Banks Pick Shows Confidence In Defensive Line

The Bucs’ selection of former Mississippi State stud cornerback Johnthan Banks in the second round is definitely a backhanded vote of confidence for the Bucs’ defensive line — and a statement of the team’s priorities on defense.
Rockstar general manager Mark Dominik and Greg Schiano must really have faith that Da’Quan Bowers, Adrian Clayborn, Derek Landri, Gerald McCoy, Gary Gibson and Daniel Te’o-Nesheim will get to the passer and make everyone forget Michael Bennett and run-stuffer Roy Miller.
Schiano said he expects Bowers to be a double-digit sack guy, and Dominik said Darrelle Revis will cause quarterbacks to “pause,” which will create sacks. These guys must really mean it.
Sure, the Bucs likely will use the middle rounds to bring in defensive line talent, but that’s still not a premium pick(s).
Schiano loves coaching defensive backs with a very hands-on approach, like he did with the Chicago Bears. Now he’s a got another talented one to coach up.

I really feel that the Bucs should go after the Honey Badger if he continues to fall. We gotta remember Wright is most likely one and done. Under Revis’ tutelage he could thrive. Would have been a top five pick without his problems.

Actually, this selection may reflect the DT, & possibly DE, depth in this draft class.

Honey Badger isn’t “falling”. He was never going to be picked before the 4th round. He’s not better than that.

Mike J I think you are right. There is a TON of DT and DE, with not a lot of talent drop off, or so the experts say. Now with 4 TE’s off the board, do they reach for one now?

I know we don’t need it right now but I am looking and Keenan Allen a very good WR that was once projected to be in the first round is still available and we will have to develop a future #1 WR with Vincent Jackson getting up there in age.
