William Gholston Determined
May 4th, 2013Just talking to new Bucs defensive end William Gholston, the Michigan State product was just chomping at the proverbial bit in order to prove himself worthy of a fourth-round pick and a spot on the Bucs’ 53-man roster come September.
During a quarterback rushing drill today, a staffer on the Bucs’ football operations staff, Dan Shamash, played quarterback. Once a defensive lineman got past the offensive linemen (no pads, just helmets) a whistle was blown and the play stopped.
That wasn’t enough for Gholston. In a scene that could have been pulled from “The Replacements,” Gholston beat his man, and played through the whistle, sacking Shamash.
Joe can honestly say he had never seen a player bury a coach on a practice field.
Asked about Gholston getting physical with a member of his staff after practice, Bucs coach Greg Schiano smiled and said he liked the effort but, “I’m not sure the quarterback liked it.”
After his sack, on a subsequent play, Gholston again beat his man again and instead of dropping Shamash to the dirt, he just grabbed his shoulders.

Trying to make a name for himself I see. Can’t wait until the pads go on so I can see how he do against the likes of Carl Nicks, Davin Joseph, and Donald Penn. There’s no bull rushing those guys he has to learn moves.

Listening to non Tampa draft “experts” the skinny on this guy is that he is built like Tarzan, but plays like Jane. he has the physical talent to be a mid-to late first round pick, but he slipped because he under performs on the field.
I hope he proves all of the nay sayers wrong.

This is a good sign. He has been closely compared to his cousin who was a notorious bust because of lack of effort. Maybe this comparison has lit a fire under him. I like it, but he still has a lot to prove.

Talent without the will to use it (determination) will get you nowhere in any professional sport, sounds like hes learned from his cousins mistake.

Gotta admit. I’m impressed by both DEs we drafted. I like the depth and talent. Not trying to get too optimistic because it against other rookies. But, man… Mean get to bag at the 3 one thousand count in the Bucs video just like his did often in his highlight. Gholston doing is his thing. I can’t help but think that Te’o Nesheim need to bring it throughout this offseason if he want to stay.

I wish him all the luck in the world. He seems to be a great kid, but has anyone seen any highlights of this guy where he actually dominates someone and makes a great play or two?
