Mark Dominik Needs To Land Darrelle Revis Now

April 11th, 2013

No, just because Joe has typed the name “Darrelle Revis” doesn’t mean Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik will pull off a deal for the Jets cornerback.

Trade discussions are not dead, but on pause. A trade could happen; it could not happen. A trade for Revis could happen overnight; it could happen after the draft; it could never happen.

Popular sports radio host Adam Schein believes it should happen. Now. And Dominik would be out of his mind not to pull the trigger, this minute, so says Schein, of NFL.com and Maddog Radio, heard exclusively on SiriusXM Radio.

Revis is an ex-Jet-in-waiting, as I wrote in February. Now it seems there’s only one team involved in the Jets’ attempts to trade him: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Is it possible, perhaps, just maybe, that the Bucs need Revis more than the Jets need to get rid of him? I’d argue that this is absolutely the case.

The pendulum has swung. April’s draft cannot come and go without Tampa trading for Revis — not if the Bucs want to win in 2013, not if the brass wants to stay employed.

Joe loves Schein’s radio show and terribly misses him on SiriusXM NFL Radio. Joe’s met Schein a few times and he’s a good dude. Joe’s a Schein kinda guy through and through. But Joe cannot disagree more with Schein on this subject. Dominik is not going to get fired if he doesn’t land Revis. Hell, if the Bucs make the playoffs — with or without Revis — Dominik just might get a contract extension.

And no, the Bucs do not need Revis (gasp — how dare Joe agree with Shaun King?!). The Bucs have more than one hole on the defensive side of the ball and Joe cannot picture Revis being the final piece of the puzzle for a Super Bowl win.

Would Revis help the Bucs? Sure. But so would, say, Sheldon Richardson or Desmond Trufant or D.J. Fluker or Tank Carradine.

Dominik’s career is not on the line based on where Revis plays football this fall.

The Jets need to move Revis much more than the Bucs need to trade for him.

    S T A Y C A L M !!!

  2. Jonny 3.3 Says:

Why are the opinions of a mormon that thinks Christian Ponder is a better QB than Freeman still relevant?

  3. Sunny Says:

    It’s be calm

  4. al121976 Says:

I say we keep the pick and trade up for that leon sandcastle kid, he’s going to be GREAT. his 40 time was off the chart

  5. Sunny Says:

Best time would be after the draft given we draft a corner or 2 and the price would come down when we look less desperate

  6. Sunny Says:

Joe you are slipping again where’s the be clam although you got the rock star in there this time

  7. @MikeInTampa2 Says:

Schein is WASHED-UP & will say ANYTHING to get attention after getting demoted..smh

  8. 4everBucsFan Says:

I think the media wants this trade to happen more than the fans and either teams front office.

The mainstream media has to save face now after some sticking their necks out making bold predictions. They are desperate now and Schein is starting to look silly. They are the protagonist.

  9. raphael Says:

@sunny ..it not enough to be calm….we must stay calm..

  10. raphael Says:

@ sunny..is that be a clam ..or happy as a clam or what ?

  11. Drew Says:

    So Over This!

  12. Sunny Says:

It’s a clammy calm hope that clears it up

  13. JonBuc Says:

Sol Rosenberg-Schein was a good sidekick to Gannon but may have jumped the shart with both this comment and his new gig. Now is not the time to buckle to the Jets….wait them out I say.

  14. Architek Says:

I mean I like having him for PR but Revis on the field have not equated to championships to date so no need to cripple the team future by overpaying or mortgaging the draft for one person.

  15. Mikeski Says:

“…-not if the Bucs want to win in 2013…”? Let’s see…The Bucs won 7 games last year without Revis; AND with a banged up D-line, O-line, and a patched up secondary. The Bucs do not NEED Revis to be contenders. If Freeman can conjure up his inner Flacco, the Bucs are a playoff team without this Revis guy. I’m beginning to think this trade is being fueled by the media, especially in NY.

  16. Karl Says:

Schein sounds like a Jet fan or just trying to stick up for the best interest of a New York team.Just another sport guy blabbing to much.Never was impressed with his opinions on any team good guy or not.

  17. Andrew 1 Says:

“April’s draft cannot come and go without Tampa trading for Revis — not if the Bucs want to win in 2013, not if the brass wants to stay employed.”

bold statement for something thats not necessarily true. do you guys think that we cannot win without Revis? I say we can still win even if dont get him. “one player does not a team make.” we would have to get some other players to fill that void at CB though. thats what the draft is for.

  18. Curmudgeon Says:

Can we stop talking about this? Even if it’s only for one day…

  19. Macabee Says:

    Jonny3.3,

I’m pretty sure you meant moron. I kept asking myself what does Mitt Romney have to do with the Revis trade? lol

  20. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ 4everbucsfan

I absolutely agree with you. we are they going to learn that they have no say in this decision and to stop meddling.

  21. Nickaswell Says:

LOL thats what I thought….. Hey why bring the mormons into this!!! HAHA

  22. Nickaswell Says:

On another note what does the new Pope think about this Revis deal?????

  23. Andrew 1 Says:

there is one silver lining to all this Revis talk. we are not being talking about by the national like we actually matter. I havent heard this much talk about the bucs since we played in the super bowl.

  24. Dylan Says:

@joe, I’m sorry… But Adam makes way more sense and has valid points behind what he states unlike the clown Shaun king. Sorry but I agree with Adam. Not shaun. Adam can argue and support his points. Good luck Sean king with the idiotic statements you ment today. If the bucs don’t make playoffs and have another losing record you think mark gets a contract extension? C’mon what’s his overall record gonna be. You think any rookie corner or two can come in and accomplish 80% of what revis can? That’s a c’mon man. Adam makes a point that bucs need revis more. It’s true. Good luck competing with the falcons, saints, 49ers, Seahawks, packers with Eric wright your #1 corner. Bravo on that theory.

