Orlovsky Preparing For Return, Pay Cut
April 8th, 2013The QB who said he took zero first-team reps in practice last season is about to return for his second season as Josh Freeman’s competition the Bucs’ backup quarterback.
Per the Twitterings of Bucs beat writer Roy Cummings, Dan Orlovsky will re-sign with the Bucs.
@RCummingsTBO – Hearing that Dan Orlovsky will re-sign with the Bucs today
Orlovsky signed a two-year deal before last season, got cut recently, and it’s pretty obvious he’ll be back at a reduced price. So the Bucs saved a few nickels and at least have a guy in the mix who knows the system.
Whether this cuts the odds that the Bucs draft a quarterback later this month is unknown.

Good move all the way around.
Good insurance policy for an in game assignment.
This opens the door for another QB in the draft.
April 8th, 2013 at 5:04 pm
I like it only because he is familiar with the system but I would like to see one picked up in the draft.
April 8th, 2013 at 5:10 pm
If Freeman goes down for an extended period, they feel confident handing the keys to Orlovsky?
Hoping for someone like Glennon in the draft.
April 8th, 2013 at 5:10 pm
If this is true, that means Freeman is breathing much easier. Means no competition, and maybe more photo shoots.
April 8th, 2013 at 5:20 pm
If Orlovsky is the competition we sorely needed at the QB position for Freeman then hell has frozen over.
April 8th, 2013 at 5:33 pm
I don’t mind Orlovsky or the next guy, but give me the confidence that somebody has a plan and knows what they are doing. If this was about a pay cut, why didn’t they amend his original contract?
If this was a snap judgment and then an afterthought, that worries me. Did somebody say “maybe we ought to wait until we got a solid back-up before we do this” and they did an about face?
Look, I’m not trying to tell Dominik or Schiano who to pick. As a fan, all I ask for is the confidence to feel that we’re working from a plan and not making this stuff as we go!

Keep him Jets..Jets…Jets………this team is not ready for another #19…@ this stage…
April 8th, 2013 at 6:33 pm
Macabee – how do you know that they did not ask O for a pay cut? Maybe he refused thinking he could do better on the open market. He now realizes that maybe he cannot do better so 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing. It bugs me that the readers of this site think they know more than those who are charged with running the team. If you trolls were so smart you’d be in someones war room preparing for the draft and not sitting in your mothers house typing out your stupid I ‘m smarter than the rest of you BS.
Get a clue folks and have faith in those whose profession the NFL is!

This is just smoke and mirrors, and of no importance

i hope

I can guarantee one thing Joe, all heck will break loose.
April 8th, 2013 at 7:38 pm
Poor guy had to take a paycut when the bucs are 30 million under.
Greedy azz bucs.

YouareDefinitelydumb, says,
I’m going to make up a story out of thin air and have you believe that he was in the room when this transaction went down and has since talked to Orlovsky and know that Orlovsky came crawling back when he found no takers.
The Bucs have 26mil over the salary cap and orlovsky was to make 1.5mil in 2013. You honestly think the Bucs went to this extent to get him to take the veteran minimum.
If you think we’re going to buy that, you are no smarter than the shills that sent you out to make that statement!
April 8th, 2013 at 7:51 pm
Youpeoplearesodumb wow yes us fans just have no clue. What irks me are people like you who ask fans to be blind sheep to clueless moves by our ownership or general manager. When Adrian Peterson was coming out I remember seeing his film following the combine and thinking if I were a GM I am trading up and doing everything possible for the Bucs to get him. Who did we pick? Yes our brainchild who was Bruce Allen at that moment decided to go defense with Gaines Adams. Yes Youpeoplearesodumb some moves by GM’s just aren’t so intelligent. Its our right to judge thats why we are fans. We have faith but you have to show a commitment to winning and hopefully we now have that.

Nick & Mac
Being a fan and having an opinion is fine. It’s bothersome when some see only the negative. Yes some decisions are bad and it is easy to criticize after the fact. No one makes the right call every time. I just wish some folks would think a little more before they post.
I am a passionate Buc fan holding season tickets for 28 years and spent one of the best days of my life in the upper deck at Qualcom Stadium in January of 2003 and it bugs me when I read so many negative posts from our so called fans.
April 8th, 2013 at 8:20 pm
youpeoplearesodumb,
Then on that note, I can agree that we all say some things that are better left unsaid, but I think you will agree that doesn’t make them dumb. Like yourself, they may just be passionate.
I’ll step up and apologize for changing your name. We’ve both admitted that in a moment of passion, people say things that are well……kinda dumb! lol

Likewise Mac – thank you and have a good night
April 8th, 2013 at 9:35 pm
This was not rocket science to see this coming.
April 8th, 2013 at 11:07 pm
Did someone say Dr. Orlovsky’s in da House!
April 9th, 2013 at 5:53 am
Macabee. I buy that they iffered to redo his contract, otherwisebhe would want at least his original amount tonreturn. This happens all the time. The extra cap has nothing to do with the back up qb. If the bucs think he was over paid they negotiate it down, sometimes that involves letting the player see if he can get more. That makes more sense than assuming they had an after thought.
April 9th, 2013 at 6:49 am
Pop Star resigning Orlovsky to a league minimum. The plan just keeps coming together. Now when Freeman throws 2 picks in the 1st quarter Schiano has the ability to put in Orlovsky and start the march to Clowney. I hope other GM’s and players are watching how to build a Superbowl pretender.

MTM
Thank you for proving my point about negativity. It’ obvious you don’t want Josh as your starter or Dan as your back up. If you were the coach or GM what would you do?
It’s so easy to be critical. It’s something else to conceive and execute a better plan.
Please show us your brilliant master plan.
April 9th, 2013 at 8:04 am
Wow, reAlly? The bucs will mist lijely add a third qb ro comoete for the back up role…like they do every year. You guys kilm me some
Kill me some times.
April 9th, 2013 at 9:05 am
@ Youpeoplearesodumb
What is your master plan ? Just sit around year after year watching the same stupid moves in hopes that some how the regime figures it out. As far as a master plan: draft well, don’t over pay for FA’s and hire better people in the scouting department to start.

1-20 career record. great move.
