Highlights Of Bucs Training Camp Practice
August 5th, 2013Here are news, notes and sights Joe noticed at Bucs training camp 2013 Day 10.
Final two-minute drill, first-teams face off.
* Kevin Ogletree is the No. 3 receiver in the three-wide set
* Freeman pass high for Mike Williams
* Ogletree has a tough 15-yard catch (but catchable) on the sidelines go through his hands
* First down! Freeman throws a rope to V-Jax. Johnthan Banks was on V-Jax’s back and hit him. VJax a little slow to get up.
* Freeman overthrow to Ogletree
* Tight end Tim Wright (undrafted rookie) lines up as fourth receiver in set.
* Freeman to Ogletree. Complete!
* Freeman spikes ball to kill clock.
* Freeman incomplete to Ogletree over the middle. Ahmad Black blanketed him.
Further notes on practice:
* Really good turnout of fans this morning for a steamy Monday. Bleachers are pretty packed. Open only to season ticket holders, but still.
* Crowd is worked up watching WRs run through dummies and catch sideline passes.
* Really cool how Mike Glennon snaps his chin strap. Josh Freeman should be looking over his shoulder as a result. #Sarcasm
* Greg Schiano birddogging linebackers and defensive backs working on side field.
* Glennon back shoulder throw to Mike Williams on left sideline sails high and out of Williams’ reach.
* It is early, but Josh Freeman drilling receivers in the numbers. Continuation (so far) of his solid week last week.
* Beautiful bomb from JF5 to Tiquan Underwood down left sideline for TD. Nice over-the-shoulder catch. Ball just dropped into Underwood’s arms.
* Mike Glennon hits Kevin Ogletree in stride down left sideline for bomb.
* Freeman hits Williams along left sideline w/ good coverage from Leonard Johnson. JF5 put ball where only WR could get it & MW19 did.
* Major tease: Darrelle Revis takes field w/ 1st team defense guarding VJax & crowd freaks out chanting “Revis… Island” [clap/clap… clapclapclap]) alas, he is only going through walkthroughs
* Freeman with a laser to VJax. JF5 is in a zone the past week.
* Rashaan Melvin made an excellent play on Chris Owusu over middle to break up a pass. Because Melvin wasn’t able to haul in the ball for a pick, he dropped to the ground and gave Greg Schiano 10.
* JF5 and VJax putting on a show.
* Freeman is totally on his game this morning.
* Carl Nicks is practicing and is one of few humans to make Donald Penn look average-sized.
* Rashaan Melvin like a second skin on Derek Hagan.
* Tiquan Underwood goes high and nearly hauls in on-handed catch along left sideline. Anthony Gaitor with good coverage.
* Chris Owusu working with first team offense.
* First bad throw (?) JF5 had thus far: overthrew Kevin Ogletree on a bomb.
* VJax with a circus catch in corner of end zone in two-minute drill but he only got one foot in.
* Doug Martin accelerates through the line and breaks free. Man, when this dude sees a hole, he throws open the booster rockets!
* Rejection! Martin tries to run up middle and Mason Foster nearly flattens him, knocking Martin backwards.
* Sean Baker with a pick off a tipped Glennon pass.
* Mike James getting work with first team offense (again). Haven’t had a Michael Smith sighting in some time. (Just as Joe typed that, Smith gets a carry).
* Steven Means with very good penetration from right side. Would have had a sack if JF5 wasn’t wearing the jersey of green.
* JF5 to Ogletree off his hands left sideline.
* VJax with sick catch on right hashmarks.
* Ogletree catch over middle. Good pressure from Steven Means.
* Long pass just past Ogletree’s fingers. He was targeted a lot in that drive.

Keep it up Freeman, there’s no reason for you not to succeed. Unite the fan base again.

Freeman is totally on his game this morning.

Lmao come on joe you can do better than that now
August 5th, 2013 at 1:20 pm
@robert
Pretty sure Freeman throws a lot more than 3 passes during practice every day you idiot
August 5th, 2013 at 1:21 pm
Joe you retweeted a comment that Bowers was “walking gingerly” on the sidelines with Clayborn… I didnt read any thing about it in this article so I am hoping was just a false alarm…
phew
August 5th, 2013 at 1:26 pm
Come on, now, Robert, you don’t seriously expect a 100 % completion rate , right ? You do know that this isn’t Madden, don’t you?
August 5th, 2013 at 1:27 pm
Can’t help but think that Revis and Goldson have been instrumental to the development of the young CBs. Worst to first would be an amazing feat in this division but I think it is possible with this pass defense.
Really hope I get to see the pre season game on Thursday over here on the West coast but I doubt it. I may just have to get that NFL.com pre season package.
Real football is so close I can taste it!
