JoeBucsFanTV: “Bucs Have To Do Something”
April 12th, 2013What exactly is the Bucs’ philosophy at defensive end entering the draft?
All Bucs fans know is that — for now — the New Schiano Order has cleared the way for third-year ends Adrian Clayborn and Da’Quan Bowers to prove themselves coming off injuries.
Are two rather unproven ends with tremendous potential, and unspectacular backups, enough to fix the Bucs’ pass rush?
No chance, says draft guru Justin “The Commish” Pawlowski. The Commish dives into premium pass rushers in the latest can’t-miss episode of JoeBucsFanTV.

OK, I am not liking this. 2 high picks at DE to start, & they also let Bennett go?? I don’t think the Bucs are after a pure DE. As I have said, a sam who can edge-rush with his hand on the ground, fine. DE, nope, wasted pick.

I would not be opposed to Carradine in the second but please no DEs in the first. We have two extremely talented guys and we really are only in need of a little depth at DE(Daniel Teo’Neshiem is a pretty solid backup). I am fine with a DT, CB, or maybe a RT. Anything else in the first round would be adding a player that would not play full time or would take time away from a talented player already on the roster.

Trade down, pick up another 3rd or 4th and select Margus Hunt. He has the size, strength, and speed to play inside as a DT and outside as a DE. Two positions with one pick. Then use the 4th we got from the Pats to trade up to the top of the 2nd and take the best CB left on the board. There are so many good CBs like D.J. Hayden available in the 2nd, they may not even have to trade up.

We just spent 2 high draft picks on defensive ends, and now it is said we need more ?
To accept this, is to admit Bowers and Claiborne are failures.

IMO
*Trade back in the 3rd half of the 1st round– pick up extra pick(s)
Draft-DE Datone Jones
Jones played (end ) but kicked (inside) on sub packages. And he’s a much better prospect the Michael Bennett coming out of college

* I hear Coach Schiano talk about the weight room and proper conditioning. Devin Taylor, just needs to improve his functional strength. And he will be a good prospect off the bench. In a year or two he could push for starting position

I am all about drafting Devin Taylor, not just because Im a homie with my Gamecocks, but his height can devastate with bat downs if he’s taught to position and be a little more instinctive (I know, you cant teach instinct but you can teach anticipation).
He needs some better foot work too. But as Clowney’s opposite, he went very unnoticed…..well until that east/west Shrine game.
