Bucs Will Retire No. 99
May 2nd, 2013Team Glazer, specifically Bryan Glazer, added a bonus to Warren Sapp entering into the Buccaneers the Ring of Honor, as the Bucs made Sapp’s induction official today at One Buc Palace.
First, it will be Warren Sapp Night on Monday Night Football, when the Bucs host the Dolphins. But Team Glazer also will officially retire No. 99.
It’s been pretty clear that was on the horizon, as nobody has worn that number since Sapp left football, much like no Buccaneer has worn the hallowed No. 55.
As for the Monday night festivities, that should be a hell of a night. Sapp’s energy and the alcohol lubrication that comes with a night game should make it feel like the ol’ days on Dale Mabry. Also, the Monday game frees up both Tony Dungy and Jon Gruden to attend.

20, 40, 47 and 55 will all get their ring of honor turn and probable retiring of their jersey numbers. 55 will happen next year after his HOF induction.

I’m sure no one would want that number anyway.
Big shoes, impossible to fill.

As much as I value Lynch, Alstott, and Barber, I’d only retire numbers if the player makes it to the Hall.

20, 40 and 47 won’t be getting their jerseys retired. Sapp is the last DT to lead the league in sacks. Prior to that was Reggie White, who lined up more at DE when he did it. He’s on par with the other greats at his position with the likes of Joe green, Bob Lily, Allen Page, Etc.

I agree w/ Charlie B. Alstott is my all time favorite Buc but don’t see his number being retired. Barber and Lynch are long shots as well for retired numbers, but all 3 will no doubt some day be in the ring.

Well deserved. Maybe now the Buccaneers will have Sapp jerseys on their website. Get rid of the Cadillac Williams and Chris Sims jerseys

I wish the would “retire” the pop-star

I think it’s becoming evident that there are two “levels” to the ROH. The first level is having your name in the Ring. The next is getting your number retired. I think the number retiring is going to reserved for the HOFers.
I think you’ll see 55 and 20 join 99 and 63. 47 maybe. I don’t think 40 has a realistic shot (just for lack of numbers).

will they wear the old school uniforms for that game as well?????????

@mike
Assuming his Ring of Honor induction and number retirement happen in the same game I think they always do throwback uniforms at the Ring of Honor games.

They did throwback on the 1st 3 ROH inductees cause they were all from the orange era. Last years Gruber ceremony was not throwback cause Paul did wear the red and pewter.