August 5th, 2013 at 1:29 pm
simmer down walt. sheez, it’s like your defending your wife or something.
seriously though. It sound like those WR’s are doing one hell of a job wrangling in those passes.
seems like a lot of WR/DB coverage.
how do the trenches look joe? anyone standing out we should know about?
August 5th, 2013 at 1:31 pm
westcoast. get the preseason package. best 20 bucks I ever spent. seriously. DO IT!
it’s friggin awesome.
August 5th, 2013 at 1:33 pm
Roberto is in full on troll mode, you’d think Maddon pulling him in the 5th inning yesterday would have been a sign to leave Freeman alone.
August 5th, 2013 at 1:34 pm
@WCBF
I live in Milpitas, CA. and the best I can do is to watch the progress of the football march up and down the filed on NFL.com.
August 5th, 2013 at 1:35 pm
Think im gonna have to go in on that pre-season package.
August 5th, 2013 at 1:37 pm
@robert
Lol whatever dude, troll on.
August 5th, 2013 at 1:51 pm
@Fritz50
Come on, now, Robert, you don’t seriously expect a 100 % completion rate , right ? You do know that this isn’t Madden, don’t you?
Yes he does expect 100% completion Fritz that’s what makes him robert. He will pick out anything and everytime Josh does something wrong. If Glennon (robert’s hero) screws up in pre-season I won’t go out of my way to nit pick like the child that robert is.

August 5th, 2013 at 1:59 pm
I’m excited to see how the two rookie corners play in game situations. Hopefully Melvin can end up being a hidden gem and provide some much needed depth.
August 5th, 2013 at 2:03 pm
Westcoast/Robert/Couch,
Be sure to point out that if the preseason game is blacked and you live in the local market area, you will only be able to view the game immediately following the live game from the preseason archives -24hrs if it’s a nationally-televised game.
Still a bargain especially if you want to see what our regular season opponents are looking like.
August 5th, 2013 at 2:09 pm
Hey Joe since I already have my WE BELIEVE IN JOSH banner made up. Do you think it would be okay to put in smaller letters the words JoeBucsfan.com near the bottom right corner? or Do they frown on advertising and what not? Because I’d like to give a shout out to the site.
August 5th, 2013 at 2:12 pm
Me to Erick. imagine going from scrubs (outside of Leonard) and thugs (wright) to having quality DB depth. Leonard we know has skills. Melvin sound TGTBT, and Banks sounds likes he’s ROLLIN’
and Revis OMG…even though we won’t see him preseason
jfro 6 pack soul glo bounce-a-lot Jackson should have a lot more opportunities as I forsee lots of picks!!!!
August 5th, 2013 at 2:14 pm
So you didn’t say how the 2 min drill ended. Details joe details.
Count your downs, Chris. –Joe
August 5th, 2013 at 2:16 pm
and no robert the banner does not say we believe in jfro 6 pack.
August 5th, 2013 at 2:17 pm
We keep reading about all our deep passes being completed, any short pass attempts? How about screens or passes to our backs. I am all for deep completions but WE need a good accurate short/middle passing game too.
August 5th, 2013 at 2:19 pm
accurate short/middle passes…..LOL
I needed that.
August 5th, 2013 at 2:20 pm
Lol @ Robert the racist troll ….pathetic
August 5th, 2013 at 2:20 pm
1987:
Yeah, that may get you in trouble, but thanks for the offer!
August 5th, 2013 at 2:21 pm
Thanks Macabee. Totally forgot about that.
August 5th, 2013 at 2:33 pm
I think Robert should make a sign that says “Start Glennon!” and stand right next to Bucs1987
August 5th, 2013 at 2:35 pm
nah…..Ima have them put “MARRY ME WALT” on the jumbotron
August 5th, 2013 at 2:37 pm
LMAO Couch Fan
August 5th, 2013 at 2:46 pm
lol
August 5th, 2013 at 3:07 pm
Ogletree and Freeman are having chestry problems. Timing is off, not to mention Ogletree isd dropping very catchable passes.
I’m leaning toward Owusu. Then Underwood and Eric Page.
August 5th, 2013 at 3:12 pm
No Buc1987 should wear one of those classic “I’m with Stupid” t-shirts while he’s standing next to robert.
August 5th, 2013 at 4:00 pm
Sounds like things are going well. I’m hearing the radio pundits talking about how we have ‘championship caliber’ talent on this team. I’d have to agree. We have Vjax, Williams, and Martin and the best O-line in the NFL. We have Revis, Goldson, David, Foster, McCoy, Barron, Clayborn, Bowers, etc. If Freeman continues to improve like I’m hearing he is in camp…..there is no limit to what this team can accomplish.
August 5th, 2013 at 4:13 pm
My shirt will say ” I hope F5 can keep us alive”. The back will say “until G8 starts playing great”.
