Busted!
May 29th, 2013Just prior to the draft, Deadspin.com ran an article from a telephone conversation between Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik and then-Buffalo general manager Buddy Nix.
The information was obtained from an illegal wiretap. Illegal, that is, unless you work for Eric Holder’s Justice Department, which has turned into a KGB-like outfit and is a stain upon this free nation.
Well, today, the culprits of the Dominik-Nix wiretap met the long arm of the federal government and were charged, reports WKBW-TV.
Plymouth, Mass. men were charged Wednesday with intentionally intercepting a wire communication and with making a telephone call without disclosing their identity with the intent to annoy or harass the person at the called number.
Attorneys say 20-year-old Joshua Barber and 20-year-old Nicholas Kaiser called the office of former Buffalo Bills General Manager Buddy Nix claiming to be Tampa Bay Buccaneers General Manager Mark Dominik.
Nix answered the telephone but there was no one on the line. Barber then called the office of Dominik claiming to be Nix.
The dirtbags (no, not THAT Dirtbag) then sold the illegally-obtained recordings to Deadspin.com.
If convicted, the two dopes face a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a $500,000, fine or both.
Joe hopes it is both. A-holes.

I know I’m probably in the minority here (and I would definitely feel differently had it done something to hurt the team), but I thought it was pretty damn funny. Obviously these guys have to pay a price, but 5 years is an awful long time for pulling a prank IMO. To me, a more appropriate punishment would be to take away their cell phones for 5 years. That would drive me absolutely crazy.
May 29th, 2013 at 8:01 pm
Joe…you obviously missed the Bush administration…maybe you were at the stadium or in the “clubs”? Something was passed called the Patriot Act. They have been able to tap your phones for years. So don’t think Holder just decided to run in a lawless fashion and things have been as they were for the last fifty years. A bill was presented to try to limit the govs. power in these areas, but someone wouldn’t pass it. I’ll let you guess who, and it wasn’t that Obama wouldn’t sign it.
Anyway…glad they got the bums that pulled that trick. Maybe an extended gray bar inn vacation will help them sort out the stupidity of their act.

Hawaiian,
I’m with you, it was hilarious. Funny how Joe never reported this when it happened. Good God, it’s just a couple of guys discussing a game played by grown men wearing tight pants. Not like they were exposing American secrets to Iran. These guys will get a year or two of probation tops.
May 29th, 2013 at 8:13 pm
I hope they can learn a lesson in all this but not have to face that term.
Young kids, pulling a prank, it would be sad to see their lives ruined like that.
May 29th, 2013 at 8:19 pm
@Hawaiin Buc
You are not alone. Whereas these two idiots deserve punishment, I seriously doubt they get a $500k fine and 5 years in prison. They will probably just get some fines and probation. Which seems fair, maybe I am old fashioned (only 29) but I would like to think these were just two dumbasses trying to make a name for themselves. If they turn out to be hackers, then sure throw the book at them.
May 29th, 2013 at 8:23 pm
Guys, that is the maximum penalty.
I guess we will have to wait to see where it all ends up, but I’d think their motives and history would have alot to do with the actual sentence.
May 29th, 2013 at 8:25 pm
Sounds like something Richard and Sal would do.
And if you have to ask….
May 29th, 2013 at 8:53 pm
a 500k fine and 5 years in club fed for pulling one of the most childish pranks ever… and our great blogger has the audacity to use the term, “free nation” as if it’s something to be proud about. you’re the real joke here.
May 29th, 2013 at 9:18 pm
@ mark2001
ah… the good ol’ patriot act that allows the government to listen in on all of our phone conversations so that they can, as they put it, “protect us from terrorists.” I find it a bit hypocritically that the government can invade our privacy but the average citizen cannot, even if it is for the sake of national security.
alright thats enough politics from me. the fact is they broke the law and deserve to be punished, although 5 years does seem a bit much. I doubt they get anywhere near 5 years though. most likely a hefty fine, especially if they are first time offenders.

