“Expect” Michael Bennett To Sign With Dolphins
March 14th, 2013While Bucs fans are grinding their gears watching cornerback after cornerback fly off the market and, with the Bucs staring at a possible return of Eric Wright and Danny Gorrer as starting cornerbacks, those same fans may also be missing another potential Bucs starter slipping away.
There is no question a Michael Bennett return looked grim. He even said himself this week it was looking like a “20 percent” chance of him suiting up for the Bucs next season.
So it is not a shocker to see Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times throw out on Twitter that Bucs fans should “expect” Bennett to ink a pact with the Dolphins.
@NFLSTROUD: Expect DE Michael Bennett to become a Dolphin. The Bucs are committed to going with Bowers and Clayborn. Bennett wants paid as a starter
This does make sense. No team in the NFL is throwing money around like a drunken Monopoly player more than silly Stephen Ross and the Dolphins. Shoot, malcontent wide receiver Mike Wallace is getting $60 million over five years and one could make an argument he isn’t even a top-10 wide receiver.
So if any team is going to overpay Bennett and his agent, South Florida-based oily Drew Rosenhaus, it would be the Dolphins.
If the Dolphins don’t sign Bennett, Joe wouldn’t be shocked if he did re-sign with the Bucs, though Joe has no idea what the odds are. The market for defensive ends is greatly depressed and Bennett, to date, has not closed the door on a return to Tampa Bay.

I personally would love him back but to what price I’m not sure, it’s still possible he comes back tho as IMO we still do have the right to match, how much could the dolphins have left?

Bleacher report says we signed Kevin Ogletree – WR from Dallas
March 14th, 2013 at 5:16 pm
looks like were looking at Revis and the draft for CBs. Haven’t even resigned Biggers or Ronde and we’re going after receivers. pretty dumbfounded at this point.
March 14th, 2013 at 5:19 pm
Can Ogletree return kicks or punts? He could be a good slot guy. But I agree the 2 things we wanted to see was help at CB and D Line, and we have not seen or heard ANYTHING.. except the Revis may/well kind of/It might be….

If Bennett doesn’t sign with the AFC’s version of the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles, I expect him back with Tampa Bay on a one year deal so he can try his luck on the open market next season. The Bucs want Bowers to succeed, of course, but if Bennett leaves for Miami I hope the Bucs at least bring in a veteran player to add to the rotation.

@ Robbie – in his career.
20 Kick returns for 389 yards 0 TD 1 Fumble
3 Punt returns for 35 yards 0 TD 1 Fumble (His long was 25 yrds – that’s over 90% of his production.)

This signing could be prep for the Revis trade…we could possible throw Benn. This signing would make sense that way.

Do the Bucs get a trophy at the owner’s meetings if they end up with the most cap space at the end of free agency?
March 14th, 2013 at 5:41 pm
Pretty sure Leonard Johnson would start over Danny Gorrer, anyway we all knew this was going to happen, I hope somehow he comes back but not looking good.
March 14th, 2013 at 5:41 pm
whats going on out here?
makes me believe the revis deal is set in stone but the jets still want more compensation….
dom…. get out there and sign the second 2 cb already.
March 14th, 2013 at 5:47 pm
I thought we would get five players minimum in FA, at least for depth. Now we’re are looking paper thin on the defensive line, we have no corners and we also need O-lineman as well as a TE.
I’m not in a panic… But this is a bit disappointing. Really wanted to shore up the secondary in FA and I thought Goldson was just the start of it. Now if we’re lucky we’re looking at maybe the most expensive CB on the planet in Revis pairing with either Eric Wrong, or a 2nd tier rookie (don’t think the draft is that rich in CB talent) on opening day…
Really hope they pull something out here…
Go Bucs!!!!!

Apologies Joe, just getting a bit frustrated. 🙂 While JP may be right that the team may not be that impressed with the available CB’s out there, every one of those guys that have signed already would be an upgrade to what’s on the roster presently.

MBennett is good at times but gets stoned a lot too. He lacks consistency like Freeman. Sometimes you have to shake things up to improve. Hope is not lost yet, I could see JAbraham on a 1 yr deal for depth, and a first round DE pick.

I cant believe that everything has set up perfectly for us to sign Bennett on the cheap and we still are letting him test the market. No corners, I Gotta believe they have a plan but I just dont see it yet. Bennett has stayed out of trouble and busted his ass to get in the position he is today, if thats not a “Buccaneers Man” then I dont know what is.

@BigMacAttack
Oh wow, just what we need. Another 1st rounder spent on an unproven D-lineman.
March 14th, 2013 at 7:44 pm
Didnt bennett barely make the roster?? Most sacks on an average or below average D line big deal
March 14th, 2013 at 8:50 pm
D linemen are premium players. Why wouldn’t you draft one at 13? Is it better to reach for a CB that in most years would be a 2’nd rd player? Based on what I’ve seen, I would draft an OL or DL at 13.
College players aren’t proven until the NFL regardless of position.