  25. bob Says:

i think A younger ,player who is not a cancer in locker room always holding out ,and wanting more and more would be better , and lot more fun to watch.

  26. upthegut Says:

    @ Nickaswell
Dis a da Pope-a here. I’ma tella you dis. Dis Revis guy, hima no walk on water.
To Marco Dominico I’ma gonna remind you…..thou shalla not covet thy neighbors goods. Thisa means don’t give away more than a numbero 2 drafta pick for disa guy.
To Darellia Revis…thou shalla not steala. We gotta signa more piasanos, capice? No hold uppa da bank. You ain’ta worth 14 million lira, signa a long terma deala at a cappa friendly price or we give you a deala you no gonna refuse!

  27. Biff Barker Says:

Just listened to Sal Palentonio on WDAE. His assertion is that Revis is not a cancer. It’s hard to say either way… it IS the Jets after all.

  28. drbuc Says:

    it’s “Keep Calm” btw lol

  29. Brandon Says:

If it is such a great deal then why aren’t 30 other teams making salary cap room and trading picks to acquire Revis? Oh, because it ISN’T a great deal. Not even close. Why give up huge draft picks, pay 3X more than the going rate for a CB that is coming off a huge injury, and entering the early twlight of his career?

The Bucs would be STUPID to make this deal of $15-16 a year and ANYTHING of value in a trade. Revis wouldn’t get $15-16 a year if he were a free agent this season, why on Earth would we give him that much money AND premium draft picks?

  30. Deminion Says:

I wanted revis at first but I wudnt mind us drafting a CB(Rhodes) and trading back in the first to grab a DT

  31. Deminion Says:

What I learned about Dom is that he usually has a plan that no one see coming

  32. Meh Says:

Dom getting canned has nothing to do with Revis, and everything to do with the end results next year, and perhaps the year after.

  33. Legarrettes Blunt Says:

So joe you would rather have Sheldon Richardson that darrelle revis? How are you still employed saying dumb stuff like that. And was Desmond trufant listed in the same sentence as revis? Trufant is not, and will never be darrelle revis. No player in this draft will be as good as revis and that is just the truth. This is a bad draft class why would we not trade our pick this year then have a high pick next year to pick a qb if josh freeman plays horrible again. It’s simple if you ask me, trade our first this year for revis

  34. SeanyMac in SC Says:

I think this trade will all depend on what the doctors say about Revis’s knee. It’s been written that the Bucs staff “know knees”, so if the knee passes the test, we get Revis, if the knee fails the test, he stays with the Jets. Can’t wait for the draft to get here!

  35. Cassidy Says:

Did Legarrettes Blunt really question why Joe is still employed? I do agree that Revis is worth a number one pick, but I don’t think many Bucs fans will be crushed watching the Bucs fill multiple holes by way of the draft while the Jets continually talk about the Revis/Jets soured relationship.

  36. Dave Says:

Is it possible, perhaps, just maybe, that the Bucs need Revis more than the Jets need to get rid of him?

Absoltely NOT true. Wright back healthy and head on straight and a drafted CB and Barron and Goldston in the back…. they are already improved drastically from what they trotted out there in more than 70% of the games last year.

Revis is icing.. so DO NOT OVERPAY in picks or $$

  37. bucobruce Says:

This just in, the Bucs will win the super bowl in 2013 and 2014.

  38. gotbbucs Says:

I’m really hoping Dominik has moved on from this trade for the time being, if he was really even in on it from the start. Focus needs to be 100% on the draft at this point. Desmond Trufant is Schiano’s style of corner. Target him in the first round and see how things fall form there.
It’s not the draft pick compensation that bothers me about the Revis trade talk, it’s the speculated contract numbers. $15-16 million per is ridiculous. Let the Jets choke on him until the trade deadline. If Dominik is hell bent on getting him, the longer he waits the lower the price tag gets.

  39. Jared Says:

Has anyone ever thought that Dominik is playing the Jets? If he sours they’re relationship with all this trade talk, then he bolts next year in free agency. I’m sure Dom could use all the draft picks this year, fill multiple holes, and get Revis next year when he hits the market. We will still be able to win the bidding war. It’s a huge game of cat and mouse and I honestly think Dom is playing it perfectly.

  40. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

The Wright contract is only a 1 year deal now. $1.5 plus another $1.5 in incentives that he is unlikely to meet.

It looks like Wright is hoping for a big payday next year like all the other players. Only one problem with that…it’s starting to look like the market will be flooded with players.

I don’t think salaries will increase as much as expected and we could see a player strike in a couple years.

  41. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Revis is notcoming to Tampa, not this year at least.

If I were Dominick, I would make a reduced offer. Maybe this years 2nd and say it’s our final offer.

With the dline healthy, a pro bowl safety added and an offense in its second year, we can afford to just draft CBs and give them time to learn.

I do think Dominick need to sign so.e line depth on both sides of the ball, but I suspect he intends to fill most depth spots after the draft.

  42. holymoly Says:

Tired of reading about Revis . Would like to see him in a Buccaneer uniform , but seems like the Bucs have the upper hand . If jets don’t trade him now won’t he be a free agent next year ? Think come draft day the jets will be willing to make a trade so they don’t end up with nothing .

  43. Capt. Tim Says:

The new Pope said, that even with Revis- our secondary doesn’t have a prayer!!

Lol- that’s funny, don’t care who you are!

  44. Tiny tim Says:

I agree 100% with you Joe!!