mark2001 Says
Learn the facts please. They cannot “tap” your phone under the Patriot Act. A computer program monitors words. If several key words are heard on a call FROM a “country of interest” (think Saudi, Iran, Iraq, etc…) they can then record it.
They are not allowed to record any call within the USA between it’s own citizens.
Of course they are probably breaking some of these laws and, like Joe said, under Holder it has become KGB like. They are forcing phone companies to give up recordings of ALL calls, even those between you and Grandma. They have had private meetings to coerce the press in what they write. They have tried to charge journalist recently for obtaining classified info (nothing illegal about that, it is illegal for the person giving it). They had Fast & Furious and now it appears a hand in directing the IRS as to who they should harrass.
Basically Holder and some others will be the fall guys, but there is enough here and enough building to impeach the loser in the office right now.
BUT, alas, it won’t happen because that would be “racist” and because the press is so in the bag for him they are barely reporting half the crimes going on.
I mean the man has ordered the death of American citizens by drone attacks 4 times… and not many seem to care. WOW. Not to mention the 307+ drone attacks counting for over 6500 hundred dead with LOW estimates stating the “collateral damage” around 25%.
Bottom line is, if the press were to actually report what has taken place the last 5 years like they reported every sneeze with Bush…. the man would be impeached , well, most likely he would never have even sniffed another 4 years if it were an even playing field.
I digress……
GO BUCS
May 29th, 2013 at 10:17 pm
These kids may have done a mildly reckless thing but what 20 year olds don’t. They should not have proverbial book thrown at them for a relatively harmless prank. They are almost certainly never going to do anything fun again with the scare they are facing now.
As a bucs fan I come here to read about all things bucs. I don’t come here to read ignorant political statements like “Eric Holder’s Justice Department, which has turned into a KGB-like outfit and is a stain upon this free nation.” There are plenty of other outlets for that sort of thing. Thanks.
May 29th, 2013 at 10:17 pm
I also agree with Mr. Hawaiian.
Just a prank. And it’s funny as hell.
May 29th, 2013 at 10:21 pm
Dave,
Bush should have been impeached as a result of the Iraq shenanigans. How many lives have we lost as a result of his lies and incompetence? And you know as well as I do that Iraq could blow up in the next few years, and all the blood and treasure will be down the drain. You can’t impeach a President because you don’t like the way he does his job. Is Obama a great President…no. But Mitt would have been a disaster and you could have basically written off US industry, and the middle class, had he been elected.
The Patriot act opened the ball game on these abuses. I think Holder should go. But let’s not forget where it started. And don’t think there aren’t records of abuse under the law dating back years. FNF…pretty good one, considering 40% of weapons purchased in the US are done without background checks. They could have just as easily purchased about a thousand AR-15’s and had a technician convert them to automatic weapons. Where is the outrage in the ability to do that?
Anyway…we can agree to disagree. Go Bucs.
May 29th, 2013 at 10:23 pm
Maybe that’s how the Talib trade happened and they were too embarrassed to admit it. I heard someone called Shaun King and claimed he was Colonel Sanders!!!
May 29th, 2013 at 10:40 pm
Maybe Biden warns the press then Holder can anthrax them.
May 29th, 2013 at 10:44 pm
I HATE politics, football please
May 29th, 2013 at 11:14 pm
With all the criminal shenanigans oozing out of DC it almost makes one long for the days of Watergate, which was child’s play in comparison.
May 29th, 2013 at 11:15 pm
Joe,
You invite this forum.
You and the Holders should get a beer sometime, too. I hope you don’t have anything against Noddy.
May 29th, 2013 at 11:53 pm
So you hope some dumb kids who prank called two football GMs get 5 years in federal prison and a $500k fine.
But also, in your opinion, Eric Holder’s Justice Department is a KGB-like outfit.
Stop watching Fox News.
Signed,
Sane people everywhere.
May 30th, 2013 at 12:08 am
This is just awful. Those kids should be set free. This opinionated turd journalism has got to go. Turn off 970 next time you write good buddy.
May 30th, 2013 at 12:18 am
Are you kidding me Joe? you want two 20 year old’s to get 5 years in prison and ALSO a $500,000 fine for a PRANK CALL? that’s a pathetic punishment, pathetic by you to say you want them to deserve both. these 20 year old’s DO NOT deserve to get 5 years of there life taken away from them and then be in debt for the rest of there lives, OVER A GOD DAMN PRANK CALL. I’d say a one month prison sentence and a 1,000$ fine would be good, but honestly smarten up..
May 30th, 2013 at 12:50 am
Come on guys dont you remember the Jerky Boys.. This is the same thing.. I thought it was pretty funny actually..
May 30th, 2013 at 4:32 am
OK, the kids shouldn’t have done what they did and probably had no idea they could pull it off when they first hatched the idea. But as far as I’m concerned there are far worse things for Big Brother to patrol. Funny line about Shaun King who looks like he might get a call from the producers of The Biggest Loser soon.
May 30th, 2013 at 9:33 am
I agree Hawaiian Buc, I thought it was funny as hell too.
They will get probation probably, they are just kids.
May 30th, 2013 at 10:55 am
lightningbuc Says:
“Funny how Joe never reported this when it happened.”
He did report it when it happened.
May 30th, 2013 at 10:57 am
While on the surface it seemed funny, it really wasn’t. Privacy is an important thing in this country. I wouldn’t like it if it happened to me. Would you? Especially if it had the potential to get you into trouble?
May 30th, 2013 at 11:04 am
This is why we have this idiot in office right now. Sane people see the truth and insane people make up 51% of the country. Sad. How is Holder NOT like a KGB operation? I can tell when someone is a kid and not an adult just by the way they post. Brainwashed idiots. FOX is the last true bastion of the other side of the news. They filter the BS from the statehouse media. Oh yeah…..Go Bucs.
May 30th, 2013 at 11:08 am
By the way, these guys aren’t gonna get any time but I’ll bet that’s the last time they pull a stunt like that. They should get a fine and maybe 90 days in jail. That would be appropriate.
May 30th, 2013 at 12:12 pm
From some of the above comments, I understand more the reasoning of other posts. Isn’t it funny that someone even blamed Bush? Now; back to F-O-O-T-B-A-L-L!
May 30th, 2013 at 1:37 pm
I was happy this leaked out, gave us some insight into what GM’s think. Also forget the One Buc Nazi PR squad….no fun league. They removed the interview with Connor Barth…..
May 30th, 2013 at 1:38 pm
Also i’m almost positive the Joe who posted this must be the racist one who hates the NBA
