Blount Breathing Easier With Ware’s Ouster
April 4th, 2013When the Bucs signed former Rutgers icon Brian Leonard this week, Joe figured D.J. Ware was the guy in trouble. But given Leonard’s versatility at running back/fullback, there was at least a shot that the New Schiano Order was preparing to dump its talented backup RB, LeGarrette Blount.
However, Blount is still a Buccaneer Man, and Ware is walking the streets.
Joe is pleased.
Blount remains a holstered, loaded weapon (or at least zipped up in airport luggage), and there’s really no reason for the Bucs to ditch the depth he provides. Sure, if a third- or fourth-round pick is served up to rockstar general manager Mark Dominik for Blount, then the Bucs must make that deal, considering they’ll never re-sign Blount when he hits unrestricted free agency after the 2013 season. But there’s no way that happens. Running backs, outside of a select few, don’t carry that kind of value.
Joe would prefer to see the Bucs’ offensive braintrust figure out ways to incorporate Blount and play to his strengths. After all, if the Bucs make a win-now move for Darrelle Revis, then Blount’s final year in pewter is one in which he should be maximized.

Shiano is a guru for rb’s…lets see what he can do with another year teaching Blount how to play

Use Martin more on third down and Blount more on first and second. They should be able to pair those guys in the backfield, too.

Told ya’ll Blount ain’t going no where…..why would they lock him up and not Roy Miller or Michael Bennett……duh???????????
April 4th, 2013 at 8:25 pm
Now all we need to do is draft Eddie Lacy if the is there @ 43…..I am dead nuts SERIOUS !
April 4th, 2013 at 8:37 pm
Blount is next to go….book it !
April 4th, 2013 at 9:03 pm
Blount will be traded on draft day allowing the Bucs to move up a few spots.

Right tackle Tyson Clabo from the Falcons is going to be cut for cap reasons. I say snag him. Pro bowler, knows our divion rival and hasn’t missed a game in 5 years.
April 4th, 2013 at 9:39 pm
Uhhh dude — they didn’t exactly lock him up — one year contract at a very tradable salary? How is that “locked up”?

I don’t know what Blount did to Schiano, but Blount needs to be used more. I hate seeing a talent like him be wasted on the bench. “He’s one dimensional” I’ve seen him line up in the slot ,catch, screens, run over players and be used on play action. Just cause he can’t block doesn’t make him one dimensional. Don’t put him in to block!!! Are 2 headed monster of a running game could be great, but they refuse to use Blount. You can’t tell me Blount isn’t a valuable in the run game.

I still don’t think Blount is safe. Maybe they feel Michael Smith is ready to move up the chart.

Wish they would trade him with a first rounder next year for Revis. I’m sick of looking at this guy already.
April 4th, 2013 at 11:10 pm
Blount, this years 3rd and next years 1st if thats what it takes for Revis. Draft Rhodes/ trufant, then trade 2nd and 4th to trade up back into first round for whoever they fall in love with.
April 4th, 2013 at 11:36 pm
buccfaninhawkeyecountry, I would rather use a 1 & 3 this year to move up for Milner. Then take another cb in the second.

Clabo? Interesting. Sounds like a great 1yr deal, with 2nd option.
Think about how much Falcon knowledge he would bring, the pro bowl talent, 6’6 329 lbs, and would allow Dotson to back up Penn and Clabo. This would put a nice book end to Nicks and Joseph.
I could see us drafting a center too, just for depth, and to let Bostad do his thing, IMO, a future head coach in this league.

Blount is insurance if Martin was to get hurt is the main reason why he will stay on this team and depending on how he does on his limited chances this year will determen wheather he stays or they look else were for another backup.Revis will be here soon!!!!!!

If he would just stop dancing, get low and use that big body and strength to bowl through (while not fumbling of course), his game would greatly improve and he would be utilized more. I love his hurdling, but use that body big man and be a 45 slug penetrating deep in the mass.

@bucfaninhawkeyecountry
Love the trade for revis.rather would keep those picks after drafting Rhodes.think about the talent in the 4th.deepest draft in long time.after revis and Rhodes we don’t need another cb drafted if we have wright,Leonard, lewis

Blount is worthless. Can’t block worth a poo and dances in the backfield instead of hitting a hole. There’s a reason he’s on the bench.
April 5th, 2013 at 7:45 am
Schiano the “running back guru” has been tryng to unload Blount because the Bucs are going to draft another.
Michael Smith may be scratching for a roster spot as a special teamer or he’ s gone too.
April 5th, 2013 at 8:40 am
We’ve heard they have plans for Michael Smith. Blount will get traded.
April 5th, 2013 at 11:03 am
I don’t get the Blount hate, he might not be a model citizen but he’s a good RB.
Blount has a highlight reel most RBs would kill for, and in only two seasons of action behind rag tag offensive lines.
Keep this guy, odds are we will need him!
Go Bucs!!!

I always felt like Blount just needed better coaching. Raheem was useless of course, but I hoped Schiano’s college experience would help get players better who were already here (Freeman included). Maybe this year.
