Roy Miller Wants To Stay In Tampa Bay
February 22nd, 2013Joe knows many Bucs fans aren’t enamoured with defensive tackle Roy Miller. He doesn’t rack up that many tackles and he doesn’t have a great quarterback-sack tally.
But if you talk to a Bucs coach or a Bucs suit, they rave about Miller nearly as much as Joe does Rachel Watson. Even Gerald McCoy has gone on record as saying he wouldn’t be the player he is without Miller taking on two blockers (or three) each play to help set GMC loose.
Miller, a free agent, has Twittered from time to time of late that he wants to stay with the Bucs. Part of that reason is he and GMC are best of friends.
(A Longhorn and a Sooner, pals?)
Last night Miller put out yet another Twitter message that he wants to be playing for the Bucs in 2013, and beyond.
@THE_ROY_V: Me and @Geraldini93 putting some hard work he never stops working in don’t tell him but I hope we r side by side next yr n pewter/red #bucs
Early this morning, Miller put out another Twitter post that, while he wants to stay with the Bucs, he is prepared to look elsewhere if not wanted.
@THE_ROY_V: Being said I’m not talking anymore about this contract stuff Mark & Coach all are great people I respect every and all decisions they will
Joe cannot imagine Miller leaving town. He’s not an expensive hire, and again, if the Bucs — suits and coaches — love him so much, why not bring him back? All Joe ever hears from Bucs people is that Miller “does exactly what we want him to do.” That’s high praise.
Joe’s pretty confident that Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik will chat with Miller’s agent while in Indianapolis and perhaps a move to sign him will happen in the coming weeks before the free agency bell rings March 12.

I like Roy. Add in another young DT to the rotation for 3rd down like Ezekiel Ansah since he can play DE and DT.

His second tweet makes it pretty obvious he wasn’t a literature major in college.

this is the same issue as with trueblood. He needs to be replaced. But it is not at our greatest need. he only plays on first and second downs. and even though we were good against the run ( with rushing the whole house on every play). We have been terrible at D-line since he got here.

Phrase of the article is “Even Gerald McCoy has gone on record as saying he wouldn’t be the player he is without Miller taking on two blockers (or three) each play to help set GMC loose.” I say this because on passing plays McCoy is the one getting doubled while Miller has one on one. Good for the run but below average on passing downs. I would keep him over Gibson, but I would be looking for someone to start in his spot that can play both run and pass well.
I hope the upper management want to win games versus being overly concerned about who’s friends with who. Everyone job is on the line and can be taking at anytime. It’s not like the players don’t have friends on many other teams and stay in contact with each other.
I believe McCoy can be much better when he get a better side kick at DT.

We are playing it SMART.
Bennett and Miller are both TRUE BUCS but they are both free agents.
So, we are letting them, get their OTHER OFFERS FIRST, then
management will decide whether or not to match their offers.
We are clearly interested in a D-lineman pick at #13 because D-lineman picks have the most VALUE!! DT or DE it doesn’t matter.
Let them both, Bennett and Miller test the market,
theeeennnnnn,
we make our move. It simple!

Oh I’m so worried about signing Miller. Give me a break. A fellow teammate sings praises. The Bucs management sings praises. I’m so tired of the yearly build up to the seasons where everyone says great things about this team and we still don’t get a team which finishes the season with a winning record. For the past 5 or more years the Bucs management has sold us a bad bill of goods. Now we are all excited about keeping a guy who is cheap, hasn’t made many sacks, or many tackles but the Bucs are high on him and so are his teammates. First, what idiot would throw their fellow teammate under the bus. Second, if you are having little success filling the stands and can’t get decent talent what are you going to do. You are going to build up the average players you have. Ok get your cheap average player but don’t sell him like he an absolute have to have player. Because he really is a back up who had a average year going into a contract year.

It would be crazy to get rid of him. You have to have a DT to take on those extra blockers to open up the rest of the line, and the guys on the blitz. How often in a 4-3 do you have 2 DTs getting lots of tackles and sacks??? Almost never…one gets all the credit. The other puts in all the work to allow, in this case GMC to get the props. We can def add another DT to our roster. But, Miller works his ass off and people talking about him not putting up numbers is crazy.
