“Know For A Fact He Was Broke Up Over That”
August 5th, 2013Flying on Team Glazer’s chartered plane to Warren Sapp’s Hall of Fame ceremonies, former Buccaneers guard and Sapp teammate Ian Beckles (1990-1996) joined many fellow ex-Bucs in a strong show of solidarity by the organization for Sapp.
Sapp thanked and mentioned many former teammates and coaches during his Saturday speech, but he did not breathe the names Monte Kiffin or Rod Marinelli.
Speaking as co-host on his radio show this morning, Ron and Ian on WDAE-AM 620, Beckles said he ran into Marinelli in Canton and shared that Marinelli was hurt.
“I know for a fact he was broke up over that,” Beckles said. (You can hear Beckles’ full take on his Marinelli encounter and the Marinelli-Kiffin omission below.)
Joe can’t speak to Sapp’s personal relationships, and Sapp can thank — or not thank — whoever he wants publicly. On the surface, however, it seems Sapp intentionally blew off two guys who had big impacts on his career, especially considering Sapp praised Marinelli to ESPN hours earlier.

Yep no mention of Kiffin or Marinelli. Took the time out for about 2-3 minutes to give praise to is network crew though. Even though they had NOTHING to do with him getting into the Hall. Maybe he’s just arrogant enough to think it was all his doing? Could be, as that would be Sapp-like. I know I did hear him say if he forgot anyone he thanks them too. Dude you mentioned Eisen and the NFL AM crew? I really don’t think he has his head screwed on straight. I mean take his commentary for instance. Does it ever make any sense most of the time? Prior to the 2011 season he predicted Freeman was going to win NFL MVP. Again does he have his head screwed on straight, I dunno?

The man has no class and no humility. He’ll never change. Glad so many you admire someone who a significant amount of kids that were born out of wedlock and that because of his infatuation with material objects, has squandered most of his money. Pathetic.
August 5th, 2013 at 10:44 am
And another thing, if I’m ever at a podium thanking people for things in my life and my ex-wife is there.
I’ll thank her for being such a b*tch to me so that I could find a better woman. That’s just me. Sapp obviously still loves his ex.

I think Warren was trying to follow a scripted speech at the beginning, but as he went on he began to ad lib. I think he lost his place in his speech. I bet if we had a chance to read his prepared speech we would probably find a dedication to them both in there. I don’t think Warren would have purposely omitted Marinelli and Kiffin, except by accident.
August 5th, 2013 at 10:49 am
Hasn’t Sapp publicly stated his dislike of Kiffin many times, so why would he thank him, and I’m not usually one to stand-up for Sapp, but have you ever had to give a speech in front of a group of people who you not only respect but in many cases idolize, he may have just missed Marinelli’s name in his list, it happens. When I retired I forgot to thank my very first 1st Shirt, who was there in the room at my invite, this man kept me from getting the BCD my very first year in the AF and I still forgot to thank him publicly.

