Eric Wright Needs To Improve His Tackling

Now that, for the time being, we know troubled cornerback Eric Wright will return to the Bucs, please allow Joe to make a simple request to Mr. Wright:
“Improve your tackling.”
The TV watchers at ProFootballFocus.com put down their notebooks and closed their Excel spreadsheets long enough to type out who the worst tackling cornerbacks were last year in the NFL.
Perhaps not so shockingly, two of the worst 15 tacklers playing cornerback wore pewter and red last season, fan favorite E.J. Biggers and Wright.
In the sordid list linked, Biggers was the seventh-worst tackling corner and Wright was No. 13.
Now Joe knows that Bucs coach Greg Schiano is a big stickler on tackling. Joe hopes that maybe, inspired by his friend, safety Dashon Goldson, and additional coaching from Schiano and his staff, Wright improves on this depressing number.

I hope Goldson can help EW in all aspects of his game. I still have not seen anything that impresses me about EW other than his inflated paycheck.

Yeah, now that we are paying him 1/4 of original yearly salary we should expect him to tackle better. …lol

Exactly. I thought he made a lot of impressive open-field tackles early in the season and looked like by far our best tackling corner. It was a tumultuous year for Wright because he was constantly banged up and suspended. He can tackle, the question is whether he can cover bigger receivers and prevent them from going over top of him for catches.
His original contract was at least $2 million more per year than he deserved, but his own mistakes worked to our benefit. We have him on a no risk contract when he’s better than most of the guys who were signed already to other teams.

His mistake didn’t benefit us last year when we lost every game that he was suspendeded for.
Everybody scratched their head when Dominik gave EW that big deal, but we were all so happy to have VJax and Nicks. He is a fine #2 CB; now we need a #1.

Joe, good video clip. I stand corrected. Isn’t that the game we gave up 511 yards in passing to Eli Manning. Even a blind squirrel finds an nut once in awhile. Feed me more!

Wright started 10 games. Major contributer to that last place defense.
If he were to dramatically improve his coverage skills, and his tackling, and stopped abusing drugs, and quit getting suspended- he would still be a risk as a dime back.
Worst pass defense in history translates to” wow, what a great bunch of players” to some of you- doesn’t it.
Buc management is right about a lot of you- you will accept any piece if low budget crap they field.
Playoff teams don’t start CBs like Eric Wright!
