Revis Cautious About Week 1 Start
August 5th, 2013Three days prior to the Bucs’ first preseason game and 34 days prior to the Bucs’ opening day game at the New Jersey Swamplands against the Jets, star cornerback Darrelle Revis isn’t ready to say, without hesitation, he will start when the Bucs face Gang Green.
“I think that’s still too far down the road,” Revis said after practice today. “Right now just going day by day, but that is the goal and we’ve talked about that. I want to be there, first day, first game, with my teammates.’’
Revis has participated in drills and walkthroughs but has yet to face live bullets in 11-on-11 drills or scrimmages. Today when the Bucs were in their two-minute drill to close practice, Revis stood on the sideline, helmet in hand.
“I’ve been doing one on ones with a couple receivers and just getting back into it,” Revis said. “I did some DB drills today, got back into a little bit, got aggressive, fell to the ground a few times. Just getting back into the football phase of hitting the ground hard and getting back up and just getting back in that mode. I’m reacting to the everything they’re giving me. Just reacting and trying to cover the routes.”
Olive oil-lapping, popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried-chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, circle-jerking, beer-chugging, cricket-watching, scone-loathing, college football-naïve, baseball box score-reading Peter King, of Sports Illustrated, NBC Sports and his new fancy, yet mostly tedious and stuffy website, theMMQB.com, interviewed rock star general manager Mark Dominik, who told King he is “almost certain’’ Revis will start against the Jets.
“I don’t care how great a player you have been,’’ Greg Schiano told King. “Confidence is a funny thing. When you’re talking about a guy as good as Darrelle, you don’t think a guy needs to feel confident. But we just got [Pro Bowl guard] Carl Nicks back in live drills [from a serious 2012 toe injury], and he just stoned a defensive guy rushing hard. And you could see the weight of the world lifted off his shoulders. I mean, this is his livelihood. It’s the same with Darrelle. He needs to know he’ll be good when he gets into a game.”
So the intrigue and drama continues.
Will Revis soon go full speed and make receivers pay to step on his island, or will Revis still be a man without an island come Sept. 8?

You know what King needs on his website? Bigger buttons. Holy crap that website is made for senior citizens. All the text is annoyingly HUGE.
As for Revis, I think he is playing week one versus the Jets. Although, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was yanked if the score gets out of hand.

I think after game 2 we could see Revis begin to practice fully. If he plays in Pre-Season I would imagine it’d be only a few snaps in the last game. Just to get him a feel… Can you imagine the fall out if he were to reinjure himself in a meaningless pre-season game?

Revis will play…..I spoke to his knee and the knee told me so.
The knee also told me that it would like to get a small bit of action in the preseason…not to much because he doesn’t want to risk too much prior to the season opener.
The knee commented ” I find it incredible that all of these comments are being made without anyone speaking directly to me”….after all, I am the only one that knows.

umm TBfan….that wasn’t his knee

Nothing to worry about here. After all, Mark Dominik told Jim Rome that the Bucs know knees.

@Robert
You’re the one who doesn’t know the differnce….I know a knee when I see one!!

I think the Bucs are simply taking the Rays approach to injuries. It is better to be overly cautious, than to rush it and reinjure.
I also fully expect Revis to play on opening day, but don’t be surprised if he is on the injury list as day to day. Coach is friends with Billacheat, and that man loves to do stuff like that.

@Tampabaybucfan Lol your should start your own site for knee interviews and ACLs add in hip for Percy Harvin.
Revis can only be reviewed with what he has done and with what he has done is good. Albeit his work has been limited. They will expose his to more practice soon enough and hopefully a pre-season game or two.

He be fine. He’s 11 month’s out from surgery. AP was only 7 month’s out when he returned

I don’t want to see Revis line up live till after the bye.

If we really need him to beat the jets we are in trouble.
I don’t think the jets are one of those super tough NFC teams that are going to make it virtually impossible for the Bucs to make the playoffs.
Easy win.

Lol im sure the Jets are looking at The Bucs Week 1 and thinking “Easy win” to

I think the caution is on the part of the trainers…NOT Revis. He has said over and over that he is ready to go. He is just submitting to the schedule the organization has him on. I don’t have a problem with them being cautious and deliberate.

Keep him on the sideline until he is 95%. Yes, it would be a GREAT story to have Revis play against the Jets, but at what cost. One, it’s an AFC game (yeah a win is a win but…). Two, if you push him back and he “flops”, we are pretty much screwed. Three, keep him off Adderall…j/k.
NOTE: I have a suspicion this is all talk and he’ll play…and dominate.

Uh-oh.

Don’t you think he’s already healed enough to play? They just want to take as much time as possible. I suspect he starts to increase his time on the practice field, will be held out of the first two pre-season games but play a little towards the ends of the third and forth per-season games. There’s no doubt in my mind that he starts the Jets game.
