yer right. What I learned from last nights game and so many foolish comments that were coming in left and right on JBF is Buc n Junkie is right. There is not a dayum thing anyone of us can do about this team. The comments people were dropping in here saying the Bucs should do this or they should that as if saying it was going to make it happen. Your right for mentioning Schiano is much smarter than people are giving him credit for. Hell some are even envoking the name Raheem again. Why bother with all this crap? There is nothing we say in here that is going to change this team. We don’t call the shots. It’s fine if this person or that person wants to criticize this player or that play call. It’s when they say stuff like we just need to do this more or that more. I’m guilty of it too. That drives me f-ing crazy. To the point I really don’t want to click the comment button anymore. Atleast until the real season starts.
Believe it or not I started reading people’s comments originally to get a gauge on how other Buc fans percieve this team will be this season. Not to fight with other Buc fans, which I pretty much do daily. Now I’ve finally come to a conclusion that none of that matters anymore.
As for the rest of you that want Glennon in there. Unless your name is Greg Schiano there is nothing you can do about it, but watch the game.

Like I’ve said NUMEROUS times… Nicks won’t make it past Week 6. This is just the Buccaneers posturing to make the bad news not so bad. They’ve been giving us bits of bad news for the last few weeks now… so when they finally put him on IR, it won’t be much of a surprise. Typical psychological move. Kind of like when you have a sick friend or relative… when they finally pass away, you’re not really surprised because they’ve kept having setbacks. Yet you’re all shocked and surprised when someone dies without any kind of warning.
Nick – IR – by Week 7.
Oh, and he won’t play next pre-season game either. You can COUNT on that.
August 17th, 2013 at 12:47 pm
I know this sounds crazy but can he cut his toe off so then there is no more pain?
August 17th, 2013 at 12:57 pm
Im no doctor, but Im pretty sure you get most of your balance from your big toe. I think cutting it off would not be a good idea.
August 17th, 2013 at 11:21 pm
Buc 1987 I said that last year! Nobody has any money shares or stock invested in the bucs. Esp the posters on JBF like what we say is changing anything. We can only hope a lil bird is reading our post.
The reason your argue daily with other fans is because you always got something to say about other posters opinion. Always calling postrrs out of their name. Throwing your opinion around like its the bible. know it all!
Quit doing that and you want get the childish feedback lil boy!

Want to read something childish from someone that calls themself a fan? I call them fairweather fans. This guy right here. Throwing his opinion around like its the bible. know it all!
SacBucs Says :
He shood sound down with thaat weak sauce coaching from college. The whole team will be tired by mid season. Find a real defensive coordinator. Demote dom to asst. Wateva!
Tell Schiano thi$ the PRO$ that elementry school pop warnerway of coaching aint flying. Bill sheridan defense is suspect.
I wont stress off the bucs ever again until we get a real organization.
Im sick of being the Raiders of the NFC or the wizards of the NBA. I will not spend my money on season tickets until we have a team worth a dam.
Meredith and Carimi looked better at tackles then our starters.

^^^^ Is it my fault that 1/2 of the Buc fan base is like this guy?
