Matty Ice Already Concerned With Darrelle Revis
April 24th, 2013News of Jets star cornerback Darrelle Revis in Tampa over the weekend for a physical and an eventual trade made waves in the area not seen outside of a tropical storm.
Well, the rumblings are now being felt in other areas of the NFC South. Tuesday, Dixie Chicks star quarterback “Matty Ice,” Matt Ryan, appeared on NFL Network and was asked about Revis on the Bucs.
Let’s just say Revis now has the full attention of Matty Ice.
“He is a great player, he really is,” Ryan said. “He is one of the best if not the best in the NFL. He will make our jobs even tougher. [The Bucs] already have a solid defense. The addition of Darrelle makes them even tougher. It’s a good pickup. Makes our division even tougher.”
As Joe has written previously, the one player that Drew Brees and Cam Newton and Matty Ice are going to learn so much about that they can recite their high school stats in their sleep will be Eric Wright.
If Revis is remotely the player he was before his ACL injury, quarterbacks are not going to throw to his side. Rather, they are going to pick on Wright. If Brees or Newton or Ryan put up 35 passes against the Bucs, Joe is confident you can lay a week’s paycheck that 15 of those passes are going to be thrown at Wright.

Looks like the Goldson pickup was a timely one. Wright should be grateful.

BTW, Joe, Wanted to add, Revis will be tested early and often until he proves his health is not an issue.
April 24th, 2013 at 9:29 am
I dare Matty Choke, Drew Please, and Fig Newton to throw the ball on that side of the field,

With Revis the defense has the ability to roll safety help over the top to the other side. Barron or Goldson can help Wright with whoever he is covering and the underneath routes can be filtered with the LBs.
Revis opens the defense to so many possibilities!

I laughed out loud when he said this part in his interview:
“[The Bucs] already have a solid defense.”
He’s gonna have to hold onto the ball a half-second longer and AJCLAY’s gonna steamroll him! Can’t wait!
April 24th, 2013 at 9:35 am
Wright will get help from Goldson…..I think the “testing” of Revis will be long over with by the time Matty’s turn arrives.
I don’t think Sanchez will be testing him.
April 24th, 2013 at 9:35 am
Biff, Wright and Goldson are close friends. In fact, Goldson is the biggest reason Wright was so willing to take so little money. So yeah, I think he is happy Goldson is here…but I see your point.
April 24th, 2013 at 9:37 am
We can only hope Sanchez tests him!

@ GenocideD
As far as Matty Ice is concerned the Bucs already did have a solid defense. Last year the Falcons only averaged 20.5 points a game vs the Bucs, and Matty Ice threw didnt thro for 300 yards in either game. We add Goldson and in addition by subtraction with EJ Biggers we already had a better defense than last year. Throw in Revis, he has a good reson to be concerned.

Put Juilo on an “island” and worry about White and Tony.
April 24th, 2013 at 9:53 am
He should be more concerned with Goldson and Barron this season. Afterall, Checkdown Matty always throws to Tony Gonzalez on 3rd down anyways. We’ve got to put a stop to that. TG on 3rd down is the key to the Falcons offense. Wish he would’ve retired- The Falcons need TG to move the chains consistently.

Hey I am seeing reports everywhere teams in the top 12 want to trade down think Dom will move up The price can’t be high with 5-8 teams want to trade down we can grab Milner have a real fearsome four or can grab a great DT
April 24th, 2013 at 9:59 am
If Dom trades back into the first round for a CB it means Trufant slipped into the 20’s, otherwise I don’t see that scenario happening.

@ J2.0
I was at that first Falcons game. Fair to say the offense left 20 points on the field. Matty Ice had little to do on that win.
@Bonzai
Knew this about the previous connection between Wright and Goldson. Point is, in man press, Wright’s island will need an All Pro gunboat helping patrol it’s waters. Hope some chemistry translates to the field.

What makes Revis so great?

That trade would take at least 3 of this years picks or our next years first.
April 24th, 2013 at 10:17 am
If we trade back into the first it will NOT be for a CB. It will be to grab Zach Ertz. We won’t trade back high enough to get Eifert but I know they would love to have Ertz. He, or someone like him, is the missing piece of the puzzle for the offense. If we don’t get him then Atlanta will. Mark my words, Atlanta is going to target Ertz so we would need to move up to the mid to high 20’s to get him. Price may be too high but that’s when dangling some draft picks AND Blount may become an option. We’ll see how it pans out but I know the Bucs want that guy.

@Buc Fan #238
His technique and the difficulties of getting of the line in press coverage. He doesn’t seem so fast, but its hard to beat him off line and even worst to beat him deep. Given the fact that he only had 8 TD passes on him since 2008 or 09, our CB’s last year had that on 2 games.
April 24th, 2013 at 10:18 am
Sneedy I would usually agree but with up to 8 out 12 teams wanting to trade price can’t be that high maybe our 2,4 and 7? Just a thought I also read jets want out of the 13 pick too if someone like star falls to the mid teens early 20’s might see something
April 24th, 2013 at 10:18 am
@Sunny
We see these mind games every draft.
But if were to be true, all the teams wanting to trade down tells me there is more value where we are at.
Please do not reach Dom unless it’s for @5 year starter. Let’s stay true to our board.

Milner , star, richerson, elfert,all the 5 year starters

If we were going to trade Blount for picks this year, would he not have to have a physical with said team before day 2-3 of the draft regardless if he was injured last year or not ala Revis?

Is that a serious question?

April 24th, 2013 at 3:06 pm
Lets hope out of those 15 passes @ Wright he only allows 6-7 completions & 0 TD’s

Tom Brady

I think there’s a better chance of us getting Kelce later in the draft than to trade up for Eifert or Ertz.
April 24th, 2013 at 6:16 pm
@Celly
I agree that Travis Kelce is an option too. He can block and catch and that is what we’re looking for. Plus his brother is a center for the Eagles so he has a good bloodline. Wouldn’t be disappointed at all with that pick and we could probably get him in the second if we wanted to. I don’t think he’ll go in the first. We could probably trade down in the second and still get him. He is a beast of a blocker and I know Schiano is looking for that.

This is a crap post. Concerned? He is expressing respect like any other NFL player would without taking anything away from Revis. Come on. The guy is hasnt played in a year…you “hope” he is the same player…by the way….pick your poison to go along with another losing season. Congrats.
