Four Or Five Teams Talking To Brooks
April 14th, 2009Bucs legend Derrick Brooks was upbeat and excited about his football future during an interview this morning with a self-confessed steroid abuser who hosts an AM drive time show on 620 WDAE-AM, The Sports Animal.
Brooks talked about getting close to signing with a contending team and also professed his respect and warm feelings towards Chucky.
Below is an excerpt: You can listen to the inteview here.
Lunkhead in the Morning: Where are we Derrick? How are you feeling about everything. Are you just still evaluating everything?
Derrick Brooks: “The only thing that has changed for me is where I’m working out. Instead of at One Buc Place, it’s at different places. .. .As far as the NFL goes, the four or five teams we’re talking to that are serious about signing me want to again continue to evaluate their situation through the draft and kind of see where I would be considered a final piece to their team in terms of making a championship run. That’s the seriousness of where I’m at in terms of football. … The respect thing, nobody wants to waste my time in terms of if they’re serious or not.
“At the same time they’re going to have to be serious if they’re going ot sign me. I want to win another championship. I don’t want to be part of a rebuilding process sort of thing. I undestand that. That’s perfectly fine. I’m just doing what I can to stay ready.”

Joe,
Thanks for putting that interview on your website. Again Derrick shows he’s nothing but class. Totally opposite from the owners of the Bucs. I hope he lands with a team and comes back to haunt the Bucs. In my humble opinion the only reason they cut him and the others were that they supported Gruden. The Glazer boys remind me of spoiled little kids that if you don’t agree with them they will take their toys and find someone else to play with. I predict that what comes around goes around and they have made a huge mistake that will probably set the Bucs franchise back 3 to 5 years depending on how long it takes them to admit their mistake. I pity the quarterback for the Bucs next year because it will be all his fault.
