All Eyes Now On Eric Wright

In the wake of the trade for Darrelle Revis Sunday, and barring the Bucs trading up to the late first round to grab a corner (or perhaps drafting one in the second round), the Bucs starting cornerback opposite Revis will be one Eric Wright.
His life is about to change drastically, and it’s not because he took a massive pay cut.
With Revis patrolling one side of the field, quarterbacks are unlikely to test him often, unless they enjoy watching pick-sixes go the other way. So when opposing offenses are going to throw long on the Bucs, it’s a virtual certainty that teams will be targeting Wright, early and often, game after game, basically challenging Wright to make a play.
Wright is now in the crossroads of his career. By being a perpetual target by other quarterbacks, if he is up to the challenge he is looking at a big payday since he’s now on a one-year contract.
If Wright is roasted like a bratwurst on a tailgate grill week after week, he will be begging for work next year.

How the hell did Dom get two corners that are playing for a contract. That is unheard of, especially when on of them is one of if not the best in the league

Or maybe… Revis helps Wright and/or his play helps elevate Wright’s playing, then he won’t have to step into the Great White “take off you hoser” North.
Revis has already reached out to Wright. So, we can only hope for the best.

Wright will be fine……with revis there, bowers a year more experienced, Clayborn back, goldson being able roll to wright’s side, and (hopefully) some additional pass rush in draft, he will be a lot less exposed than the Eric wright we saw last year.

If Trufant drops…and that’s a BIG IF…I think the Bucs move up into the 1st to grab him. It’s a long shot…but damn what a secondary.

I see Barber at nickel.
I see Revis locking down the top WR.
I see Barron knocking heads off closer to the box.
And, most importantly, I see Goldston helping Wright over top.
This last reality might be the best thing about the Revis signing. It can make or break BOTH their careers

This COULD be a lot like the mid-1990’s Cowboys.
They had a great SS in Woodson (Barron) advantage Cowboys
A good FS in Brock Marion (Goldston) advantage Bucs
A great CB in Sanders (Revis) advantage Cowboys, but not by much IF Revis is healthy
An average CB in Larry Brown (Wright) advantage Bucs
They spent the whole season rolling Marion over top for Marion and leaving Sanders on an island.

Revis is the best CB in the league.
Wright was toasted, with an undrafted rookie FA opposite him. With Revis on the field- Joe is right- every time will be look only at Wright.
He has never, Ever, shown even a glimpse of the talent he needs to hold up to that pressure.
Wright should be a nickel back. Really hoping we find one more good( not even great) CB. That would give us a GREAT secondary!

Wright is an awful corner who was statistically one of the worst players in the NFL last year. He was an ok player on a bad Lions defense and was a liability on a defense full of them next year. Johnson will end the year as the #2 with Wright battling Myron Lewis for the dime (assuming Ronde comes back)

Dave- no way! Barron and Wright couldn’t carry Woidson or Browns jock
Woodson was a great cover safety. Brown was an above average CB
Barron has no cover skills, and is one dimensional. Wright has never been any better than horrible. EVER

Brown was average CB with a lot of over the top help because Deon would shut his guy down. Woodson didn’t even start his rookie year. Not saying that they are better but the Barron is going into his second year, and he does have coverage skills, it’s just that without a pass rush you have all day to get open.
