Bucs Sign Defensive Tackle Derek Landri
March 30th, 2013Who said Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik is taking the Easter weekend off?
Per ProFootballTalk.com scribe and current reporter for RavensInsider.com, Aaron Wilson, Dominik signed Eagles defensive tackle Derek Landri.
@RavensInsider: Derek Landri has agreed to a two-year, $3.25 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per a league source.
Now whether Landri is the starter for the Bucs this fall remains to be seen. If you go by the numbers, he’s a Roy Miller clone. Landri hasn’t had a sack since 2011 and had but 13 tackles in 16 games last year.
Sounds more like a signing for depth to Joe than anything else.
“Keep calm.”

who?
its looks like the bucs are being very selective on who they want starting and signing everyone else as depth. they dont want just anyone starting, they have specific players in mind. I just wish we knew who they were.

he’s 290 pounds, is the 3-tebnhnique backup? or nose guard backup?

Good Move Dom, was kind of disappointed we didn’t sign him last year. Good rotational player.

Derek Landri!!! Pure Genius on the part of the Rock Star!

Living here near Philly, this is a good pick up. Yes, he is like Miller, a good run stuffer, and eats double teams. He I also healthy and does not have the list of injuries like Roy did. Sure hope things go well in the draft.

Will look good behind GMC n Tommie Kelly when we sign him :o)

Absolutely nothing wrong with a solid healthy depth chart!. Love double team eaters.

Guy is good depth.
Now- who’s the starter?
March 30th, 2013 at 6:11 pm
Doubt we get Tommy Kelly too old
March 30th, 2013 at 7:26 pm
I love DT’s.
In the fourth quarter. You need fat boys that can still run!
Depth on the d-line is everything.
I am sure he is a “buccaneer man” thats why we signed him
A hard working dude for sure.

This is a good pickup. Not a home run by any means but he is a high-motor type player.

he did block a field goal…

I think we looked at Derek last year and passed on him at about the time we brought on Wallace “Hinges” Gilberry, the DE/DT we got from KC. I call him hinges because we signed and released him several times last year. BTW, Gilberry went to the Bengals and played lights out.
Landri looks more like rotational depth because he’s not a real runstopper like Miller. He’s actually more of a high motor 3 tech, when he’s played at his best. I’m assuming we get our starter in the draft. I’ve decided to wait to see how this drama unfolds.

I don’t think you got the right link there Andrew 1. I just watched JJ Watt deflect 16 passes. Watt is a beast though.

Tommie kelly is only 32 and he’s 6’6 330lbs, if we can sign this guy why not kelly since were not signing starters and he isnt a high motor every play guy but he’s made more than he should for his production, he wont command a high salary so bring in kelly and lets see whats left in the thank. Im ok with our lack of signing in free agency but it’s not good going into the draft desperate for starters CREATE COMPETITION that was what schiano wanted so why pass over players that provide that?

Good move I’m calm

Macabee , my thoughts are along similar lines. I see this as sort of a fall-back signing in order to create draft flexibilty. It adds depth of course.

Landri is an awesome and cheap signee…finally something positive to talk about

Good signing, sounds like a hard nosed player.
Can we sign a CB of for depth now? 🙂
March 31st, 2013 at 1:52 am
Forget about CB depth….we’re keeping Wright and going to the draft. Thank Mathieu for saving us the high value draft picks for Revis…we’ll land him next year long as he’s on healthy knees.

Landri is one of two DT I thought the Bucs would be interested in, the other one being Trev Laws who I actually preferred slightly.
Landri is small and fairly athletic, has stayed healthy, and is a hardworker with a good motor. He is a lot like Miller in a lot of ways. Despite Miller’s starting status, he too was a rotational player, at this point, however, Landri has to be penciled in as the starter.
