Bucs Don’t Like Insurance

Exactly who will carry the load in the desired run-first Bucs offense behind three Pro Bowl offensive lineman if Doug Martin goes down?
Well, it won’t be LeGarrette Blount, and Joe is no fan of his trade to New England. Blount is now a Patriot, as Joe documented below.
Raheem Morris loved having the man he nicknamed “Insurance” Graham available in his backfield stable, but it seems the New Schiano Order has no use for Blount’s mad skills — or any proven insurance at the position.
Keeping Blount for the final year of his inexpensive contract would have represented a win-now style move, giving the Bucs a backup who can be a true No. 1 back if Martin was lost for weeks or — gasp — for the playoffs.
The Bucs brass is always talking about making moves to make the team better. Joe’s not seeing that here. The way the Bucs have approached the offseason, it’s hard to imagine why they didn’t want to protect themselves and be as dangerous as possible come December.
Yesterday, Greg Schiano told media with a big smile on his face that new cornerback Johnthan Banks, the Bucs second round pick, “is one of us.” Apparently, Blount was not.

Remember, blount was still an undrafted FA. I’m sure Dominik feels like he has someone he can grab during the “second” draft.

Please, Joe. Blount was a UDFA. They can find another RB to contribute. Maybe the new RB won’t tip our play call due to their ineptitude in the passing game. Perhaps they might actually be a decent short-yardage back, too.

How freaking STUPID beyond belief this trade of Blount was.
It is good for Blount, who will now start and run all over the AFC, but it was a incredibly stupid move by us.

In fairness to Blount and his career we’ll find a way to have insurance against Martin getting injured. There was no point to continue to hold on to him if we weren’t able to use him.

Absolutely no way he starts in New England over Ridley and Vereen. And the Patriots throw the ball a ton. Exactly how does Blount fit in New England? He is not the greatest in the passing game

Can’t blame a coach for getting rid of players who just don’t fit their style. Nothing wrong with that. It’s Schiano’s team after all, not ours.

Man I’ve never seen so many people cry over a 250 back who thinks Darren Spoles lol. I used to like Blount but I have a low tolerance for somebody that big that you can’t rely on on 4th and inches. I wish him luck but we don’t need a big guy that’s going to dance around we need one that’s plowing thru the hole every single time. Peace out Blount

Sad day. So enjoyed watching him run. Shame this staff couldn’t find a way to utilize his skill set. Old school get better with each carry kinda guy. Good Luck Blount.

veteran RBs are cut all the time. And theres about to be some after this draft. Starks from GB is about to get cut. Ced benson is begging for a job and on and on and on…we’ll have a good backup. For cheap!

They really didn’t like Blount…I think they would have cut him if the didn’t trade him. I am sure they have shopped him to everyone and no team wanted him….at least we got something.

@Snook – Leonard has no 1,000 yard seasons, like Blount had in limited starts. And where’s any evidence Blount is lazy. The guy came into camp in incredible shape last season.

Lil Napolean cant figure out how to use a back that averaged over 5 yards a carry and gained over 1000 yards with a ragtag oline. Blount will be a major player for the Pats in their yearly quest for the Super Bowl as we try to get a win in the playoffs for the first time in over a decade. Good luck LGB!

Horrible move. RB was the ONE position on the team that had two legitimate starters. He took the Bucs one position of true depth and blew it up.

I like the Banks pic, but they should have stopped there. Gholston may have great talent, but so did his brother and they appear to be cut from the same cloth from what his reviews claim. Means isn’t even rated in most of the redraft reports. And trading Blount for a 7th rd pic is a waste

If you havent figured it out yet Schiano has a philosophy. Fill the team with players that have talent AND put the TEAM first, before themselves. People can say Blount had a good attitude all year all they want but they don’t know the attitude behind closed doors (nor do bloggers). I will trust Schiano’s opinion over any that reside here or elsewhere.

I have to say, I am not on board with this move either. Surely Blount was worth more to us than a seventh round pick and a kick returner that doesn’t like football?
You could look at the value I guess. He turned an UDFA into a seventh round pick. Not much to be excited about though if you ask me.
I felt really comfortable with a starting caliber running back on the roster in case something happens to the Dougernaut. Dom must know something we don’t (or I at least hope he does.) I have faith that the backup runningback position will be solidified before preseason but I am nervous now.

I’m almost certain Blount and his Agent demanded a trade. This was not all on Schiano. Players want to play and it was obvious he didn’t fit this system any longer. It business not personal and it goes both ways.

also, blount had 3 chances from the 1 yard line to punch it in and he couldn’t. bad blocker, poor goal-line performances, and fumbles late in his career. also, we save $1 million.

This was a bad move. Chris Ivory, who I compare to Blount, was traded for a 4th. We had to give away a pick just to get rid of Blount. Would’ve been better to just cut him then pick up Demps on waivers.
I can’t figure out why, but the Pats have had us over a barrel for the past few years.
