Source: Bucs Trade For Gabe Carimi
June 9th, 2013UPDATED 9:05 p.m. Perhaps all the recent Demar Dotson “catapulting” love comes with an asterisk.
Per the Chicago Sun Times, the Bucs have traded with the Bears for right tackle/right guard Gabe Carimi, a former first-round pick out of Wisconsin. BSPN claims the Bucs coughed up a sixth-round pick in 2014.
The Bears selected Carimi out of Wisconsin with the 29th overall selection in the 2011 draft. He was expected to be the Bears’ long-term solution at right tackle, but injuries derailed that.
Carimi started 10 games at right tackle last season and three at right guard. But despite all the playing time, he was never healthy after dislocating his right knee cap in Week 2 of the 2011 season and needing multiple surgeries.
Carimi did attend the Bears’ voluntary minicamp in April, saying that his main goal this offseason was getting back to 100 percent. He has been working with trainer LeCharles Bentley, a two-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman, in Arizona.
Of course, Joe (and everyone else) needs official confirmation of what the Bucs dealt for Carimi to assess the move — and Carimi has to pass a physical.
Carimi is scheduled to earn $1,016,458 in 2013, per Rotoworld.com.
All we can say now is that the Bucs have added an injured yet talented tackle/guard to their talent-laden offensive line. And Dotson just got some serious competition if Carimi can get healthy.

Schefter is saying a 6th rounder in 2014 on his twitter

Is this a stupid move? I really can’t say it is when we just have up a 6th round. But it does leave us with fewer picks for next year draft.
Still the depth is needed and here’s hope for him to actually compete for the RT spot.

6th round is not too bad. Hopefully Carimi can get to 100% healthy, if so it should be a good move to add competition at RT.

Great move for the future.
Nice pick up, very talented kid.
Let him rehab and get healthy and we will have a stud at RT for the future unless Dotson proves to be a bigger stud jaja,
IMO

He can also Guard….Im liking this as long as he’s healthy enough to play.

Boy it’s amazing how word has traveled in 5 minutes.
Joe, I’m thinking Carimi is a good to very good run blocker?

For a sixth rounder this is a great trade. Injuries have slowed him down and if he gets healthy then worst case he is depth at guard and right tackle. I have a feeling he will thrive in the bucs culture-remember last season they massively over achieved in spite of missing the 2 pro bowl beasts. Carimi definitely makes this team better than last year-compared to Trueblood. Are the Bears desperate for cap room? Seems Dom has fleeced them…….again.

I love the move for a 6th for a first. Let’s hope he can get healthy. Way to go!

Reunited….and it feels soo good with Bob Bostad. I like the move.

Our training staff is well versed in knee injuries, I’m liking this move a lot.

@JonBuc
Great point

Bostad had to give the thumbs up on this trade. And I’ll take Bostad’s opinion of an O-Lineman all day. If this guy is healthy, this was a good trade! Bostad knows this player very well from his days at Wisconsin! Go Bucs!

A lot of talk about the athleticism of Dotson, maybe a move to LT next season if Penn doesn’t shape up (not that he played bad) and Gabe at the RT, mmm
June 9th, 2013 at 9:38 pm
I think he’ll be moved to the other side as a backup because Penn is getting older. At 24, if he can make the change and get healthy he may end up replacing Penn down the road.
Depth at oline, regardless, is sorely needed. This is worth the risk.

Thers’s another side to this story and that’s pending Carimi’s physical, if cleared, somebody’s gotta get up outta here. With the additions of Mitchell and Demke last week, the Bucs are at the 90 man limit.

We just traded a sixth round pick for a first round that was selected only two years ago. Carimi might just excel as a back up. If he is healthy before the start of the season then he should even give Dotson a run for his money.

2words for you……Rock Star !

Joe I think you do not know much about Carimi except for his drafted slot, but if you watched him play, you would not be as excited as you seem. Yeah this is not a bad trade, but he will not last for 2 more years in the league if OT was his position.
I think Bob Bostad will make him a back up Guard at some point. He is very suited to it with his stone legs, but good strength to anchor poa.
