Warren Sapp “Juvenile”

Warren Sapp knows how to stir the stick. And Joe loves that about him, especially in the weeks leading to training camp where football news is scant.
Recently, Sapp (again) went after former Giants defensive end and TV personality Michael Strahan for being, in so many words, overrated. Sapp slammed Strahan all while propping up former teammate Simeon Rice.
Yesterday, intern-loving Tiki Barber lashed out at Sapp for his war of words with Strahan.
Now it is pile-on time, as sports sheriff Gregg Doyel of CBSSports.com took Sapp to task for being classless.
Winning wasn’t enough for Warren Sapp. He wanted to elevate the Hall of Fame candidacy of Simeon Rice, which is a fine and noble thing to do, but he chose the most dishonorable way to do it, by knocking down Michael Strahan.
Sapp and Strahan have a history, see. A history of Sapp’s creation. He didn’t like the way Strahan set the single-season record for sacks on that infamous play in 2001 when unprotected Packers quarterback Brett Favre took a dive. Sapp has ripped Strahan several times for Favre’s dive, as if that was Strahan’s fault.
Doyel has a point. Sapp could have easily trumped Rice’s chances at the Pro Football Hall of Fame without suggesting Strahan was a bust and unworthy of Canton consideration.
Sapp has a right to be rankled about the Brett Favre dive; so is Joe. Rather than rag on Strahan for it, Sapp should call his good buddy Favre (they are friends) and ask Favre why he would pull such a stunt.
No matter what Sapp says or doesn’t say, he has scoreboard over Strahan. Sapp will have a bust in Canton in a few weeks. Strahan, for the time being, will have to pay to look at it.

I agree with Sapp. Strahan did not earn that record in my book.

I Agree with SOME of the statements Sapp made, not so sure I agree with his conclusion. But then, I don’t really have a dog in that hunt.

If I were Simeon, I don’t know if I would want the polarizing Warren Sapp centering all the attention on Strahan’s career, which is undeniably worthy of Canton, but rather than focusing the attention on me, by retelling my story to whoever will listen.
The more folks know about Simeon’s career, the more apt they are to keep him in the conversation.

I respect Sapp for all that he has done for this organization. I actually really enjoy him on NFL Network as well. This, however, is completely classless. You should never prop someone else up at the expense of someone else, especially years down the road. And for all those who will defend Sapp, imagine how you would feel had it been reversed and someone was downplaying Sapp’s (or anyone else for that matter) role on the team. It’s just not the right way to do things, and Sapp is old enough (and hopefully mature enough) to know better.

One of my favorite qualities about Rice was he beat to his own drummer. I highly doubt Rice gives a rats A$$ what anyone thinks of him and he probably is chuckling about the strahan and sapp feud.
Strahan is an attention grabbing me first TV personality and an Average Right Tackle.
I lost all respect for Brett Favre when he took the dive. Favre did regain my respect after scoring the new york jets massage therapists.

Wasn’t aware Michael Strahan played Right Tackle. I remember him as a DE, and to say he was average meant you never saw the man play a game. That’s ridiculous beyond words. Even though Favre took a dive to give him the record, he still had 21.5 legit sacks that season. If he was so “average”, why doesn’t everyone get sacks like that? And if you think it’s because he played the right side, then why don’t all RDE’s have 21.5 sacks per season? Although the RDE typically gets a lesser tackle than the LT, he is also attacking the QB where the QB can see him. So the QB sees him coming, yet still can’t avoid him.
But nah, you’re right, Strahan was average. 141 sacks (in 200 games) and 21FF’s is definitely an average career. I sure do wish we could find an average DE like Strahan.

Sapp is a jerk. He has always been.
With that said, he is right about Strahan. A tad bit overrated being that he is a huge media darling.

A LT is only important to a right handed QB..My point is what good is a LT to a lefty like Vick.
The point is you need 5 Olinemen and how many sacks you get has to be the scheme you play against. If you put a TE on the line for support or max protection nobodies gets a sack.
Off Topic: Joe I see you took my advice big guy. The morning cups have been a delight for months now. Looks like a Maxim calender shoot on JBF. I love it keep up the good work.

That’s a trick question. I wouldn’t want to change any players with what we had, because we won a Super Bowl. I loved Simeon Rice and thought he was the perfect player for our team. All that being said, Strahan was a better player than Rice. It’s tough for me to say and I would have never said that while their careers were active, but it’s true. The numbers don’t lie. Strahan was the leader of that defense (which also won a SB and got to another), Rice was not a leader.

As was pointed out by PFT, Reggie White also played on the left side (against the RT) the majority of his career. Anybody here want to argue that he wasn’t any good?

Sapp is who he is, loud, boisterous, obnoxious at times, and often doesn’t sound sincere. But would you really expect anything else from him. It isn’t like a sudden change.
How much do records really matter in the grand scheme anyway? I’d trade records for championships and wins any day. One of these days Warren may grow up and learn to take the high rode, but I doubt it.

As usual, Sapp is an asssss.
Simeon does need consideration and Strahan’s single season sack record was marred a little, but Sapp is still an asssszzzsszz.
From what I have seen, I would not be surprised to see Von Miller get that record anyway, especially if the Broncos are playing with leads

@Hawaiian Buc yah your right either or would have been just as good and Rice was basically a hired gun or another added piece to the puzzle.
Let me add this about Sapp. Warren Sapp is still my favorite Buc of all time and that will probably never change. His trash talking along with backing it up on the field made him my favorite. After so many years of being the NFL’s doormat, along comes Sapp. Running his mouth and taking down QB’s. He made me proud to be a Buc fan for once. For that I will always defend him.