Glen I admire his skills. I could care less about his personal life. It’s none of my business or yours for that matter. You MUST be a liberal. Liberals get all caught up in everyone else’s business and like to tell people how they should live there life. My wife always tries to tell me what celebrities are doing. It drives me nuts, I could care less. It’s their life. Just like when some actor dies. I could care less I never knew them. Why do you care so much Glen?
Sapp is my favorite all time Buc PLAYER. Key word in caps.
August 5th, 2013 at 10:53 am
Right Junkie…and he still has time to make good on that when they retire his number. 99 FOREVER baby.
August 5th, 2013 at 10:56 am
I guess he did not like when Marinelli and Kiffen picked Booger over Sapp. Also Sapp and Kiffen did not get along for a long time. Since back when Kiffen wanted Sapp off the field on 3rd downs, Can you imagine! Funny how he did thanked Coach Gruden though.
August 5th, 2013 at 10:57 am
IDK, so a man can’t get caught up in the moment & forget someone/something, along the way? It has to be a vast global conspiracy by a scumbag, to deliberatly slight the deserving.
August 5th, 2013 at 11:00 am
I was little upset he didn’t mention us fans, but he kinda redeemed himself last night when he gave a shout out to tampa during the hall of fame game. that was good enough for me.
August 5th, 2013 at 11:00 am
I’m just saying Eisen over Kiffin? Really? Fritz50 maybe your right he was too caught up in the moment of mentioning Eisen, Kurt Warner and gang.
August 5th, 2013 at 11:04 am
I dont pretend to know all the inner workings of relationships or anything but what I do know is that most HOFers can’t possibly thank everyone in there speech… thats not to say Sapp didn’t intentionally leave anyone out but… c’mon? This is being a little to sensitive. It’s warren’s moment not any of anyone elses.
Should I be hurt to that he didnt thank me to for all those years of cheering him?
And Glen…. Sorry but when you stick your nose into someones personal life when you have no idea what you are talking about except an outsiders view… you sound like an ignorant idiot.
August 5th, 2013 at 11:13 am
Monte kept Booger and sent Sapp packing. To omit Rod was a sin of omission.
Warren ever the steaming pile of a human being.
August 5th, 2013 at 11:14 am
John Madden’s (roberts hero) speech. Went on and on and on. Mentioning player after player. Assistant coaches he worked with the speech was neverending. Mentions moments in games and what it was like. Neverending. Then he threw in a little brief mention about Summerall and that was it. Like 10 seconds or so. Just saying.
Sapp is STILL my all time favorite Buc though.
August 5th, 2013 at 11:17 am
No I don’t think he intentionally left people out though. I think they never crossed his mind in the first place.
August 5th, 2013 at 11:17 am
Ido not recall anyone thanking their position coaches, head coaches get all the credit, good or bad
August 5th, 2013 at 11:23 am
Out of sight out of mind! You remember the people you’re around on a daily basis, but it’s been years since he’s worked with either of them. Also the fact that they(Kiffin & Marinelli) are now working for America’s most hated team doesn’t help either.
August 5th, 2013 at 11:25 am
I watched the speech and when he said “I have three coaches to thank”, I thought Marinelli would be the thrid after Dungy and Gruden and I was surprised when he said “Art Shell”. With that said, I don’t think he intentionally left out Marinelli. If you noticed, his speech was pretty short and you could tell he was nervous. Give him the benefit of the doubt.
August 5th, 2013 at 11:44 am
^^^^ your probably right. I will say thats the first time Ive EVER seen Sapp visible nervous.
August 5th, 2013 at 11:47 am
The second Buc to be inducted in the HoF and people are picking apart his acceptance speech. That’s sad. I don’t remember too many other position coaches thanked during an acceptance speech. They thanked their GM and HCs and that was it. I’m proud 99 was on that stage, just damned proud.
August 5th, 2013 at 11:58 am
I’m looking forward to his Ring of Honor date this year. Not because I like him, but I’m hoping that after that the ASS goes away!
August 5th, 2013 at 12:01 pm
Of course he didn’t thank Kiffin. He’ll never forgive him for the defensive call that sent the Rams to the Super Bowl in 99′. He has publicly stated that he thinks the Bucs would’ve won their first Super Bowl that year if Kiffin did not call a blitz on the play that resulted in a Proehl TD. He ‘hated’ Kiffin and believed him to be a self-promoter, which is ironic coming from Sapp!
August 5th, 2013 at 12:25 pm
If Cris Carter can thank the guy who cut him, Sapp can thank the guys that relied on him and put him in position to go to the HOF. It speaks more to his character than anything else.
August 5th, 2013 at 12:25 pm
I have an old boss who likes to take credit for my success. he can kiss my a$$.
probably similar here. Sapp went against kiffin, was successful in spite of kiffin and made kiffin a household name……for which he was sent packing. don’t know the marinelli deal, but I certainly understand Sapp not giving a flying fart about thanking Kiffin.
August 5th, 2013 at 12:47 pm
Doesn’t surprise me that he left out Kiffin, if you read his book you will know that he doesn’t really like Kiffin. I am surprised however that he left out Marinelli. I have heard him praise Marinelli numerous times and basically credit him for making him the player that he was.
August 5th, 2013 at 1:03 pm
WTF is this Buccaneer TMZ now Joe? Who are we to nitpick a man’s HOF acceptance speech? This smells of teenage angst… “Oh I’m so upset, Johnny pretended I didn’t exist at lunch today! He walked right past me!”
This post is one that should embarrass the brain trust at Joe Bucs Fan.
August 5th, 2013 at 1:16 pm
Nope not a liberal. You must be because you support professional sports. Professional sports owners TAKE from the taxpayer. It’s socialism for Billionaires.
August 5th, 2013 at 1:23 pm
Get over it. You coach in the hopes your athletes succeed and if they are, you can take pride in his accomplishments. Being upset because he doesn’t mention you? Nah, just take pride in knowing you made a difference.
August 5th, 2013 at 1:25 pm
Do you even like football Glen?
August 5th, 2013 at 1:34 pm
Glen why do you bother coming in here then? It’s like walking into Outback Steakhouse and saying how can people eat this garbage? Why would even register your name if you don’t “support professional sports”? WTF kind of statement is that Glen seeing how you do have a registered name in here and all? Guess what side of the 50% I put Glen in people? It’s an easy one.
August 5th, 2013 at 2:47 pm
He thanked all those he “forgot to mention” at the end…
Get over it, he’s human and it happens.
Kiffin probably was never mentioned to begin with, he has beef against him.
August 5th, 2013 at 4:25 pm
The guy is near broke and kissing the ass of his current employer paying him $500k a year. Sapp has a lot of checks to write each month. The guy is one stupid comment away (any moment) from getting canned from that show and losing that gravy train.
he def could have found 2 seconds to thank those guys though. Me-shawn even got mentioned, albeit not positively.
August 5th, 2013 at 4:46 pm
Are you sure your handle shouldn’t be Buc1887….BC? Character does count for a lot and Sapp has Sapp has NONE. Apparently you don’t consider character in your relationships…I’d like to meet your wife….or mother for that matter..
August 5th, 2013 at 5:03 pm
Who are you to judge Sapp’s personal life? Do you know every intricate detail of what happened with him? No you dont, you are basing your opinion on something you really know nothing about.
EVEN if you are right, his character (unless he is a murder or thief or something along those lines) matters little on a football field.
Have you been so perfect your whole life that you can sit back and throw stones at other people? I seriously doubt it….
Judging people that you dont know personally is a bad character flaw as well…. I guess your character is pretty crappy as well.