August 5th, 2013 at 4:17 pm
Did anyone listen to Mike and Mike this morning. John Anderson predicted the Bucs to finish 5-11, and Golic’s dumbass had us at 6-10. I can’t wait to prove the national media wrong this season!
August 5th, 2013 at 5:44 pm
Fifth straight offseason/training camp championship.
Yes!!!!!!!!
August 5th, 2013 at 5:55 pm
Eric, I don’t even have to comment. You know you’re an asshole so we’re both on the same page as far as that’s concerned. As for the comment, no one has predicted the Bucs to win a championship the last 5 years. Actually, no one is predicting it this year either, the pundits said we had championship caliber talent (I believe for the first time in 10 years). I agree with their evaluation. If you don’t, explain why or just keep making asinine comments. Either way, your value to this board is non-existent.
August 5th, 2013 at 5:58 pm
Did anyone listen to Mike and Mike this morning. John Anderson predicted the Bucs to finish 5-11, and Golic’s dumbass had us at 6-10. I can’t wait to prove the national media wrong this season!
————————————————————–
And let’s just say for laughs the Bucs do finish 6-10… would that make you the dumbass then in that scenario?
August 5th, 2013 at 6:28 pm
Lighten up Bobby, you should be in a much better mood.
The long losing streaks and chasing nfl/franchise records for futility haven’t even started yet.
Delusional thinking can be fun!
August 5th, 2013 at 6:42 pm
@Couch Potato….If the Bucs finish 6-10 I will personally write “I am a dumbass” 1000 times and mail it to you. I have said a number of times I expect them to win the division. If they win the division will that make you a dumbass for being so down on them?
August 5th, 2013 at 6:44 pm
Im not down on them, im down on Freeman. Theres a difference….
But to answer your question I have NO problem admitting I’m wrong cuz that would mean that we are winning more games than losing. And thats ALL I want.
August 5th, 2013 at 7:09 pm
Does anyone know what channell the game will be televised on? If it is blacked out they normally show it at a later time, anyone know when and where, thanks.
August 5th, 2013 at 7:23 pm
The reason were predicted 5-11 and 6-10 is bc they know how much of a Jekyll and Hyde qb we have. I’ve hear Merrill hodge say it best. If josh freeman gains consistency they can win the division. However they haven’t seen it yet to be confident.
August 5th, 2013 at 7:50 pm
^^Agreed
August 5th, 2013 at 8:21 pm
grif,
Live broadcast, Thursday 7:30pm, Channel 8. If blacked out see link below.
https://www.joebucsfan.com/?p=93004
August 5th, 2013 at 8:25 pm
FYI,
Per Roy Cummings tweet, the game will definitely be blacked out!
August 5th, 2013 at 8:29 pm
Bobby Says
“…no one has predicted the Bucs to win a championship the last 5 years. Actually, no one is predicting it this year either…”
I am. For the first time in years. More realistically I think we make to the nfc game.
Chris Says
“The reason were predicted 5-11 and 6-10 is bc they know how much of a Jekyll and Hyde qb we have. I’ve hear Merrill hodge say it best. If josh freeman gains consistency they can win the division. However they haven’t seen it yet to be confident.”
That isn’t the only reason. They know we lost Miller and Bennett as well. They are assuming that because we did not address their positions in rounds 1-3 that we will be worse.
They haven’t attended any of the Bucs practices but they act like they have an inside scoop. It’s like the guy that said there was friction between Schiano and Freeman. He learned different when he actually came to town instead of listening to agenda driven rumor mongerers.
August 5th, 2013 at 8:37 pm
I refuse to buy tickets to a preseason game. I’m all for buying then in regular and post season…but not preseason.
The NFL needs to view preseason games as more of a promotional tool and not apply the blackout rules to them.
August 5th, 2013 at 8:41 pm
Holy crap I just unrolled my banner. I thought it was about 15 feet long. It’s more like 20 feet. My wife and I just tried to hold it up end to end, and the middle flops a lil too much. I’m definately going to be looking for a volunteer for the middle section. I guess just look for anyone wearing a #5 jersey is my plan and see if they want to help me out. The whole freaking stadium is going to see this sucker, and I only wanted to make it big enough for Freeman to see. The letters are like over 2 feet wide themselves. Massive banner!
August 5th, 2013 at 8:46 pm
I’m with you on that Bonzai I was just telling someone about that earlier. Saying you would think that they would allow teams to showcase themselves on TV in pre-season to sell more reg season tickets.
August 5th, 2013 at 8:48 pm
I also think season ticket holders should have FREE parking for pre-season games as well, but that’s a pipe dream I guess.
August 6th, 2013 at 6:06 am
Robert: You should have spent your $20.00 on a blow-up doll. Maybe it would improve your moods and be someone who could listen and agree to your nonsense.
