Bucs Select Running Back Mike James
April 27th, 2013In a truly shocking development, midway through the sixth round of the 2013 draft, there have only been two Miami Hurricanes drafted.
One of them by the Bucs.
In the sixth round, with a pick from Bill Belicheat in return for LeGarrette Blount, the Bucs moved up to select Miami running back Mike James.
Though James shared carries with the Canes this season, he fared well, rushing for 621 yards on 147 carries, over four yards a carry.
James, a Polk County native, is also a good receiver out of the backfield averaging over 10 yards a catch.

i guess now we see why we wanted a 7th from the Pats.
I’m still hoping for a TE in the 7th.

From nfl website, on MJ;
WEAKNESSES Not a burner, won’t break off many big runs. Initial explosiveness is only average. Vision isn’t great, fill miss open running lanes. Will find himself on his tippy-toes dancing in the backfield too much for a runner of his size.”
Sound like anyone we might just have said goodbye to…??

Celly – we have a buch of 7th round type TE’s on the roster already. Add some OL depth
April 27th, 2013 at 4:48 pm
Kerwynn Williams 5’8″ 195 Utah St. Much better prospect IMO
April 27th, 2013 at 4:51 pm
Joe, I think you meant well into the sixth and next to last round. The seventh round hasn’t started yet.
April 27th, 2013 at 4:51 pm
UK Buc it sounds like we just drafted a clone of our QB and a clone backup RB?
April 27th, 2013 at 4:51 pm
He is just a better receiver than Blount.
April 27th, 2013 at 4:51 pm
Joe – he was a 6th rounder
April 27th, 2013 at 4:51 pm
It’s too bad Ellington got snagged before our pick.

Cmp foddr i the hopes of striking gold.

STRENGTHS Powerful build, with a thick lower half. Runs behind his pads, and keeps his legs churning on contact. Fights for the extra yard, often falls forward. Tough to bring down with arm tackles. Patient runner, always his blocks to develop. Light feet, and surprising agility. Runs with balance. Good blocker, can contribute on special teams.
Just like the weakness sounds like Blount he strengths souns like Martin…

I am a U fan, Milke James is good, tough, reliable runner and can catch out of backfield, but gave up a draft pick, no OL taken, mmmmm
April 27th, 2013 at 4:57 pm
What did we give trade to move up?
April 27th, 2013 at 5:00 pm
I’m sure Joe meant the Bucs used the 7th round pick they got from New England to move up in the 6th. You guys are harsh.

Mike James ….bench press. 225-28 times Ran. 4.4 forty. And weighs 223 lbs
April 27th, 2013 at 5:00 pm
There’s your insurance!!!
This guy is a beast and can do it all, it’s gonna be nasty 1-2 punch.
It’s all about The U 😉

Camp fodder my arse
April 27th, 2013 at 5:03 pm
I’m a Hurricanes fan also and I have to agree with rrsrq. Mike James is a good reliable running back and was one of the leaders on offense this year. Mike James basically beat Georgia Tech by himself with a 4 TD performance which included a TD catch to send the game into overtime and then the winning TD run in overtime.

No more picks. No OL and TEs? I guess we will bring some in as undrafted FA.
April 27th, 2013 at 5:12 pm
I hate whiney Buc fans. 🙂
April 27th, 2013 at 5:17 pm
Whhhhaaaaaaa! Blount got traded. Whhhhaaaaaa!
April 27th, 2013 at 5:20 pm
seems like they want guys as backups to fit a mold. this way they can jump right in to the way the system is run already…e.g. glennon at qb, james at rb
April 27th, 2013 at 5:25 pm
Scotty,
As Joe reported, the Bucs moved up in the 6th trading the 7th they got in the Blount trade to do so!

@Bucs Fan #238
The Hugh Culverhouse years would have drove you insane bro…Lol
April 27th, 2013 at 5:41 pm
No… the old Buc fans took it in stride. They expected the worst and laughed and made jokes about the follies.
Today, their are nothing but a bunch of dramatic, twitter-jerk, whiney little b!t3hes making comments asif they are going to influence the organization’s moves.

Everyone just expressing their opinions here good or bad. Glad to see passionate fans again. Hopefully they will attend the games with us.
GO BUCS! 1976-to-Infinity!!!

Demps isn’t going to quit football:
“Jeff is going to do both football and track, and there are teams that won’t have a problem with that” Daniel Rose, Demps agent.
The Bucs must be one of them.

Mike James is intriguing. He looks pretty well rouded, and moves well for a bigger back. I honestly didn’t like the Glennon pick and I wasn’t sure how I felt about Akeem Spence at first (would’ve preferred DT Brandon Williams and OL Barrett Jones instead in those spots)…but I trust Dominik and Schiano to build this team properly.
Btw I am completely stunned that Jordan Poyer made it all the way down to the 7th round. It reached the point where I was praying he would drop all the way out so we could sign him after the draft lol. That kid is a pure football player, and he’s going to have a SERIOUS chip on his shoulder now.
April 27th, 2013 at 6:41 pm
All those who want OL and TEs
We had 2 guards start for Half the season last year ……..
So we have some depth there and I’m sure they can get a decent to good backup tackle
And we have 2 big TEs who are ripe to shine and 3 or 4 more to back them up
Everyone can’t be pro bowlers LOL
I really like this draft and the moves they made
Not as great as last year, but if you count revis it could turn out as good or even better
I’m login it

Any Canes fan will back up this kid because of his work ethic, leadership and overall intangibles. He’s not a Blount clone or anything remotely close to that. He’s an Earnest “insurance” Graham clone who will pass protect, catch out of the backfield, play special teams, and even play FB if we need. He will do anything that’s asked with a huge smile on his face…selfless player and a great guy to have in the locker room.
I sense the end of Michael Smith’s Buc career unless he proves himself as a dominant return man.
