Team Glazer Pushing For Darrelle Revis Trade?

Now this is getting interesting.
The creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com, the great Mike Florio, fresh off a trip to work the NFL owners meetings in Arizona, posted a very interesting item about the Darrelle Revis-to-Bucs rumors.
Apparently, per Florio, Team Glazer is the engine behind the trade talks.
One thing is becoming more obvious: The move to get Revis is coming from Tampa Bay ownership. That’s what one source with knowledge of the trade dynamics told PFT on Thursday.
The two teams are believed to have dug in on the question whether the package of picks will be headlined by a first-rounder in 2013 or a first-round selection in 2014. If that’s the only difference, and if the folks who sign the checks have decided they’re ready to write some big ones to Revis (even though the cornerback market has softened significantly in the past nine days), there’s a good chance they’ll direct G.M. Mark Dominik to give up the first-round pick in 2013.
Now this is a bit surprising to Joe. Generally, Team Glazer stays out of player personnel moves other than, obviously, to say they are willing to cut a check, like they have for top-shelf free agents over the past year.
There was a comment this week from Bucs co-chairman Joel Glazer that jumped out at Joe, by way of eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune:
“To me, one year without a playoff win is too long,” Glazer said. “Ten years is extremely disappointing, but I have great confidence we have the people in place to reverse that trend. It’s tough to win in this league, but it’s within everyone’s control to change their course. Ultimately, it falls on our shoulders as owners. We’re not going to hide from our responsibility. All we’re going to do is work our tails off that it doesn’t continue.”
Is Team Glazer pushing Dominik to get a deal done? If that were true, Joe suspects a deal would already be done. Joe’s going to take another stab in the dark and suggest Team Glazer has OK’d cash for a potential Revis contract but is leaving the dirty work of hammering out a trade to Dominik.

There is absolutely no way the Glazers are dictating terms. They have probably approved terms set by Dom. They just don’t operate like Al Davis or Jerry Jones. They have probably said that money is no object for Revis but you set the terms of the trade.
I am starting to think getting Revis would make a huge difference. Teams will not throw in his directon allowing us to plan accordingly. Also, his leadership will be felt by the entire team. I like it, but I think we can hold out for a 2014 first round pick. The Jets don’t have a choice.
They don’t want our 2014 because they know it will be much higher.

I find it hard to believe they’re dictating picks. Last time that happened we gave up a bunch of premium picks and cash, sure we won a SB, but the lack of those picks and drafting…set us back…well…to this day.

The thought of ownership dictating a first round pick makes me gag. Say it isn’t so and just let Rockstar do his thing…………. whatever the hell that is.

Any status update with trading Blount? If we can continue to stockpile picks I am on the bandwaggon with trading away our 1st if thats all they wanted. Dom can work magic with those later round picks (i.e Doug Martin, Lavonte David)

Do you know how many teams would do anything, give up any amount of picks if it guaranteed them a Super Bowl ring? Do you know how many teams have never even BEEN to a Super Bowl? Please don’t write off the only Super Bowl win in franchise history to make a point.
If ownership and the front office thinks we are on the verge of winning a Super Bowl then, by all means, go all out and do what you have to do to put us over the top. If that means trading for Revis then so be it.
I, personally, do not see us as on-the-verge of a Super Bowl appearance. Playoffs? Hopefully. Super Bowl? Wishful but unlikely this season.

Revis wants too much money, which hampers the Bucs from signing and re-signing talent in the future. One player is not worth that kind of money, unless it’s a solid QB or an elite pass rusher. I would be just fine if the Bucs walked away from this deal. If the Glazers and Dominik are intent on acquiring Revis, they need to hold firm. They shouldn’t give up their 1st round pick this year. With no other viable trade partners in the fold, the Jets don’t have much leverage. A 1st round pick next year and maybe mid round pick this year or next.

I’m not dismissing the SB, wasn’t trying to anyway, merely using it as a point of reference. We gave up picks and cash for a coach, and yes we won a SB, but the goal is for continued success, maintaining that level of excellence and consistency. I’m pointing out that giving up those picks for Gruden, AND the bad drafting set us back years. I’m saying we can’t do THAT again. I’ll take year after year of making the playoffs over 1 SB and years of misery. At least I know we have a chance in the playoffs vs knowing we don’t without.

With or without Revis we are not a championship team next year. Mone on, get the best available. Revis will be much less expensive later.

I think since they are willing to give up next years 1st&2nd(2014) rd pick they should just give them this years 1st(2013). IMO they could move back into this years 1st round(2013) by trading next years 1st&2nd(2014) to a team like the Rams or Vikings who have 2 1st rd picks this year(2013).

This is a joke. Don’t give up any picks for this guy bucs. Draft for best talent. Ok we get another season of XXit. So be it but don’t give away the future. This team with Revis is not going to super bowl. So why even consider a guy like this? Great at one time, damaged now.

It’s a huge gamble, on a guy that’s not even able to run yet.
It concerns me that, out of no where, the jets suddenly “let slip” that their best player is on the trading block. Why do they suddenly want to lose their best guy??
Meybe, just meybe, they know a little more about that knee injury than we do. The Bucs are willing to trade, sight unseen.
The jets get picks, Revis gets guarenteed money. And we are the owners of a lame horse. It is possible. The jets put in the big” we aren’t trading” act. The Bucs let every other good young CB sign elsewhere- and get desperate to sign him. It is a risk
If Revis is healthy, and signs a five year deal- he is worth a first round pick! He is the very best at his position. He is what you HOPE your draft pick may become. 15 mil is QB money- and that’s a concern
I’d get some kind of evaluation on him, before we sign anything. The press reports that the Bucs are the one team that is unconcerned about his knee injury. I think we should be

I got to agree with this. They have never been micro-managers, can’t see them starting now.

Dave. The league doesn’t require a physical. And apparently you haven’t read any of the post here- which all stated” the Bucs are the one team that seems unconcerned bout Revis’s knee injury, and are ready to deal”.
The Bucs aren’t stupid? Apparently you also had your eyes closed during the Charlie Garner, Derrick Ward, Jeremy Stevens, Aqib Talibum, THC Jackson, Michael Clayton, Brian Brice, Myron Lewis . . . .fiascos.
