“Don’t Get Him Shell-Shocked”
July 5th, 2013It’s rare than an annoying, overhyped New York Jets topic would have so much interest for Bucs fans. But the Bucs’ season-opener in two months is against Rex Ryan’s ugly club, so Joe is paying attention.
There’s loads of New York and national buzz these days about whether the Jets and their new west coast offense will start Mark Sanchez or rookie Geno Smith on opening day.
NFL Network attacked the topic this week, and both former Pro Bowl center Matt Birk and Brian Baldinger thought the Jets have to go with Sanchez. Birk implored the Jets to go easy on Smith, “Don’t get him shell-shocked,” Birk said, referring to demands of a Jets QB on and off the field.
Former Jets QB Ray Lucas and notorious Adam Schein have a different view in the SNY-TV video below. Lucas has no problem with Smith if he wins the job. Schein, a notorious Sanchez detractor, thinks the Jets’ new offense is perfect for Sanchez.
Joe would rather see Sanchez taking the snaps against the Bucs. Joe will take the known versus the unknown any day.

I agree, Sanchez is more apt to stay in the pocket compared to Smith, who being a rookie, might decide to run more often than throw.

Doesn’t matter. We’re going to destroy either one.

I will take a rookie in his first game as opposing QB any day.

Give me Sanchez, the proven failure, over the unknown Geno. Funny to see a quarterback drafted well ahead of Freeman who made it to back to back NFC Championship games is now on the cusp of being beat out by a second round pick. And some people think we have it bad.

We should not take the Jets for granted!
They have been no lower then 8th since 2009 in total defense in the NFL.
If they get an offense going, they could be real problems for any team.

As a buc fan and knowing how easily josh freeman can have a mark Sanchez esque implosion I’m not going to speak about who is rather line up against. If freeman plays well we win. No doubt about bc the rest will take care of itself.

@Chris….the Raiders had what the 3rd best rushing D coming into last years game? Doug Martin dismantled them. I want Sanchez to start. Revis prolly has all kinds of goodies to fill the Bucs in on.

Known against unknown is like selecting Myron Lewis over Banks….If the known is bad….go with the unknown.
Why not dip your toes in the water against the lowly Bucs….after all don’t we have such a bad team according to most.
I wonder what Shaun King thinks about this QB controversy?
“Shaun King, one of two Buc Quarterbacks that lost a NFC Championship Game when his defense gave up 11 or fewer points.”

If josh freeman gets his act together bucs are going places. If not, well hopefully we lose enough games for teddy Bridgewater.

Let’s see, jets are 9-1 vs. the Bucs over the years. We even got creamed by Joe Willie Namath in 76.
And their last trip here was a laughable disaster of grown men vs. boys.
But their over hyped? What does that make us?

The Bucs will not take the Jets lightly.
