Squeezing John Idzik

Joe has banged the drum repeatedly to proclaim Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik should hold Jets general manager John Idzik hostage to make it less likely Dominik will get raked over the coals for a ransom in return for Jets star cornerback Darrelle Revis.
Dominik, in Joe’s eyes, has all the leverage in the world, which only strengthens by the day. So Joe is glad to see others jumping on the bandwagon.
Take Woody Cummings of The Tampa Tribune. He Twittered out yesterday Dominik should play very hard to get for the next week or so.

Exactly! The Jets need to trade Revis more than the Bucs need Revis. There is only one team out there willing to tackle Revis’ salary and that is the Bucs.
Since the Bucs are the lone suitor, Dominik gets to set the market for Revis, not Idzik.
Yes, Joe will write this again: Every day Dominik waits, the vice on Idzik’s private parts gets tighter.

That’s a great strategy. Problem is – it’s too late for that. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but the Bucs have already offered the 2013 1st round pick. It’s the other picks that are at issue.
There is no strength in my words because there have been so many reports that I’m not sure what the current offer is!

There is no leverage in this ordeal. The Jets can CHOOSE to do what they see fit.
The “squeeze” is on Dominick for NOT SIGNING ONE FREE AGENT CB this offseason.
This “squeeze”, so to speak, is 100% self induced.
If we don’t get Revis, then it will appear that the Bucs only want to make media noise, but not actually make it happen.
Missing out on Revis would be worse than having Albery Haynesworth initially sign with the Bucs.
We need Revis, and Dominick chose to sit on 30+ million in cap space and not address the CB position in Free Agency.
What if Ronde actually hangs up his cleats? Then what? The only “squeeze” out there is the self induced one Dominick/Glazers put on our team this offseason.
Playoffs in 2013 is realistic. We should finish in the top 6 of 16 teams, at least once every 5 years.

Dom holds all the cards. It’s a buyers market with only one buyer. I still don’t think we should deal this year’s first pick. Other teams have picks to deal but they can’t pay Revis. I expect Dominik to do well because. All eyes are on him.

Just want to see the decision maker, roster developer, and salary cap manager do well.
Just putting it out there, it is not ok to have the worst secondary in the game, 30 million in the bank, and potentially 5 years without playoffs.

The bigger issue with Revis isn’t picks. Its the contract he’ll agree to and subsequently hold out on the following season. Bucs historically aren’t a team that negotiates with holdouts. And Revis is historically a player that holds out AGAIN and AGAIN.
That’s the bigger issue here. Not what Jets will eventually take in a trade.

I believe Dominik might be willing to give up the 13th pick . As the article suggests, he shouldn’t, nor should he have to. He has the leverage. However, the first round talent in this years draft is considered weak. Dominik may look at Revis as being better than any player he can get with the 13th pick. I would prefer Dominik give the Jets a final offer that doesn’t include the 13th pick. If the Jets don’t accept, Dominik should walk away and look to sign him as a free agent next year. Dominik already has a relationship with Revis’ agents and should have an inside track, as long as another team doesn’t surface for a trade.

I don’t get why people think the Bucs NEED to land Revis more that the Jets need to unload him. If they draft two corners in the first three rounds they will already be better that last year. So I agree 100% with Joe, the Bucs have all the laverage . And besides who’s to say that this wasn’t their plan all along.

Trade back in 1st round with Minnesota pick up 3rd and 4th rounders from them. Then trade the 1st round pick for revis.
