Revis, Goldson Pushing Secondary

Leonard Johnson could have jumped for joy he was so excited when he learned Darrelle Revis was coming to the Bucs.
Joe wrote yesterday that it was cool that both Darrelle Revis and Dashon Goldson, the big-time offseason additions to the Bucs’ secondary, were putting in extra work with Leonard Johnson and Danny Gorrer, doing tip drills and loose-ball drills after Tuesday’s OTA practice.
Joe hoped the two All-Pros would do that for the younger defensive backs, much like Vincent Jackson did last year for the Bucs’ young receivers, be a big brother and demonstrate what it takes to be elite.
Johnson said Wednesday that is exactly what Revis and Goldson are doing with the young DBs. Johnson said he has already seen a difference in the Bucs’ secondary.
And it is only the first week of June.
“It’s exciting to be out there. We are making a big improvement in the secondary. We are more supportive among the guys,” Johnson said at the christening of the new Tampa Bay Buccaneers Field in Clearwater. “I’m excited to get back into football shape and fine-tuning your craft and competing.”
A lot of the new attitude is coming straight from Revis and Goldson, Johnson noted.
“They love that they have younger guys eager to learn,” Johnson said. “Revis is phenomenal. I already have a relationship with him and Dashon. Words cannot explain how I feel about them in terms of what they do on the field and the steps they take to get their game to where they want it to be.
“I am just trying to follow in their footsteps.”
Some young players wouldn’t be so eager for a team to acquire a player at their position, largely considered to be the best in the league like Revis. That wasn’t the case with Johnson when he learned of rock star general manager Mark Dominik’s trade for Revis.
“I was very excited,” Johnson said. “Very excited.”

I’m glad he’s happy but for Leonards sake it’s a good thing Dom stopped at Revis and Goldson or Leonard and Danny could be on the outside looking in.

The Bucs are terrible. Freeman sucks. They should’ve signed a 35 year old John Abraham. The DB’s aren’t as good as you think. Playoffs or bust!!

This is a playoff team with the right bounces and better QB play from the player #5.
The additions of Gholson and Revis will pay so many dividends that aren’t quantitative. But the confidence and leadership that they bring is priceless and will have this team ready to become a factor really quick in the NFC.
It’s all on the player #5 or lost season.

^I always find it funny when someone misspells Goldson. What it usually ends up looking like is people praising Gholston the DE instead of Goldson the safety. I don’t think it is asking too much to learn how to spell your favorite teams player names. Especially the more elite ones like Goldson.
But enough of being a grammar nazi. I will be interested to see just how much of an impact the likes of Revis and Goldson have on the careers of LJ, Gorrer, Banks, Tandy, Gaitor, etc.

Only God himself could resurrect Myron Lewis’ career. No amount of Revis, Goldson or even Barber could help that poor man. (But apparently someone is watching out for him, he does still have a job somehow.)

Have no fear. Unless Myron’s play improves drastically this off season. I just see no way that he beats out 5 DBs to make the team. Revis, Wright, Banks, LJ, Gorrer, Gaitor. Thats 6 right there he wont beat.
I’ll be pretty PO’d if he beats out any of those guys to make this team.

No doubt when photos of Mark Dominik’s bald head, Realist will make mention that the odd shape of his head is proof that he doesn’t know how to draft.
