Fear Factor Returns To Bucs Defense

Former Bucs and Eagles guard Ian Beckles told a story today of Jon Gruden, then a boy wonder Eagles offensive coordinator, sitting in a meeting room going wild on a chalkboard to make sure his Philly offense understood they were not to throw the ball in the direction of Cowboys cornerback Deion Sanders.
Beckles’ point was that the arrival of Darrelle Revis means teams truly will have to gameplan for the Bucs’ defense again, and the Bucs, for the first time, have a shutdown cornerback that will make various phases of the defense more effective.
Delivering his takes on WDAE-AM 620 this morning, Beckles also chatted with former Bucs quarterback Shaun King on the Revis deal.
King, one of three QBs to lead the Bucs to the NFC Championship game, agreed with Revis’ potential impact, but King said he’s confident Revis won’t get the Deion treatment out of the gate in the NFC South.
King said Revis coming off a knee injury combined with the elite level of quarterback play in the division will lead to the Bucs’ rivals testing Revis and making him prove himself.
Joe agrees with King on that point. Joe would actually be surprised if Drew Brees, in the Bucs’ home opener, didn’t go after Revis early. Hopefully, Revis proves he’s worth $1 million a game, or at least half that much.

Joe I like how you say Drew Brees will test Revis, not Sanchez lol. I dont know if Sanchez will even look to that side of the field. Not only because he cant throw, but could you imagine how much the new york media would break his balls if revis got a pick six on him game one hahaha pretty boy sanchez might just quit football

btw how do feel eric wright feels knowing the corner opposite him is making almost 16 times what hes making lol who knows, maybe if eric wright doesnt act like an idiot and free up that extra cash, we dont get revis. Thanks Eric! That’s the biggest contribution you’ve made to the bucs so far!

If they can’t pressure the QB’s (Drew and Matt) …and they have time…
most nfl QB’s will eat you alive…Don’t get me wrong I elated with DR
but pressure is the name of the game..just saying

The game is won in the trenches. If Revis is healthy he won’t be able to cover WR’s forever – we must get pressure as well…MUST.
That said, Revis, Barron, Goldson, Wright, CB(s) we draft, maybe Barber – wow, that can’t hurt.
Let’s hope team chemistry is there!

Wright probably feels great. He will probably put up 6-8 picks this year and get a mega contract because of teams throwing at him so much.
The one factor no one has mentioned that would make the Revis trade irrelevant is is the one of the NFC south teams trades for STEVIE JOHNSON! He’s Revis’ Kryptonite!

Agreed BUT we do not know what we have in a pass rush. Gerald McCoy is the only remaining starter from most of last season. Not only that but I remember seeing the average pass against our defense happened in 2.5 seconds. The average sack occurs in 2.7 seconds in the NFL. Kind of hard to get sacks when players are wide open before the ball gets from the center to the QB.

Yes not great stats, but that was the point. These are considered top numbers vs Revis.
