Shelton Quarles Says Bucs Counting On Wright

Thinking/hoping the Bucs might not have their hearts and minds all-in with Eric Wright on the cornerback island opposite Darrelle Revis?
Well, former Bucs great and current coordinator of pro scouting Shelton Quarles says the Bucs are counting on Wright heavily. Joe believes Quarles’ words are the most candid admission to date that the New Schiano Order not only wants Wright around but believes plans to rely on him.
Speaking on WDAE-AM 620 this morning, the usually close-to-the-vest Quarles said Revis’ arrival puts Wright in the spotlight.
“It means the other guys will have many opportunities to get some picks. So we’re hoping that [Eric] Wright performs really well for us this year. We know he will. He has the talent, and we get some more interceptions,” Quarles said.
Joe gets the chills at the thought of the Bucs relying on Wright. Joe will feel a lot better if Ronde Barber returns and the Bucs draft a cornerback in the second round.

If Wright and Revis can stay healthy he should have a fine season opposite Revis.

We will draft another CB in or before the 3rd round. Mark it down.
Everyone thinks Bucs will relax at CB with Revis in the mix…wrong.
My original predictions of DL and 2 CB’s in the first 3 rounds holds true for me. Revis, obviously is our 1st rounder. DL and CB in rounds 2 and 3…or better stated our 1st 2 picks.

if we get Ronde back that will be a huge lift because he will play his naturally slot CB position. Ronde needs to hurry up and make a decision already. we need him for at least one more year.
Then we draft a CB early
plus we have a promising Leonard Johnson
and we are all set.

We need a DT and a TE with our round 2 and 3 picks (in either order). Yes, we need at least one more corner, but we need starters at DT and TE.

When Wright was healthy/on the field, he could play. There is a reason he was a sought after commodity only 1 year ago. Anyone remember that INT return? While a lot of conservative coaches would want him to run straight line to get as many yards as possible, he pulled a Hester and turned it into a TD. He actually still has upside at his age and at a cheap price for a starter. I agree we still need to draft at least one CB before the 5th, but I’m not terrified of opening the season with Wright on the other island with Barber coming on the blitz!

Not worried one bit about relying on Wright as a #2 CB, because that’s exactly the role he’s best suited for. And yes, the Bucs will draft a CB in either round 2 or round 3 this week. We’re good, no worries.

I would go for the following positions if I had a say in the Bucs drafting:
Rd. 2: DT
Rd. 3: CB
Rd. 4: DE
Rd. 4: RB
Rd. 5: QB or TE
Rd. 6: CB
Rd. 6: DE
I expect Dom to make at least one draft day trade, but I’m hoping those positions are addressed to add additional depth to the team.

I do not care who they draft as long as he is the BPA. If one of the top TE drops into the 2nd I wouldn’t be shocked to see him as a BUC.

I see a lot of fans predicting a DB in the second round. I just don’t see that happening. Third or fourth maybe. Not the second.

I also think we could use OLB and OT depth. I wouldn’t be upset to see us draft all defensive front 7 guys, as nothing was worse than watching teams run straight up the gut with ease a couple years ago.

Greg has a decent prediction, except that I would avoid DE this year and go with DT & OL depth. DE is the one position that has decent free agents left that will take one year deals (ex. Abraham).
And taking QB later than rd 4 is a wasted pick in most instances. I would go:
1-DT
2-CB
3-OT
4-QB
4-DT
5-LB
6- CB
6-OL
Then fill other spots with FAs for a year since those spots have at least some quality guys available.
